About this tool
Enter the amount borrowed, the annual interest rate and the term to get the fixed monthly payment (often called EMI), the total interest you will pay over the life of the loan, and the total amount repaid.
The schedule below shows how each payment splits between interest and principal and how the balance falls — year by year by default, or every single payment. Early payments are mostly interest; the principal share grows over time.
The calculation is the standard amortising-loan formula used by banks for mortgages, car loans and personal loans with a fixed rate. Real offers may add fees, insurance or different compounding rules, so treat the result as an estimate and check the lender's own figures. Amounts are shown without a currency so the calculator works for any currency.
