Our verdict on LuxMark

LuxMark is an open-source PC benchmark based on LuxCoreRender and the LuxCore API. It is designed for comparing rendering performance across OpenCL GPU, CPU, hybrid GPU+CPU, native CPU, CUDA, and OptiX/RTX workloads. Benchmark scenes include Food, HallBench, and Wallpaper, while the published workload coverage also includes path tracing and stress testing. It suits individuals, small teams, mid-market organizations, and enterprises that need a desktop tool for rendering-focused hardware comparisons across Windows, macOS, and Linux.

The software is free and open source, so its value is centered on accessible benchmarking rather than paid plan differences. Its scope spans several rendering paths: brute-force path tracing, global-illumination-cache path tracing, and bidirectional path tracing with a Metropolis sampler. Users can select devices and configure custom modes, while command-line single-run execution supports repeatable workflows. Rendered-image and scene-source validation add a way to check benchmark outputs, and a denoised preview uses Intel OpenImageDenoise. Official binaries and source code are available for Windows and Linux, while the wider LuxCoreRender project supports Windows, macOS, and Linux.

LuxMark is strongest when the comparison depends on rendering behavior, especially across different device types or rendering implementations. Hardware stress-test modes broaden its role beyond a single score, and the range of workloads makes it useful for examining GPU, CPU, and hybrid configurations. It is less suitable for buyers seeking a general PC benchmark covering unrelated components or everyday application performance. Choose it for free, rendering-specific comparisons with configurable and command-line options; choose another category of tool when the evaluation needs broader system coverage.
