Our verdict on 1Password

1Password is a password manager for individuals, families, teams, and enterprises. It stores passwords, passkeys, payment details, secure notes, documents, and other sensitive information in encrypted vaults. Password generation, autofill, cross-device synchronization, two-factor authentication code storage, secure sharing with expiring links, and Watchtower compromised-credential alerts cover the main needs of personal and organizational password management. Its platform coverage includes web, macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, and Safari.

Pricing is structured around personal, family, and business use. The Individual plan costs $3.99 per user per month with annual billing and includes password generation, credential autofill, secure sharing, and Watchtower alerts. Families costs $5.99 per month with annual billing and supports up to 5 family members, unlimited shared vaults, and family access controls. For teams, Teams Starter Pack costs $24.95 per month with annual billing and includes 10 members, role-based permissions, security alerts, and developer tools. Business costs $8.99 per user per month with annual billing and adds identity-provider integrations, expanded vault permissions, administration and reporting, and developer tools. A 14-day free trial is available.

The strongest reason to choose 1Password is breadth without separating core credential storage from newer passwordless workflows and controlled sharing. Passkey storage and sign-in sit alongside traditional passwords, while expiring links provide a defined way to share items securely. Organizations can move from shared vaults to role-based permissions and administrative reporting as their needs grow. The tradeoff is the lack of a free plan and the emphasis on paid annual subscriptions. Individuals wanting a full suite, families managing shared access, and teams needing administration should find the plan structure relevant; people seeking ongoing free password management should choose an alternative.
