Our verdict on Evernote
Evernote is a note-taking and organization application for individuals and teams. It combines note creation, notebooks and spaces, task management, calendar-linked notes, web clipping, document scanning, annotation, and shared workspaces. Users can access notes through web, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and a Chrome extension. Its scope suits people who want personal reference material, tasks, schedules, and captured documents in one workspace, as well as teams that need shared notebooks and real-time editing.
The published plans show a freemium structure with four tiers. Free includes 50 notes, 1 notebook, 1 GB of storage, and sync across 1 device. Starter raises the allowances to up to 1,000 notes, 20 notebooks, 5 GB of storage, and sync across up to 3 devices. Advanced adds unlimited notes, notebooks, attachments, storage, and synced devices, along with AI Meeting Notes. Enterprise adds custom pricing, centralized account administration, single sign-on, and a dedicated customer success manager. A 7-day free trial is also available. The plan structure makes the main trade-off clear: heavier personal or business use requires moving beyond the restricted Free tier.
Evernote’s ecosystem fit is a notable strength. Integrations include Google Calendar, Google Drive, Gmail, Microsoft Outlook Email, Microsoft Outlook Calendar, and Slack. Calendar integration supports event-linked notes, while the Web Clipper, scanning, offline access, and search tools cover several common capture and retrieval workflows. AI capabilities include transcription, editing, and meeting notes. Shared notebooks and real-time editing support collaboration, although the product’s breadth may be more than needed for someone seeking only a lightweight writing pad. Choose Evernote for a feature-rich workspace spanning notes, tasks, schedules, documents, and collaboration; choose an alternative if a narrow, simpler note-taking workflow is the priority.
