There is no single best predictive maintenance platform for every manufacturer. The right alternative depends on the assets and failure modes you need to cover, whether your existing sensor and plant data are usable, how findings will become maintenance work, and how much implementation and ongoing service your team can support.
Shortlist products by operating model—not just by vendor ranking. The market includes industrial AI analytics, asset-performance software connected to maintenance execution, packaged machine-health services, and configurable industrial IoT platforms. Then test the candidates against representative assets and actual failure records before committing.
What counts as predictive maintenance software?
Predictive maintenance software uses equipment and operating data to identify signs of developing problems and help teams decide when to intervene. Products may analyze time-series sensor data, events, control logs, inspections, or other industrial information. The label covers overlapping product types rather than one standardized package.

Verdantix defines industrial AI analytics software as programs that can ingest operational technology (OT) and other industrial data and use learned patterns or reasoning for tasks including anomaly identification and asset-failure prediction. That definition describes a broad analytics category; it does not establish which assets, signals, failure modes, or maintenance workflows a particular product supports.
#1 Best Overall
- INDUSTRIAL VIBRATION METER – VM-424 WITH REMOTE SENSOR PROBE - Designed for vibration measurement on motors, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, fans and rotating machinery where direct placement of a handheld meter is difficult. The external sensor allows technicians to reach narrow measurement points while keeping the main unit at a safe and comfortable viewing position.
- 3-IN-1 VIBRATION MEASUREMENT – ACCELERATION VELOCITY DISPLACEMENT - Measures Acceleration 0.1–199.9 m/s² (peak), Velocity 0.1–199.9 mm/s (RMS) and Displacement 0.001–1.999 mm (p-p), enabling technicians to evaluate key vibration parameters used in machine condition monitoring and preventive maintenance inspections.
- DUAL FREQUENCY ACCELERATION MODES – 10HZ–1KHZ AND 1KHZ–3KHZ - Low frequency mode supports general machine vibration evaluation such as imbalance or structural vibration, while high frequency mode helps observe higher-frequency vibration components during mechanical diagnostics.
- REMOTE PIEZOELECTRIC SENSOR – STABLE CONTACT MEASUREMENT - External shear-type accelerometer connected by cable allows precise probe positioning on bearing housings, pump casings and motor frames while the display remains easy to read during measurement.
- INTERCHANGEABLE PROBE TIPS – MAGNETIC, SHORT AND LONG CONTACT - Includes magnetic base tip for hands-free contact on metal surfaces as well as short and long probe tips for measurements on flat surfaces, narrow housings and recessed machine components.
For a manufacturer, the useful distinction is how the product gets from data to a maintenance outcome. A system may analyze existing plant data, add sensors and diagnostics as a package, connect asset-health insights to an enterprise asset management (EAM) workflow, or provide a configurable industrial IoT platform. These approaches can overlap, so verify what is included in a proposed deployment instead of relying on the category name.
Which alternatives should manufacturers put on a shortlist?
Use analyst coverage and product comparisons to identify candidates, not as universal rankings. A 2025 Verdantix assessment examined 19 industrial AI analytics providers using live briefings, buyer interviews, and a 105-point questionnaire; it named nine Leaders under its methodology. A separate 2026 comparison included the products below, but described its entries as documented fit assessments rather than hands-on performance rankings.
Providers named as Leaders by Verdantix in 2025
| Provider | What the analyst result tells you |
|---|---|
| ABB | Named a Leader in Verdantix’s industrial AI analytics software assessment. |
| Augury | Named a Leader in Verdantix’s industrial AI analytics software assessment. |
| AVEVA | Named a Leader in Verdantix’s industrial AI analytics software assessment. |
| C3 AI | Named a Leader in Verdantix’s industrial AI analytics software assessment. |
| Cognite | Named a Leader in Verdantix’s industrial AI analytics software assessment. |
| GE Vernova | Named a Leader in Verdantix’s industrial AI analytics software assessment. |
| IBM | Named a Leader in Verdantix’s industrial AI analytics software assessment. |
| Seeq | Named a Leader in Verdantix’s industrial AI analytics software assessment. |
| SymphonyAI | Named a Leader in Verdantix’s industrial AI analytics software assessment. |
The Leader designation is the report’s result for a defined category and methodology. It is not evidence that a provider fits every plant, nor does it establish equivalent performance on your equipment.

How do the main approaches differ?
The practical differences are the data and equipment each approach depends on, who operates the diagnostics, and how recommendations reach maintainers. The category is a useful starting point, but it is not a substitute for a scoped design.
Industrial AI analytics
These products are intended to work with industrial data and identify anomalies or predict asset failures using patterns or other forms of analysis. Confirm which data sources the proposed solution can ingest, what preparation is required, how it handles gaps, and whether it covers the failure modes relevant to your assets. An analytics label alone does not establish those details.
Asset-performance software tied to maintenance execution
This approach can bring asset health, reliability engineering, predictive analytics, and maintenance decision support together with work execution. IBM describes Maximo APM in these terms. This connection can matter when a plant wants a finding to move into an existing maintenance process, but confirm the actual modules and integrations in the proposed configuration.

Packaged sensors, diagnostics, software, and services
A packaged machine-health model may include new instrumentation and expert diagnostic support as well as software. A vendor-authored guide describes Augury’s approach this way and contrasts it with software-only condition monitoring that can use existing data infrastructure. Because that description comes from a vendor, treat it as a lead to validate—not an independent comparison. Ask what hardware, services, and responsibilities the package adds.

Configurable industrial IoT platforms
A configurable platform may suit organizations that want to connect industrial data and build or adapt use cases. The trade-off to examine is how much design, integration, model work, and ongoing operation falls to the manufacturer or its implementation partner. The available comparison does not establish those details for each named product; get them in writing for the proposed scope.
How should a manufacturer compare alternatives?
Score each candidate against the same assets, failure history, data conditions, and maintenance path. A comparison is useful only if it exposes exclusions and operating burden—not just the number of assets or alerts a vendor says it can handle.
| Evaluation area | Questions to answer | Evidence to request |
|---|---|---|
| Asset and failure-mode coverage | Can it detect the degradation mechanisms that matter for the assets in scope? Which assets or failure modes are excluded? | A written coverage map for the representative asset list, including explicit exclusions. |
| Data eligibility | Can it use current sensors, historian data, controls, inspections, and work history, or does it require new instrumentation or preparation? | Data-source requirements, minimum data conditions, and the handling of missing or poor-quality data. |
| Alert usefulness | Does a finding identify a credible failure mode, affected component, severity, and next action? | Example diagnostic evidence and the information a planner can review before approving work. |
| Workflow completion | Can a validated finding become an assigned, tracked, and closed task in the system technicians already use? | A demonstration of the actual handoff and the records retained through completion. |
| Deployment burden | What hardware, tagging, integration, model training, and vendor service are needed before useful output appears? | A deployment plan with owner, dependencies, timing, and continuing responsibilities for each workstream. |
| Evidence and governance | Can the team trace a recommendation to source data, its decision, the maintenance action, and the observed outcome? | A sample audit trail and an explanation of how models or diagnostic rules are maintained. |
How do you run a useful pilot?
Start with a narrow, representative scope and test the entire path from signal to recorded outcome. Do not use raw alert volume as the success measure: an alert matters only if the team can validate it, act appropriately, and learn from what happened.

Choose equipment that reflects the intended deployment and has a usable recent failure and maintenance history. Include the asset types and operating conditions that matter to the plant’s decision; do not let the vendor define the scope solely around the easiest available data.
- Provide the same evidence to each candidate. Share the representative asset list, relevant failure history, data-source description, and the work-order path the plant expects to use. Ask vendors to identify excluded assets and failure modes before they propose success criteria.
- Confirm data eligibility and gaps. Establish which existing sensors, historian records, controls, inspections, and work history can be used. Ask what happens when data is missing, inconsistent, or insufficient and whether the proposal requires new instrumentation or preparation.
- Define what a useful finding must contain. Agree how the team will assess whether an alert points to a credible failure mode, identifies an affected component, gives an understandable level of urgency, and supports a next action. Require the evidence a planner needs before approving work.
- Exercise the real maintenance workflow. Trace a validated finding into an assigned task, through completion, and into a recorded outcome using the plant’s actual process. Note manual handoffs, duplicate entry, integration dependencies, and any step that requires vendor involvement.
- Track outcomes, not alert counts. Record validated signals, interventions completed, and observed outcomes. Include cases where a finding was rejected or no action was taken so the team can assess usefulness rather than reward volume.
- Review the operating model and commercial scope. Confirm who will manage integrations, maintain models or diagnostics, handle service requests, and own data and workflow governance. Compare the complete commitments—not just the software line item—before deciding whether the pilot is scalable.
What results and costs can you realistically compare?
There is no established apples-to-apples performance or pricing comparison across the alternatives listed here. Analyst placement, product descriptions, and vendor statistics do not establish the outcome a specific manufacturer will achieve.

IBM’s undated Maximo APM product page, accessed in 2026, publishes claims of a 47% reduction in unplanned downtime, a 17% extension in asset life, and 6.3% lower maintenance costs. These are vendor claims, not independently verified expectations for an individual plant. Compare any claimed improvement with your own baseline, pilot scope, and recorded results.
Request a scoped proposal that separates software and licensed modules from sensors or other hardware, implementation, integrations, and ongoing diagnostic services. Ask for service levels, model-maintenance responsibilities, and renewal terms to be stated separately as well. The reviewed materials do not establish comparable current prices across vendors, so an unqualified starting price would not make a sound shortlist comparison.
What should a manufacturer decide before selecting a platform?
Choose the approach that fits the plant’s assets, data, and ability to operate the program—not the longest feature list. Before signing, make sure the decision record answers these questions:
- Which specific assets and failure modes are in scope, and which are excluded?
- Can the system use the plant’s present data, or are sensors, data preparation, or other prerequisites required?
- What evidence will a planner see before turning a finding into work?
- How does a finding enter the maintenance system, and how will completion and outcomes be recorded?
- Who owns integration, diagnostics or model maintenance, and ongoing service?
- How will the plant judge the pilot using validated signals, completed interventions, and recorded outcomes?
- Does the proposal state modules, hardware, implementation, service levels, and renewal terms separately?
Manufacturers that perform manual condition spot checks may also consider a handheld industrial vibration meter during a pilot or alongside continuous monitoring. A meter can support spot checks; it does not replace continuous sensor coverage, predictive analytics, or maintenance-workflow integration. No particular model or current retail availability is established here.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does predictive maintenance software replace preventive maintenance?
It should be evaluated as a way to add condition- and data-informed decisions, not as proof that scheduled inspections or other required maintenance can be dropped. Keep existing maintenance obligations in place unless your reliability and safety processes formally approve a change.
Can a predictive maintenance platform work without new sensors?
Sometimes the proposed approach can use existing plant data, while packaged machine-health approaches may add instrumentation. Ask the vendor to map your current signals to each target failure mode and identify gaps before assuming either that new sensors are necessary or that existing data is sufficient.
Can a handheld vibration meter predict failures on its own?
A handheld meter provides a spot measurement, not the continuous coverage, analytics, and maintenance workflow of a predictive-maintenance program. It may be useful for manual checks, but it cannot stand in for those broader capabilities.
