Our verdict on Passwordstate
Passwordstate is an enterprise password management and privileged access management platform from Click Studios. It is designed for IT teams that need to store privileged credentials in an encrypted vault, control access with roles and granular permissions, and maintain detailed audit records. Organizations can deploy it on-premises, in air-gapped environments, or in their own private cloud. Browser extensions, native iOS and Android applications, and an API extend access beyond the main web interface.
The licensing model combines free access with perpetual paid licenses. The Named User License costs $73.60 per user as a one-time charge and includes one production installation. The Named User License with Maintenance costs $88.32 per user one time and includes Annual Support and Upgrade Protection in the comparison price. Enterprise License plans provide one production installation for unlimited users, while Global License plans provide unlimited production installations and unlimited users. Maintenance versions are available for both license types. Annual Support and Upgrade Protection is a separate annual service and is required for ongoing support and some modules.
Passwordstate’s strongest fit is credential administration in environments with established identity, infrastructure, and audit requirements. It supports Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, SAML 2.0 providers, LDAP, Syslog/SIEM, and connections for RDP, SSH, Telnet, VNC, TeamViewer, and Microsoft SQL Server. Its feature depth includes password rotation, discovery, resets, event monitoring, compliance reporting, and remote-session launching for RDP, SSH, Telnet, VNC, SQL, and TeamViewer. Optional modules add high availability, self-service Active Directory password resets, and remote-site management. Teams seeking privileged access controls and self-hosted deployment should consider it; organizations wanting a broader general-purpose password manager may prefer a platform with wider coverage.
