SHA Hash Generator

A cryptographic hash turns any input into a fixed-length fingerprint: change one character and the hash changes completely. Hashes are used to verify downloads, compare files, build cache keys and sign API requests. Type or paste text and all four SHA digests update as you go, in lowercase or uppercase hex.

Text is hashed as UTF-8, the encoding almost every system uses, so results match sha256sum, OpenSSL and most programming languages for the same text. Note that "é" typed as one character and "e" plus a combining accent are different bytes and give different hashes.

Hashing uses your browser's built-in Web Crypto API; nothing is sent to a server. MD5 is not offered because browsers do not provide it and it is no longer considered safe for security use. For storing passwords use a dedicated password-hashing scheme (bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2), not a plain SHA hash.
