Short answer: The Samsung Galaxy A56 5G is the safer long-term choice because Samsung publishes a much clearer operating-system and security-update commitment. The OnePlus N6x is the more battery-focused design, while the published specifications do not establish a definitive speed winner. Treat OnePlus performance figures as company testing, not as an independent head-to-head benchmark.

OnePlus N6x vs Galaxy A56 at a glance

The two phones emphasize different buying priorities. OnePlus highlights battery capacity, a high-refresh display and a tested smoothness target. Samsung emphasizes water and dust resistance, faster wired charging and a defined support policy. The table separates published hardware from claims that cannot be treated as a controlled comparison.

Category OnePlus N6x Samsung Galaxy A56 5G What the evidence means
Chipset MediaTek Dimensity 6360 Apex Samsung Exynos 1580 Published specifications; no independent, controlled head-to-head benchmark is established here.
Battery rating 7,000mAh equivalent 5,000mAh The N6x has the larger stated capacity; actual endurance depends on brightness, signal, apps and software.
Display 6.8-inch, 120Hz 6.7-inch display Only the N6x refresh rate is specified in the published materials.
Ingress protection IP64 IP67 Galaxy A56 has the higher published IP rating. Ratings describe test conditions, not immunity to every type of damage.
Wired charging Not stated in the published N6x materials 45W Do not infer OnePlus charging speed from battery capacity.
OnePlus smoothness statement “48-Month Smooth Experience” on 4GB+128GB; “36-Month Smooth Experience” on 4GB+64GB Not stated in Samsung’s published product information OnePlus says the figures come from its Test Lab fluency testing and do not guarantee absolutely no lag.
Announced software policy No equivalent number of Android-version upgrades or six-year security term stated in OnePlus’s published N6x materials Up to six generations of OS upgrades and up to six years of security updates Samsung leads on the documented policy-duration axis.

Which phone is faster?

There is no defensible answer that declares one handset universally faster from the published information alone. The Dimensity 6360 Apex and Exynos 1580 are different platforms, and the published material does not provide a lab-controlled comparison using the same software, temperatures, memory configuration and test procedure.

What the chipset specifications tell you

The N6x uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 6360 Apex, while the Galaxy A56 5G uses Samsung’s Exynos 1580. A chipset name identifies the platform, but it does not by itself predict every real-world result. Camera processing, storage speed, memory management, display resolution, thermal limits and the manufacturer’s software can all change how a phone feels.

For everyday tasks such as messaging, web browsing, maps and video playback, both phones should be judged by responsiveness in the exact configuration sold in your market. An N6x listing with 4GB of RAM may behave differently from a Galaxy A56 configuration with a different memory allocation, but the published specifications do not establish a like-for-like RAM comparison.

How to interpret OnePlus performance numbers

OnePlus reports an AnTuTu result of more than 608,900 and claims 10% faster gaming and a 50% GPU performance gain in its own segment comparison. Those figures are OnePlus Test Lab and launch claims. They are not an independent N6x-versus-A56 result, so they should not be used to conclude that the N6x beats the Galaxy A56 in every game or benchmark.

AnTuTu scores can vary with firmware, temperature, battery level, performance mode and test version. A score quoted by a manufacturer is useful as a reference for its own testing conditions, but a buyer who needs a strict speed ranking should look for tests run on both phones under the same conditions.

Sustained performance and heat

Long gaming sessions are governed by sustained performance rather than a short peak score. Heat buildup can cause a phone to reduce clock speeds, and the result depends on chassis design, cooling hardware, ambient temperature and game settings. The published N6x material does not provide a thermal comparison with the A56, so neither phone can be promised as the cooler or faster sustained performer on this evidence.

The N6x’s 120Hz panel can make scrolling and supported games appear smoother when the software raises the refresh rate. That visual smoothness is separate from processing speed: a 120Hz screen does not guarantee higher frame rates, and a game may cap its frame rate or lower resolution to maintain stability.

OnePlus N6x smoothness claims: what they cover

OnePlus markets two different “Smooth Experience” periods according to storage configuration:

N6x configuration OnePlus statement Important qualification
4GB+128GB “48-Month Smooth Experience” Exclusive to this variant; based on OnePlus Test Lab fluency testing.
4GB+64GB “36-Month Smooth Experience” Shorter stated period; also based on OnePlus Test Lab fluency testing.

OnePlus explicitly says the test result does not guarantee absolutely no lag. The statement is therefore best read as a tested fluency target under OnePlus’s methodology, not as a promise that every app will remain lag-free for four years. Storage capacity also affects how many large apps, photos and videos you can keep before managing space becomes part of ownership.

Battery life: the N6x has the hardware advantage

The OnePlus N6x lists a 7,000mAh equivalent battery, compared with 5,000mAh for the Galaxy A56 5G. Capacity is the clearest hardware advantage in this comparison, although it does not translate into a fixed number of hours for every user.

OnePlus says the N6x can provide “up to 2.5 days of battery life on a single charge.” That is a maximum claim from OnePlus’s 2026 product materials and should not be treated as a guaranteed result for continuous gaming, high-brightness outdoor use or weak-signal conditions. A larger cell generally gives the N6x more reserve for heavy days, but screen settings, mobile-network reception, camera use and background synchronization remain decisive.

What the Galaxy A56 gives up in capacity

The A56’s 5,000mAh battery is smaller on paper. The published material does not provide a directly comparable “days” claim for Samsung, so it would be misleading to assign one. Its smaller capacity may matter most to people who spend long periods away from a charger; moderate users may care more about charging speed, device weight and software efficiency than the raw number.

Charging differences

Samsung lists 45W charging for the Galaxy A56 5G. A charging speed for the N6x is not stated in the published official information, so the N6x cannot be credited with a charging advantage or disadvantage from the published information. Check the charger included in your regional box and the phone’s local specification before purchase; charger availability and in-box accessories can vary by market.

Display, durability and physical trade-offs

Screen size and refresh rate

The N6x has a 6.8-inch 120Hz display, while the Galaxy A56 has a 6.7-inch display in the published specifications. The difference in diagonal size is small, but the N6x’s stated 120Hz refresh rate is relevant if you value fast scrolling or games that support higher refresh rates. Samsung’s published A56 information does not state its refresh rate, resolution or peak brightness, so those attributes should be confirmed on the regional Samsung specification page before treating the screens as equivalent.

Ingress protection

The N6x is rated IP64 and the A56 IP67. IP ratings are laboratory classifications: the first digit concerns solids and dust, while the second concerns water resistance under specified conditions. IP67 is the higher water-resistance rating of these two listings. Neither rating makes a phone indestructible, and liquid damage can still be excluded from warranty coverage depending on the seller and region.

Which phone gets more Android updates?

Samsung wins on the documented support commitment. Samsung states that the Galaxy A56 5G supports up to six generations of operating-system upgrades and up to six years of security updates. “Up to” matters: it describes the maximum published entitlement, while actual availability can depend on the model, country, carrier and rollout schedule.

OnePlus’s published N6x materials do not state an equivalent number of Android-version upgrades or a six-year security term. That absence does not prove that the N6x will receive no further updates; it means the same duration is not documented in OnePlus’s published materials. Buyers who plan to keep a phone for several years have a clearer planning horizon with the A56.

Policy duration versus actual delivery

Update support has two separate questions:

  • Policy duration: how many operating-system generations and security years the manufacturer says the model can receive. Samsung has the stronger published commitment here.
  • Observed delivery: whether updates are currently being released for your exact model and region, and how quickly they arrive after release. Both phones show 2026 update activity in the 2026 update records.

A long policy is valuable only if updates reach the phone you own. Regional firmware, carrier approval and model-code differences can change timing, so a rollout seen in one country should not be treated as a worldwide release date.

What the 2026 update records show

Phone Update record Date or patch level How to read it
OnePlus N6x OxygenOS 16.0.9.442 Published with the August 2026 Android security patch Shows active maintenance at that point; it does not establish a total support lifespan.
OnePlus N6x OxygenOS 16.0.9.452 Published in September 2026 Confirms another 2026 build; the published record does not identify a separate security-patch level for this build.
Galaxy A56 5G Android 16 build A566BXXSECZI2 Released September 22, 2026, with the September 5, 2026 security patch Shows Android 16 availability for the listed build and region record.

These records demonstrate current activity, not a race that can be generalized to every owner. Check the software-update screen on your own phone and compare the model code before concluding that an update is late or unavailable.

How to check an update on either phone

  1. Connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network and charge the phone above the level requested by the updater.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. On the OnePlus N6x, open the system-update section and select Check for updates. The exact menu wording can vary with OxygenOS version and region.
  4. On the Galaxy A56 5G, open Software update and choose Download and install. Samsung may stage the release, so an update listed for another country may not appear immediately.
  5. Record the model number, build number, Android version and security-patch date shown after installation. Those details are more useful than the phone name alone when contacting support.

Which phone should you choose?

Choose the OnePlus N6x if battery reserve is your priority

  • You want the larger stated battery and value OnePlus’s claim of up to 2.5 days under its stated testing conditions.
  • You prefer a 6.8-inch 120Hz display for scrolling and compatible games.
  • You are comfortable treating the 48-month or 36-month smoothness language as a test-based fluency claim rather than a no-lag guarantee.
  • You do not require a publicly stated six-year security-update term when making your purchase decision.

Choose the Galaxy A56 5G if long-term support is the priority

  • You expect to keep the phone for multiple Android generations and want Samsung’s published maximum of six OS-upgrade generations.
  • You want the documented maximum of six years of security updates.
  • You value IP67 over the N6x’s IP64 rating.
  • You want a stated 45W wired-charging specification and can accept the smaller 5,000mAh battery.

For gaming and demanding apps

Do not buy solely on the N6x’s 608,900-plus AnTuTu claim or its percentage comparisons. Ask whether the games you play support the display refresh rate, whether the retailer sells the 4GB+128GB or 4GB+64GB configuration, and whether independent testing covers sustained performance at the settings you intend to use. The published evidence cannot establish a universal winner between the Dimensity 6360 Apex and Exynos 1580.

Purchase and ownership checks

  • Confirm the exact model code: regional variants can receive updates on different schedules.
  • Confirm the memory and storage configuration: the N6x smoothness statement differs between 4GB+128GB and 4GB+64GB.
  • Check the local charger arrangement: the A56 specification lists 45W, but in-box charger contents can differ by market.
  • Read the seller’s water-resistance terms: IP testing does not cover every accident or every form of liquid exposure.
  • Plan for storage: the 64GB N6x variant leaves less room for games, media and offline maps than the 128GB variant.
  • Verify update availability after setup: install the latest offered firmware before judging performance or battery life, because launch software can change behavior.

Verdict

The Galaxy A56 5G is the better choice for a buyer who values predictable long-term software support: Samsung explicitly promises up to six generations of OS upgrades and up to six years of security updates, and the 2026 record shows an Android 16 build with a September security patch. The OnePlus N6x is more compelling for battery-focused buyers, with a 7,000mAh-equivalent cell, a 120Hz display and OnePlus’s configuration-specific smoothness claims. On speed, the responsible conclusion remains “not proven either way” without a controlled comparison of the Dimensity 6360 Apex and Exynos 1580.
