Our verdict on The RealReal
The RealReal brings a luxury resale marketplace to Android, for shoppers looking for pre-owned designer goods and people who want to consign them. Its catalog spans clothing, shoes, handbags, watches, fine jewelry, accessories, collectibles, and home décor. The company says in-house specialists authenticate items before sale. The app is free, with buying, order tracking, saved-item alerts, and restock notifications alongside consignment options.
The app’s shopping tools center on finding and following specific items. Shoppers can save favorites in Obsessions and receive a notification when a saved item goes on sale. Wait List notifications flag when sold-out items return to stock. My Purchases provides order status and shipment tracking, while checkout is available in the app and the marketplace offers international shipping. These features suit buyers who are willing to browse a specialist catalog and want alerts for particular listings, rather than a broad general-purpose shopping app.
Consignment adds a seller path: items can be submitted by appointment or shipped to The RealReal, whose team photographs, authenticates, prices, and sells them. That can suit people who prefer the marketplace to handle listing work, but sellers need to arrange a handoff or shipment rather than list items directly themselves. The main trade-off for shoppers is the narrow luxury-resale focus, and the app is listed for Android. Choose it if authenticated designer resale and managed consignment match your needs; look elsewhere for wider everyday merchandise or another mobile platform.
