Samsung RU7200: At First Glance

In 2019, Samsung released tons of 4K television with various sizes and numerous features. The Samsung RU7200, which is the focus of this review, is one of the numerous 4K television that Samsung released that year.

The Samsung RU7200 is a smart television that has a 50-inch 4K display and runs on the Tizen operating system. To give more details, this TV offers one of the best contrast ratios a television could possibly have.

Nevertheless, like any other smart television out there, the Samsung RU7200 comes with certain flaws. However, does it feature flaws that can easily be overlooked or the ones that would chase potential buyers away?

Why not continue reading to find an answer to that question?

Samsung RU7200: Design, Dimension, and Weight

When it comes to the design, the Samsung RU7200 offers a stylish design with a minimalist build. To start with, this television employs extremely-slim bezels that flank its 50-inch display.

As a matter of fact, these bezels are so slim that you might think the television is bezel-less. Besides that, the bezels are made of plastic and feature a sleek charcoal silver finish.

Also, the bottom bezel houses a distinctive white “SAMSUNG” inscription at the center.

Moving on, the Samsung RU7200 features a pair of V-shaped legs in case you don’t want to wall-mount it. These legs are of average thickness, and they come with a charcoal silver finish.

Due to their thickness, these legs give the television enough support to stand firmly and prevent it from wobbling. However, the legs are placed near the edges of the television.

Hence, if not mounted on the wall, you will be needing a fairly large table to place the Samsung RU7200 on. Having said that, let us move on to discuss the rear of this Samsung television.

Looking at the rear of the television, you will see a plain plastic panel with a smooth matte-black finish. This rear plastic panel features four 200 x 200 VESA holes for mounting the television on the wall.

Moreover, the rear panel isn’t bulky at all. Hence, the Samsung RU7200 shouldn’t stick out when mounted on the wall.

Unfortunately, you won’t find any form of a cable management system on the television’s rear panel. Thus, for a clean setup, cables attached to the television will be needed to be manually arranged.

For the dimension and weight, the Samsung RU7200 measures 1124.8 x 59.1 x 650.2 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 13898 g. Although not too heavy for a 50-inch television, this television weighs more than the TCL 50S425.

Specifically, the TCL 50S425 weighs 10477.9 g and measures 1120.1 x 81.28 x 652.7 mm (W x D x H).

All things considered, I will offer the Samsung RU7200 a rating of nine out of ten in this design review section.

Samsung RU7200: Display Features and Picture Quality

Now that we’ve known what the television looks like, we will now discuss its display features and performance in this section. To begin with, the Samsung RU7200 features a 50-inch LED display that offers a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution.

Due to this resolution, the display should be able to produce vivid, colorful, and sharp pictures. Besides, as some of us know, a 4K resolution display has about four times the amount of pixels that are found on a standard HD resolution display.

What this implies is that the Samsung RU7200’s display should be four times better, sharper, and clearer than any HD display. Impressively, apart from this 4K UHD resolution, this television’s display comes with an infinite contrast ratio.

Just so you know, infinite contrast ratios are mostly found on LG’s expensive OLED televisions, such as the LG OLED55B8PUA. Hence, for a regular LED television like the Samsung RU7200 to feature such a contrast ratio is quite outstanding.

Well, the impact of the infinite contrast ratio is that the display will be able to produce extremely deep blacks. As a result, the Samsung RU7200 is more than adequate for watching movies with tons of dark and shadowy scenes.

That’s not all; due to its display’s infinite contrast ratio, the television is also ideal for dark room viewing. For the record, contrast ratio is the ratio of luminance between a display’s brightest whites and darkest blacks.

You might start to think this television’s display is actually flawless. Sorry to disappoint, but the Samsung RU7200’s display offers poor viewing angles because it is made with a VA (Vertical Alignment) panel.

Hence, colors and images will lose accuracy when watching the television off-center or from the sides. As a result, the Samsung RU7200 might not be the best TV for a large room setting.

On a positive note, it might please you to know that this television’s display supports HDR (High Dynamic Range). Specifically, the display supports various HDR effects, which are HDR10, HDR 10+, and HLG (Hybrid-Log Gamma).

Hence, when watching HDR-supported content on the Samsung RU7200, pictures will be brighter, more realistic, more natural, and more colorful. In case you’re wondering, HDR-supported content is usually found on streaming apps such as YouTube and Netflix.

Regrettably, despite HDR, this television’s display isn’t bright enough, as it offers a maximum brightness of 300 nits. Hence, using the Samsung RU7200 in bright or sunny environments might not be the best thing to do.

This is because there will be screen glares across the surface of the display. However, with the help of the semi-gloss coating on the display’s surface, the density and effect of screen glares shouldn’t be too obvious.

Thereby making bright room usage less bothersome.

Sadly, the Samsung RU7200’s display offers an average response time of 19.2 milliseconds. Thus, there will be noticeable blur trails when the display is rendering fasting-moving content like racing sports.

Hence, the Samsung RU7200 might not be the best choice for watching movies with plenty of fast-moving scenes. For your information, response time is the total amount of time it takes a display to change from one color to another.

On a bright note, this television’s display offers a low input lag of 10.8 milliseconds. Briefly, input lag is the time it takes a display to register signal input from sources such as a wireless gamepad.

Furthermore, input lag is a vital feature of a television’s display – it determines whether or not the television is suitable for gaming. To be more specific, if the display has an input lag of 15 milliseconds or less, it means the television is good for gaming.

Apparently, with an input lag of 10.8 milliseconds, the Samsung RU7200 is very much ideal for gaming.

In conclusion, the Samsung RU7200 offers an impressive 4K display that features an infinite contrast ratio, low input lag, and supports HDR. However, the display disappoints in some major areas.

For instance, the display isn’t bright enough, and it offers poor viewing angles. Nonetheless, I will offer the Samsung RU7200 a rating of eight out of ten in this display features and picture quality review section.

Samsung RU7200: Sound Features

For the sound department, the Samsung RU7200 comes with a pair of 20-watt speakers. That’s a total sound output of 40 watts, which is considerably loud enough to fill a large room with sound.

Besides, the television’s speakers produce good audio quality and audible dialogue. In case you are wondering, dialogue is the conversation between two or more individuals in a film.

However, the Samsung RU7200 lacks a subwoofer, meaning its speakers alone won’t be able to produce an adequate amount of bass. Thus, bass-heavy movies or songs are a “no-no” for this television.

Nevertheless, if you really love bass-heavy movies, you should consider purchasing a soundbar alongside the television.

Looking on the bright side, the Samsung RU7200 features Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus. First of all, Dolby Digital is an audio technology that helps the speakers produce better sound output.

Practically, it does this by filtering noises and unwanted frequencies, making the speakers’ sound output be more appealing. Similarly, Dolby Digital Plus improves the surround sound and loudness of the television’s speakers.

Thereby enabling them to produce a cinematic audio quality.

Sadly, the Samsung RU7200 has poor distortion performance. This is evident through its 1.46% score on the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) test.

To be clear, the THD test is an audio test that tells you how much distortion a sound device can produce. Moreover, a score of 1% or less on this test ascertains that the sound device produces minimal distortion.

On the contrary, if the score is more than 1%, that implies that the sound device can generate a noticeable amount of distortion. Well, as seen above, the Samsung RU7200’s score on the THD test is more than 1%.

Thus, when the television is set to the maximum volume level, distortion will be significant and audible. However, if the television is at a moderate volume level, the distortion may reduce, and not everyone would be able to hear it.

Just so you’re aware, distortion in this context is the deformation of a sound device’s original audio frequencies. As a result, making the sound device delivers unwanted noises and disturbing sound quality.

To conclude this sound features review section, I will offer the Samsung RU7200 a rating of seven out of ten for its average performance.

Samsung RU7200: Ports and Connectivity Features

Although the Samsung RU7200 features a good port selection, all the ports are located in a compartment on its back panel. Hence, whenever the television is mounted on the wall, you might not be able to easily access the ports.

Now that you know the location of the ports, let me introduce them one after the other. To start with, the Samsung RU7200 features three HDMI ports, including one that supports ARC (Audio Return Channel).

Therefore, you should be able to easily connect a soundbar to the television using that particular HDMI-ARC port. Away from that, this Samsung television also comes with two USB ports, an RF port, and one digital optical audio out.

That’s not all; the Samsung RU7200 also features an Ethernet port and composite video input. Meanwhile, when it comes to wireless connectivity, this television offers Bluetooth as well as an in-built 802.11 ac WIFI.

As expected, the Samsung RU7200 comes with remote control – it features a TM1950A remote. Design-wise, this remote has a plastic chassis with a smooth glossy black finish.

Although it is quite lengthy, this remote offers a limited amount of buttons – it features a total amount of 13 buttons. Some of these buttons include a round-shaped navigation button, a volume rocker, and a channel rocker.

Also, the remote has three dedicated buttons for quick access to Netflix, Prime Video, and Rakuten TV. Impressively, the TM1950A remote control features an in-built microphone that allows for voice input via Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

Besides, you will find a “SAMSUNG” inscription at the bottom part of the remote, which serves as a means of brand identification.

In summary, the Samsung RU7200 comes with a good number of ports as well as a remote that supports voice input. Therefore, I will offer the Samsung RU7200 a rating of nine out of ten in this ports and connectivity review section.

Samsung RU7200: Smart Features

Like most Samsung smart televisions, the Samsung RU7200 uses the Tizen operating system. This OS comes with a user-friendly interface that Samsung refers to as the Smart Hub.

This Smart Hub interface features an easy-to-use horizontal navigation bar that runs along the bottom of the screen. This navigation bar contains some of the operating system’s pre-installed streaming apps.

These streaming apps include Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, HBO, and so on. Aside from that, the Tizen operating system comes with an in-built app store called the Samsung Store.

This app store gives you access to download other streaming applications apart from the pre-installed ones. However, the Smart Hub interface of this operating system contains pesky ads that can’t be disabled.

In conclusion, the Samsung RU7200 comes with an operating system that offers lots of pre-installed streaming apps and a built-in apps store. However, the performance of the operating system is distorted by pesky ads on its Smart Hub interface.

Therefore, I will offer the Samsung RU7200 a rating of eight out of ten in this smart features review section.
