Our verdict on ApsaraDB for Cassandra
ApsaraDB for Cassandra is Alibaba Cloud’s managed Apache Cassandra service for teams running high-concurrency, low-latency workloads. It supports multi-node clusters, data replicas, multiple data centers, cloud disks, and internal or public network endpoints. The documented use cases include logs, messages, feeds, orders, websites, analytics, and write-intensive applications. Its regional coverage includes locations in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the UK, Germany, and the United States, making it particularly relevant to teams deploying Cassandra across Asian regions.
Pricing is split between compute nodes and cloud-disk storage. The Chinese mainland subscription plan for a node with 2 CPU cores and 4 GB RAM starts at $36.06 per node per month. The comparable Chinese mainland pay-as-you-go compute plan is listed at $0.075 per node per hour. Ultra disk storage in China (Hangzhou) is listed at $0.055 per GB per month for subscription billing. Cloud disks can also use Standard SSD or Enhanced SSD, and compute and storage can be scaled separately. This structure gives teams distinct resource categories to plan for, but it also makes the total cost less straightforward than a single bundled database price.
The strongest fit is an Alibaba Cloud environment that needs Cassandra replicas, multiple data centers, disaster-recovery options, and both private and public connectivity. Java and Python Cassandra SDK access examples support application integration, while the scenarios documentation describes clusters supporting hundreds of nodes. However, the official documentation labels ApsaraDB for Cassandra as deprecated, and the pricing documentation is also marked deprecated. Teams seeking an actively marketed Cassandra service, broader verified platform coverage, or a current purchase path should consider an alternative instead.
