Our verdict on IONOS Email
IONOS Email provides hosted email for individuals and businesses that need custom-domain addresses, browser webmail, and access through standard mail clients. Mail Basic includes spam filtering, IMAP and POP3 support, email migration tools, and calendar and task import. The service also offers an optional AI Email Assistant for Webmail. It fits small businesses and individuals who want conventional email hosting with a large attachment allowance and support for familiar clients such as Apple Mail, the Gmail app, Microsoft Outlook, and Mozilla Thunderbird.
The pricing structure is straightforward. Mail Basic 1 costs $2 per month for one email account, a 2 GB mailbox, spam filtering, and a custom domain. Mail Basic 25 costs $4 per month and includes 25 email accounts, with 2 GB per mailbox plus the same core protections and domain support. Mail Business costs $6 per user per month and expands storage to 50 GB per user, adding premium virus protection and spam filtering, team collaboration tools, and synchronized data across devices. There is no free plan, so the choice is between low-cost basic hosting and a higher-storage business tier.
IONOS Email’s practical strength is its compatibility with existing workflows. Users can access mail in a browser or connect supported third-party clients, while the migration tool handles messages and folders from other providers or between IONOS accounts. Mail Basic also supports a 70 MB attachment limit, which is useful for routine business exchanges. The main trade-off is the 2 GB mailbox size on both Mail Basic plans, while mobile access depends on third-party clients rather than a dedicated native email app. Choose IONOS Email for affordable custom-domain hosting and standard client access; choose another option if entry-level storage or a native mobile experience is the priority.
