Our verdict on Proton Pass

Proton Pass is an end-to-end encrypted password manager for individuals, families, and organizations. It stores logins, passwords, notes, credit cards, identities, and email aliases, while autofilling credentials across supported browsers and devices. Its feature set includes password generation, passkey storage and authentication, password health alerts, secure item and vault sharing, an integrated two-factor authenticator, and dark web monitoring. The free plan is a strong fit for individuals who want broad device coverage without a monthly charge.

The Proton Free plan includes unlimited logins, notes, and credit cards, unlimited devices, browser, mobile, and desktop apps, a password generator, 10 hide-my-email aliases, and passkey support. Pass Plus adds unlimited aliases, the integrated authenticator, secure vault and link sharing, dark web monitoring, file attachments, and Emergency Access. Pass Family includes up to six users, six Pass Plus accounts, a family admin panel, and shared vaults. For organizations, Pass Essentials requires at least three users and adds business administration, sharing, passkeys, and password health checks; Pass Professional adds SSO, SCIM, activity logs, enterprise policies, SIEM integration, and group sharing. Business plans include a 14-day trial.

Platform coverage is a notable strength: Proton Pass supports web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and browser extensions. The combination of passkeys, passwordless authentication, email alias generation, secure sharing, and open-source development gives it a broad scope rather than a narrow password-storage focus. Families should choose Pass Family when shared vaults and household administration matter. Organizations needing SSO, SCIM, policies, or SIEM integration should consider Pass Professional, while users seeking only basic credential storage can stay with Proton Free. Users who need advanced features without moving beyond the free tier should choose a simpler free-only option instead.
