Our verdict on Box
Box is a cloud content management and storage platform for individuals, teams, and enterprises. It combines cloud file organization with sharing, shared links, collaboration, version history, restore options, desktop access through Box Drive, and mobile access. Support spans web, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and API access. Businesses can also use Box Sign for electronic signatures, workflow automation, third-party integrations, and Box AI for content questions, generation, extraction, and agents.
The plan structure ranges from the free Individual plan to enterprise-focused options. Individual includes 10 GB of storage, a 250 MB upload limit, one file version, and five Box Sign signature requests per month. Personal Pro increases storage to 100 GB, uploads to 5 GB, file versions to 10, and signature requests to 15 per month. Business Starter provides 100 GB, a 2 GB upload limit, 25 file versions, and requires at least three users. Business and higher plans add unlimited storage, with upload limits of 5 GB, 15 GB, and 50 GB across Business, Business Plus, and Enterprise. Business adds Box AI capabilities and 1,500+ integrations; Business Plus adds advanced admin controls, while Enterprise adds advanced workflows and advanced security and compliance.
Platform and ecosystem fit are major strengths. Box connects with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Salesforce, Adobe Express, and DocuSign, while Box Drive and mobile apps support desktop and offline access. Administrative features include SSO, MFA, device controls, permissions, and audit logs. Official product information also documents AES encryption at rest and in transit and customer-managed key options. Box suits organizations that want storage connected to collaboration, signatures, automation, and administration. Individuals seeking higher upload limits or extensive version history may prefer a paid personal tier, while smaller teams should consider the Business Starter minimum and the plan level needed for advanced controls.
