The Pixel 8 Pro is the bigger phone and lists a dedicated 5× optical telephoto camera; the iPhone 16 is more compact and runs iOS. Neither is an automatic winner: choose based on screen size, camera reach, and the software ecosystem you prefer. A fair price difference cannot be established from the available listings because the Pixel figure is for a refurbished US model, while a matching iPhone 16 price was not established.

Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Pixel 8 Pro for a larger screen and dedicated telephoto reach
At 6.7 inches, the Pixel 8 Pro has the larger display, and its listed camera system includes a dedicated 5× optical telephoto camera. Those specifications make it the more natural fit if you want more screen space or frequently frame distant subjects.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteChoose the iPhone 16 for a more compact size and iOS
The 6.1-inch iPhone 16 is the smaller option. It may suit you better if you prefer a compact phone, already use Apple services or devices, or want to stay with iOS. Apple also lists safety and satellite features; availability varies by country and feature.

Do not treat chip names or camera specifications as a complete verdict
The phones use different processor families, Tensor G3 and A18, but the available specifications provide no comparable benchmark results. Likewise, a 5× optical telephoto specification describes camera hardware, not which phone takes better photographs overall. A real-world winner would require independent, comparable testing.
How much is the price difference?
A like-for-like price difference is not established. On October 7, 2026, the Google Store’s US listing showed a $649 price for a certified refurbished, unlocked 128GB Pixel 8 Pro and an original retail price of $999. That is a dated refurbished listing, not a current new-phone price. The available information did not establish a comparable iPhone 16 price.

To compare prices fairly, check both phones in the same country, at the same storage capacity and condition—new against new or refurbished against refurbished—and account for seller protections. Prices and stock can change. The Google Store refurbished Pixel listing describes its device as quality-tested, restored with authentic Google Pixel parts, unlocked, and covered by the same one-year warranty as a new device; confirm the live listing’s terms before buying.
What do the battery figures mean?
Google lists a 5,050mAh battery and “24+ hour battery life” for the Pixel 8 Pro. Apple lists up to 22 hours of video playback and up to 18 hours of streamed video playback for iPhone 16. These are different measures and manufacturer claims, so they do not establish which phone lasts longer in comparable everyday use.

What is established about software updates?
Apple’s Ireland product information sheet for EU model A3287 states a minimum of five years of guaranteed availability of operating-system security, corrective, and functionality updates. That is a regional statement for a specific model, not evidence of a global promise. The cited Google comparison page does not establish a Pixel 8 Pro update end date, so these sources do not support a direct update-duration comparison. See Apple’s Ireland iPhone 16 product information and Google’s Pixel comparison page.
