Salesforce AI alternatives for teams concerned about usage costs include Zendesk, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Service with Copilot Studio, and HubSpot Service Hub—but none can be called cheaper from its list price alone. Salesforce can charge by AI usage, combine user fees with consumption, or tie pricing to business metrics; the alternatives use their own combinations of seats, automated resolutions, credits, and prerequisites. The fair comparison is the total cost of the same workload, including seats, included usage, overages, setup, and platform requirements.
Why is Salesforce AI pricing difficult to compare?
Salesforce does not have one universal AI billing unit. Its published models include consumption-based pricing, hybrid pricing that combines per-user licensing with consumption, and pricing based on business metrics. For AI usage, agentic work is measured by actions, while prompt-based embedded AI is measured by prompts. Recorded usage units may be converted to Flex Credits using the Agentforce Rate Card.
That distinction matters because an “action,” a “prompt,” a “conversation,” and a “credit” are not interchangeable measures. A price per seat does not tell you the cost of AI use, and a price per automated resolution does not tell you what the service platform seats cost. A comparison is meaningful only after you define what the system will do and which events each vendor will bill.

Salesforce’s usage documentation also distinguishes building from testing and previewing. Building in Agentforce Builder is not metered, but testing and validation in Builder, Grid, Testing Center, and Sandbox can be metered; previewing agents in chat or voice is metered. That can make development and pre-launch activity relevant to a budget even before customers use the agent. Check the Salesforce usage and billing documentation and confirm how the current contract treats the specific environments and activities your team plans to use.

What does Salesforce publish for Agentforce pricing?
Salesforce’s published US price points, accessed October 25, 2026, include Flex Credits, conversations, and per-user options. The figures are vendor-published snapshots subject to change and specific terms; Salesforce directs buyers to sales for detailed pricing.
| Salesforce option | Published price | What the figure covers |
|---|---|---|
| Flex Credits | US$500 per 100,000 credits | Consumption-priced credits; usage units may be converted according to the Agentforce Rate Card. |
| Conversations | US$2 per conversation | A separate published conversation price; do not assume it is the same billing basis as credits. |
| Agentforce add-on | US$125 per user/month | Specified employee-facing use cases. |
| Agentforce User License | US$5 per user/month | Requires Flex Credits, so the user fee alone is not a full usage estimate. |
Salesforce describes an action as a function an agent performs. It says each standard Agentforce action is 20 Flex Credits and each Agentforce Voice action is 30 Flex Credits. At the published Flex Credit price, those amounts work out arithmetically to US$0.10 per standard action and US$0.15 per Voice action, respectively, before any other charges or contractual terms. These derived figures are not a separate Salesforce list price and do not establish that an action performs the same work as a conversation or a successful resolution elsewhere.
What does Salesforce’s worked example mean?
Salesforce’s illustrative example assumes 100 users, each handling three cases per day for 20 days in a month, with three actions per case. It estimates 360,000 Flex Credits and US$1,800 per month under those assumptions. Salesforce explicitly says actual monthly usage may vary. Treat the amount as Salesforce’s example—not a forecast for your organization, a guaranteed bill, or a comparison with another vendor.
The example is useful as a sanity check on the arithmetic: the assumed workload produces 18,000 actions, and at 20 credits per standard action that equals 360,000 credits. It does not establish whether your cases need three actions, whether all of your actions fall into the standard category, or how other usage and contract terms affect your invoice.

Which alternatives have different AI cost structures?
Three relevant alternatives illustrate why “price per seat” is not enough: Zendesk combines service seats with successful automated resolutions, Microsoft combines service seats with Copilot Studio agent credits, and HubSpot combines service seats with HubSpot Credits. The prices below are US vendor-published figures accessed October 25, 2026. They are not normalized total-cost estimates, and a vendor’s page may show different billing selections, allowances, or eligibility conditions.
| Platform and published plan | Published price | AI usage or added cost structure |
|---|---|---|
| Zendesk Support Team, annual billing | US$19 per agent/month | AI agents are described as included in Support and Suite plans; billing is based on successful automated resolutions, with included allowances and additional-resolution rates varying by displayed tier. |
| Zendesk Suite Team, annual billing | US$55 per agent/month | AI agents are described as included; the displayed resolution tiers include US$1.50 for committed resolutions and US$2.00 pay-as-you-go. |
| Dynamics 365 Customer Service Professional, annual payment | US$50 per user/month | Copilot Studio agent use has separate pre-purchase and pay-as-you-go credit plans; an Azure subscription is required to use agents. |
| Dynamics 365 Customer Service Enterprise, annual payment | US$105 per user/month | Copilot Studio agent credits and the Azure subscription requirement remain part of the deployment estimate. |
| Dynamics 365 Customer Service Premium, annual payment | US$195 per user/month | Copilot Studio agent credits and the Azure subscription requirement remain part of the deployment estimate. |
| HubSpot Service Hub Starter | US$20/month per Core Seat | The page also shows a lower promotional or selected-billing figure; verify the selected billing period and seat definition. |
| HubSpot Service Hub Professional | US$100/month per Service Seat | Includes 3,000 HubSpot Credits per month; Customer Agent uses 50 credits per resolved conversation. Required one-time onboarding fee: US$1,500. |
| HubSpot Service Hub Enterprise | US$150/month per Service Seat | Includes 5,000 HubSpot Credits per month; Customer Agent uses 50 credits per resolved conversation. Required one-time onboarding fee: US$3,500. |
How to read the Zendesk figures
The published seat rate and resolution charge answer different questions. Seat cost depends on the plan, agent count, and billing basis. AI-agent charges depend on successful automated resolutions and the relevant tier’s included quantity and additional rate. Zendesk’s displayed examples include US$1.50 for committed resolutions and US$2.00 pay-as-you-go, but the exact included monthly allowance and rate must be checked for the selected tier and agent count. Do not apply either rate to every conversation: the stated meter is successful automated resolutions.
For a useful Zendesk estimate, record both the number of paid agents and the number of resolutions that meet Zendesk’s success definition. A conversation that is abandoned, handed to a human, or otherwise fails the resolution criterion may not be billed in the same way as a successful automated resolution; ask Zendesk to explain edge cases for your workflow. Also separate annual-billing seat prices from any monthly-billing selection shown on the page.
How to read the Microsoft figures
Dynamics 365 Customer Service’s per-user rate is a service-seat price, not an all-in price for agent use. Copilot Studio offers pre-purchase and pay-as-you-go credit plans, and Microsoft states that an Azure subscription is required to use agents. A team already using the relevant Microsoft services may have a different incremental cost profile from a team that must add prerequisites; the published seat rates alone do not establish either team’s total.
Ask Microsoft whether your proposed agent uses pre-purchased credits, pay-as-you-go credits, or both, and whether existing Azure commitments can be applied. Keep the Customer Service edition, the number of named users, Copilot Studio credits, Azure charges, and implementation work on separate lines. Otherwise a low service-seat figure can hide a required cloud component.

How to read the HubSpot figures
HubSpot’s Service Hub tiers combine a seat price with a monthly credit allowance on Professional and Enterprise. At 50 credits per resolved conversation, the stated allowances correspond arithmetically to 60 resolutions for Professional and 100 for Enterprise if all those credits are used for Customer Agent resolutions. That arithmetic does not account for other credit-consuming activity, overage terms, or the team’s actual mix of use. The one-time onboarding fees are also separate from monthly seat prices and should be included in a first-year estimate.
Starter is quoted per Core Seat, whereas Professional and Enterprise are quoted per Service Seat. Do not multiply the Starter rate by the same seat count without confirming that the users receive equivalent functionality. For Professional, add US$1,500 once for required onboarding; for Enterprise, add US$3,500. Show those fees separately from recurring seats so a first-year total is not mistaken for a steady-state monthly run rate.
How can you compare total cost fairly?
Build one workload and apply it to every vendor’s meter. Before calculating, define both the human service operation and the AI work; vendors may count different events, so using only “number of conversations” or “number of users” can understate the differences.
- Count users by seat type. Record the number of agents, service users, employee-facing users, and any other people who need paid access. Keep seat definitions explicit: an agent, a user, a Core Seat, a Service Seat, and an employee-facing license may not cover equivalent access.
- Describe the workload. Estimate cases or customer conversations by month, successful automated resolutions, and expected human-handled volume. Identify the channels in use and whether voice is included; voice actions are assigned a different Flex Credit amount in Salesforce’s published description.
- Estimate AI activity per unit of work. For Salesforce, estimate actions per case or conversation and prompts where embedded AI is used. For a resolution-metered platform, estimate successful automated resolutions rather than all inbound contacts. For a credit-metered platform, confirm which tasks consume credits and how those credits are calculated.
- Include non-customer and launch activity. Estimate development, preview, testing, and validation. Salesforce documents that some tests and previews can be metered even though building in Agentforce Builder is not. Ask each vendor how its own test and staging activity is treated instead of assuming that all evaluation is free.
- Subtract only confirmed included usage. Record the relevant allowance, its reset period, and the tier or seat count that qualifies. Do not treat an advertised allowance as universal across plans or assume unused capacity rolls over unless the applicable terms say so.
- Add overages and credit purchases. Apply the rate or purchase block that matches the actual plan, billing commitment, and expected volume. For credits, compare the amount bought with the vendor’s stated consumption rules; for resolution pricing, distinguish committed from pay-as-you-go rates.
- Add platform and one-time requirements. Include service seats, required subscriptions such as Azure for Microsoft agents, and required onboarding charges such as HubSpot’s listed Professional and Enterprise fees. Include implementation or integration costs only when you have an actual quote or a defensible internal estimate.
- Calculate low, expected, and peak months. Use the same three workload cases for each vendor. A typical month helps budgeting, while a peak month exposes the effect of usage pricing and the risk of exceeding allowances.
- Confirm controls and commercial terms. Ask for usage visibility, alerts, caps, test-activity treatment, committed-volume terms, and peak-month handling. Availability of operational controls should be confirmed with the vendor before it is assumed in a budget.
A comparison worksheet
| Cost line | What to enter for each vendor |
|---|---|
| Recurring seats | Seat count by type multiplied by the applicable recurring rate and billing period. |
| Included AI usage | Allowance amount, qualifying plan, reset period, and which use it covers. |
| Usage above allowance | Expected actions, prompts, credits, conversations, or resolutions beyond the included amount, priced at the applicable rate. |
| Prerequisites | Required platform or cloud subscriptions and any other paid components needed to use the agent. |
| One-time charges | Required onboarding and any quoted implementation or integration work. |
| Scenario totals | Monthly low, expected, and peak totals; show one-time charges separately and also in the first-year view. |
Do not add quantities measured in unlike units into one “AI volume” number. Keep the event counts distinct, then price each one according to the vendor’s published meter. The official pages reviewed do not provide a normalized total-cost comparison for one shared workload, so a credible winner cannot be named without scenario inputs and vendor-confirmed terms.
Illustrative modeling without declaring a winner
Suppose a team has 100 paid service users, 6,000 monthly customer cases, and a peak month that is 30% higher. The team should enter its own expected automation rate and actions per case rather than borrowing a competitor’s definition. In Salesforce’s published example, 100 users and 18,000 standard actions produce 360,000 Flex Credits and US$1,800 in the stated month. For Zendesk, the same worksheet would require the number of successful automated resolutions and the selected committed or pay-as-you-go rate, plus the applicable seat plan. For HubSpot, it would require the number of resolved conversations consuming 50 credits each and whether Professional’s 3,000-credit allowance is sufficient. For Microsoft, it would require the Copilot Studio credit plan and Azure component. The point is to expose missing inputs, not to turn unlike meters into a single unsupported ranking.

Common budgeting pitfalls
- Comparing a seat price with a usage price. A US$55 Zendesk Suite Team seat, a US$105 Dynamics Enterprise seat, and a US$100 HubSpot Professional Service Seat are platform access prices with different AI allowances and prerequisites.
- Counting every contact as a billable AI event. Zendesk’s stated meter is successful automated resolutions, while Salesforce can count actions or conversations and HubSpot counts credits per resolved conversation.
- Ignoring voice and prompts. Salesforce assigns 30 Flex Credits to a Voice action versus 20 for a standard action, and embedded prompt activity is a separate consideration.
- Treating testing as free. Salesforce says testing, validation, and previews can be metered even though building in Agentforce Builder is not.
- Leaving setup out of the first year. HubSpot lists US$1,500 onboarding for Professional and US$3,500 for Enterprise; Microsoft requires Azure for agents.
- Assuming public pricing is a contract. Geography, billing selection, negotiated discounts, eligibility, taxes, and minimum commitments can change the quote.
- Using only an average month. A peak month can exhaust a credit allowance or move usage from a committed rate to pay-as-you-go pricing.
When might each platform structure fit?
A seat-plus-resolution model can be easier to explain when management tracks successful automation as the primary outcome, but you still need the plan’s included allowance and overage terms. A seat-plus-credit model can offer a pool for several AI capabilities, but the team must understand which actions consume credits and whether credits are shared across features. A seat-plus-action model can provide granular attribution, yet detailed action and prompt estimates become important for forecasting. These are budgeting characteristics, not claims that one platform is less expensive.
Teams with existing Salesforce, Microsoft, Zendesk, or HubSpot commitments should also model incremental cost rather than the full list price in isolation. An existing service seat, Azure subscription, or CRM deployment may already cover part of the platform requirement, while a new implementation may need migration, integration, training, and change-management work. Use written quotes for those items; do not infer them from an AI rate card.
What should a team ask before signing?
Ask for the quote and usage definitions in writing, not just a headline rate. The purpose is to ensure the estimate maps to your configuration, expected traffic, and deployment stage.
- Which edition, market, billing period, and seat definition does the quote assume?
- Which exact events trigger consumption charges, and how are partial, failed, retried, or escalated interactions treated?
- What is included in the allowance, when does it reset, and what happens when the team exceeds it?
- Are development, preview, sandbox, testing, and validation activities metered?
- Which channels and voice capabilities are included, and do they use a different meter?
- Are there mandatory platform subscriptions, onboarding charges, or minimum commitments outside the AI line item?
- What usage reports and notifications are available, and can the organization set a cap or approval step? Confirm actual availability rather than assuming these controls exist.
- Does the vendor’s quote use the same low, expected, and peak workload assumptions as the other bids?
- Can the vendor provide a sample invoice or usage report showing how an action, resolution, conversation, or credit appears after deployment?
- What happens to service continuity if a credit pool or committed resolution allowance is exhausted?
Published prices are useful for building an initial estimate, but they do not establish negotiated enterprise rates, eligibility by market, implementation costs, or a customer-specific bill. Recheck current prices, currency, billing basis, included quantities, and contract terms before making a procurement decision.

Can I assume a Salesforce conversation costs the same as a HubSpot resolved conversation?
No. Salesforce publishes a conversation price, while HubSpot states that Customer Agent consumes credits per resolved conversation; the labels do not establish identical definitions, included work, or behavior when a conversation is escalated. Ask each vendor to map its billable event to your intended workflow.
Will the quote match the public price page?
Not necessarily. The listed figures are public-page snapshots, and the Salesforce page directs buyers to sales for detailed pricing; a quote can reflect specific terms and configuration. Compare written quotes built from the same assumptions rather than treating a public rate as a contract.
Is Salesforce’s US$1,800 example a normal monthly Agentforce bill?
No. It is an illustrative Salesforce scenario using 100 users, three cases per day, 20 days per month, and three actions per case. Your action mix, voice use, prompts, tests, contract, and traffic can produce a different amount.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat is the biggest difference between Zendesk and Salesforce metering?
The published descriptions use different events. Zendesk describes billing based on successful automated resolutions, while Salesforce can measure agent actions, prompts, conversations, or converted Flex Credits. You need a workflow-level mapping before comparing rates.
Does HubSpot’s 3,000-credit allowance mean 3,000 resolved conversations?
No. HubSpot states that Customer Agent uses 50 credits per resolved conversation, so 3,000 credits would equal 60 such resolutions only if every credit were used for that activity and no other credit-consuming use applied.
What extra Microsoft cost is easy to miss?
Microsoft states that an Azure subscription is required to use Copilot Studio agents. Add that prerequisite and the applicable pre-purchase or pay-as-you-go agent credits to the Dynamics 365 Customer Service seat price.
Should testing and previews be included in the budget?
Yes. Salesforce says testing and validation in Builder, Grid, Testing Center, and Sandbox can be metered, and previews in chat or voice are metered. Ask every vendor how staging and test activity is counted.
