Our verdict on Wave
Wave combines invoicing with bookkeeping for small-business owners, including freelancers and contractors. It supports creating and sending invoices and estimates, tracking customers and payments, accepting online payments, and maintaining bookkeeping records. Recurring invoices, payment reminders, expense tracking, receipt capture, and mobile invoice creation extend it beyond basic billing. Its scope suits independent operators who want invoicing and financial records together; businesses looking for a dedicated client portal or time tracking should compare alternatives.
The free Starter plan includes unlimited estimates, invoices, bills, and bookkeeping records, plus mobile invoicing and a cash-flow and customer dashboard. Online payments are available as an option. Pro costs $19 per month, adding discounted online payment rates, automatic bank transaction import, transaction merging and categorization, unlimited receipt capture and expense tracking, and automated late-payment reminders. An annual Pro option is listed at $190 per year. Online payments carry transaction fees, so the effective cost depends partly on payment use. For occasional invoicing and basic recordkeeping, Starter covers a broad set of needs; Pro is aimed at users who want more automation around reconciliation and expenses.
Wave is available on the web, iOS, and Android, with mobile invoice creation and sending among its features. The integration listing names Plaid, making the documented third-party ecosystem relatively narrow. Bank import and categorization are central Pro additions, while recurring billing, financial reports, and customer and payment tracking support ongoing bookkeeping. This combination is a fit for freelancers prioritizing cost and invoice-to-bookkeeping workflows over a wider integration network. Consider another option if time tracking, a client portal, or broader documented integrations are important to your process.
