All the Mods is one of the biggest names in modded Minecraft: a kitchen-sink pack with hundreds of mods, long quest lines and a real endgame. That size is the appeal, and also the reason ATM servers fall over when they run on too little hardware. This guide covers what each version actually needs, and how to pick a host that can carry it.

Short answer: the ATM team’s own guide asks for at least 4 GB of RAM allocated for most of its packs, and suggests starting higher on a host. In practice a small group is comfortable on 8 to 12 GB, and hosts that publish per-pack figures, such as Godlike.Host, suggest 12 GB for ATM10 and ATM11. A fast CPU matters as much as memory: ATM runs mostly on one main thread, so clock speed decides how smooth the server feels.

ATM11 is the newest pack. It moved to Minecraft’s new year-based version numbers (26.1.2), and Minecraft 26.1 was the first release to require Java 25, so an ATM11 server needs Java 25 rather than the Java 21 that ATM10 uses. The ATM team’s own Java guide does not list 26.x yet, so double-check the readme in the ATM11 server files when you install.

Why All the Mods needs so much

ATM9 alone ships with more than 400 mods, plus quests and a built-in endgame: crafting the ATM Star, or taking on the Gregstar. Every one of those mods adds blocks, machines and world generation the server has to track. The heaviest load comes from what players build. Big automation setups, mob farms and chunk loaders keep large parts of the world running at all times, so a server that felt fine in week one can struggle by week four.

That is why the ATM team calls 4 GB a starting point, not a target. Plan for where the world will be in a month, not on day one.

How much RAM do you need?

  • Two to four friends, early game: 8 GB runs any of the three packs while bases are small.
  • A steady group of five to ten, with automation: 10 to 12 GB. This is where the 12 GB host recommendations for ATM10 and ATM11 come from.
  • A public or very active server: start at 12 GB, watch the server’s tick rate, and add memory as farms and factories grow.

More memory is not always faster. Past the point the world actually uses, extra RAM can make Java’s garbage collection pauses longer. Raise memory when the server runs out of it, and look at the CPU when the tick rate drops but memory has room to spare.

CPU: the part most people underestimate

Minecraft does most of its work on a single main thread, so a modded server’s smoothness depends on single-core speed far more than on core count. An ATM world with busy factories on a slow processor will lag even with plenty of RAM. When you compare hosts, look for high-clock modern CPUs. Godlike.Host, for example, advertises modded Minecraft hosting with “Extreme Performance 5.0GHz+”.

Fast NVMe storage helps too. ATM worlds grow large, and the server constantly saves chunks and reads them back as players explore.

Java version and arguments

The ATM Java guide maps Minecraft versions to Java releases: Java 17 for Minecraft 1.18 and later, and Java 21 for 1.21 and later. That means Java 17 for ATM9 and Java 21 for ATM10. If several Java versions are installed, the server uses whichever java runs by default, which is a common cause of start-up crashes.

The same guide lists tuned Java arguments that cut memory use and smooth out lag spikes. If you host the server yourself, start with those rather than writing your own.

Option 1: one-click ATM on a host

The simplest route is a host that installs ATM for you. Godlike.Host’s All the Mods servers install ATM9, ATM10 or ATM11 with one click, and its ATM10 and ATM11 pages list the suggested RAM, Minecraft version and loader before you order. Godlike saves up to three backups a day at no cost, accepts a custom server pack if you change the mod list, and runs servers in 10 locations across North America, Europe and Singapore.

Whichever host you choose, check these before you pay. Our ranking of modded Minecraft server hosting compares more providers on the same points.

  • Enough RAM on the plan you buy: at least the pack’s recommendation, with room to grow.
  • A fast CPU: high clock speed beats core count for Minecraft.
  • Automatic backups: ATM worlds take weeks to build, and a bad update or crash can corrupt them.
  • Easy version changes: ATM updates often, and you want to move to a new pack version without a reinstall.

Option 2: run the official server files yourself

The ATM team publishes ready-made server files for every pack version. Its guide sets them up like this:

  1. Open the pack’s CurseForge page, go to Files, and pick the version you and your friends will play.
  2. Download the Server Files from the Additional Files section, then extract Server-Files.zip into its own folder. If you use a third-party antivirus, exclude that folder, because files can be removed or damaged during extraction.
  3. Install the right Java version for the pack.
  4. Point the start script at that Java if you have more than one installed. Edit the startserver file and replace java with the full path to the right version, or set the system variable the script names (for example ATM10_Java). On Linux, sudo update-alternatives --config java switches the default.
  5. Run the startserver script. It installs the loader and starts the server.

After that, open TCP port 25565 on your router if friends connect from outside your network, and share your public IP address.

Keeping an ATM server running smoothly

Most ATM packs come with two profilers already installed, and the ATM team recommends them for tracking down lag:

Farms are the usual culprit. Most ATM packs also include Crash Utilities with its Item Clear feature switched off. Turning it on in world/serverconfigs/crashutilities-server.toml, by setting enabled to true, clears dropped items when they pile up past a threshold, which keeps entity counts down on automation-heavy servers.

Two more habits pay off. Pre-generate the area around spawn before launch day, so the server is not generating terrain while players explore. Then schedule a daily restart and an automatic backup at a quiet hour.

Backups and updates on a long-running ATM world

ATM worlds take weeks to build, so treat backups as part of the setup, not an afterthought. Every ATM pack includes the SimpleBackups mod on both the client and the server, but the ATM team notes that it is switched off in the server version. Either turn it on, or use your host’s built-in backups. Once enabled, it writes a zip of the world every two hours by default to the simplebackups folder, and you can change the interval in its config file, simplebackups-common.toml.

When you restore, the ATM guide’s advice also applies to config files: keep copies of only the configs you changed. Copying a whole config folder from a different pack version can break the install.

Updates need the same care. ATM packs update often, and every player must match the server’s version:

  1. Take a full backup before every update.
  2. Read the pack’s changelog for anything that changes worlds or removes mods. Removed mods can delete the blocks they added.
  3. Update the server and tell players to update at the same time.
  4. Run /spark tps after the update to confirm the server still keeps up.

FAQ

Can ATM10 run on 6 GB of RAM?

It can start, and the ATM team’s guide treats 4 GB as the minimum for most of its packs. For a group that builds automation, 6 GB fills up quickly. Plan for 8 to 12 GB, which is why hosts that publish per-pack figures recommend 12 GB for ATM10.

Which Java version does All the Mods need?

Java 17 for ATM9, which runs on Minecraft 1.20.1, Java 21 for ATM10 on 1.21.1, and Java 25 for ATM11, because Minecraft 26.1 and later require it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is ATM10 or ATM11 better for a new server?

ATM10 is the mature choice, with a long update history on Minecraft 1.21.1. ATM11 is newer, on Minecraft 26.1.2, and is still changing quickly. Pick ATM11 if your group wants the latest version of the game, and expect more frequent updates.

Do players need the same pack version as the server?

Yes. Every player must run the same ATM version as the server, or they will not be able to join. Update the server and the players together.

How do I find out what is lagging my ATM server?

Run /spark tps to confirm the tick rate is low, then /spark profiler --timeout 180 as an operator to see exactly which blocks, entities or mods are responsible.
