Our verdict on Labvanced
Labvanced is a web-based platform for designing and running psychology, behavioral, and user research studies. It is aimed at researchers, laboratories, universities, and research teams that need both remote and in-lab workflows. The platform supports webcam-based eye tracking with calibration and fixation detection, as well as compatible hardware tracking. Researchers can record gaze and fixation timeseries, define Areas of Interest for stimuli and website elements, collect questionnaires and physiological signals, and create configurable experiments without coding.
The published plans show a freemium structure with five tiers. Free includes unlimited experiment and task creation, questionnaires, mouse activity, reaction times, and keyboard inputs, with a seven-day trial also available. Researcher Basic adds audio and video stimuli, code editing and execution, and gamepad support. Researcher Standard adds audio, video, and screen recordings, camera and phone snapshots, and multilingual studies. Researcher Premium adds webcam eye tracking, AI-ChatGPT integration, AI audio transcriptions, longitudinal studies, and canvas drawings. Researcher Ultimate adds video conferencing, multi-user studies, heart-rate measurements, participant management, and desktop and phone apps. The free offering suits smaller studies, while more specialized collection and collaboration features require higher tiers.
Labvanced’s strongest fit is its combination of remote browser research and hardware-supported laboratory work. Participants can join through webcams, while website studies can be embedded using the Labvanced Web Bridge Chrome extension. Data can be exported in CSV or TSV format, with JSON experiment specifications and REST, WebSocket, and webhook APIs available for connected workflows. Gaze visualizations include heatmaps, gaze coordinates, fixations, dwell time, time to first fixation, fixation duration, and number of fixations.
