Our verdict on SignageOS

SignageOS provides infrastructure for digital signage networks rather than a standalone content management system. Its components cover CloudControl device management, DevSpace tools for cross-platform HTML5 application development, REST and JavaScript APIs, and ProPlayer for SMIL-based playback. The platform is aimed at CMS providers, ISVs, managed service providers, OEM vendors, and organizations operating networks across varied hardware and operating systems.

Pricing is charged per device per month, with a minimum of 25 devices per plan. Basic costs $3 per device monthly and includes health monitoring, basic device control, device logs, and on-demand screenshots. Pro costs $6 and adds device policies, APK management, firmware upgrades, a 5-minute remote desktop session, alerting, and bulk provisioning. Ultra costs $9 and adds concurrent remote desktop sessions, more frequent telemetry, 365 days of telemetry retention, a 15-minute screenshot time machine, 90 days of screenshot history, and extra REST API calls. A 30-day trial is available.

Its main strength is breadth across the signage ecosystem: supported environments include Android, ChromeOS, Linux, Windows, Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, BrightSign, Raspberry Pi, Sony, Philips, Sharp, and Hisense. The platform also supports offline caching and playback, content such as video, images, streams, video inputs, HTML5 widgets, HTML5 websites, and web widgets, plus automated provisioning and deployment. Choose SignageOS when device operations, hardware coverage, APIs, and diagnostics matter more than a narrowly focused publishing tool. Organizations needing fewer than 25 devices should look closely at the minimum plan requirement before choosing it.
