Our verdict on ScyllaDB X Cloud
ScyllaDB X Cloud is a fully managed database-as-a-service offering for data-intensive applications that need low latency, high throughput, and Cassandra-compatible access. It runs on AWS and Google Cloud, supports CQL and Cassandra-compatible drivers, and can be provisioned through a web application or API. The service fits teams moving Cassandra workloads to managed infrastructure while retaining familiar access patterns and adding vector and text search.
The three plans separate core managed operations from higher-control deployment options. Standard includes AWS and GCP hosting, automatic scaling within a selected instance family, SOC 2 and ISO certifications, and a 99.9% uptime SLA. Professional adds Bring Your Own Account deployment, multi-region active-active high availability, disaster recovery, advanced metrics and logging, and 24x7 P1 support response. Premium adds Private Link, advanced networking, flexible region switching, Bring Your Own Encryption Key, and the same 24x7 P1 support response. A 30-day developer trial and a separate 48-hour production evaluation provide time to assess the service before committing.
Operational coverage is a central strength. X Cloud provides daily automated backups with 14-day retention, restores, managed upgrades, monitoring, and repairs. It supports multi-region and multi-datacenter deployment, VPC peering, private networking options, Terraform, and Cloud API automation. Storage can reach up to 90% utilization, while automatic cluster scaling adjusts capacity within the selected instance family. Choose it when multi-cloud deployment, Cassandra compatibility, search capabilities, and managed operations matter together. Consider another option if a free plan or simpler, lower-tier access to private networking is a priority.
