Nvidia and Broadcom each fell about 1% in premarket trading on October 13, 2026, extending chipmakers’ losses from the prior session. That snapshot does not establish that Broadcom or Microsoft caused Nvidia’s decline. The more useful explanation is a broader shift in the AI-chip landscape: NVIDIA is reporting exceptional accelerator demand, Broadcom is growing its custom AI-chip and networking business, and Microsoft is expanding the cloud infrastructure that depends on chips. Separately, the Associated Press reported investor unease about China’s CXMT challenging established memory-chip suppliers.

What happened to Nvidia stock on October 13?

The Associated Press reported that Nvidia and Broadcom each dipped around 1% in premarket trading on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, after chipmakers had also fallen the day before. The figure refers to premarket trading, not the regular-session close. The report also cited investor concern that China’s CXMT could challenge Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron in memory chips. That concern is sector context; it is not proof that memory competition caused every chip stock’s move.

The available reporting does not identify Broadcom or Microsoft as the cause of Nvidia’s decline. Their recent results help explain why investors are reassessing competition and investment across AI infrastructure, but they do not establish a day-specific catalyst.

How Nvidia, Broadcom, and Microsoft fit into the AI-chip market

These companies occupy different positions in the AI supply chain, so their reported figures are not interchangeable measures of the same business. NVIDIA sells accelerator and AI-computing platforms; Broadcom reports growth in custom AI semiconductors and networking; Microsoft operates cloud services and invests in the infrastructure that supports AI workloads.

Company and role Reported result Forward-looking figure What it indicates
NVIDIA: accelerators and AI-computing platforms Fiscal Q2 2027 revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year; Data Center revenue of $89.0 billion, up 117%. Quarter ended July 26, 2026. Fiscal Q3 2027 revenue outlook of $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%; it assumes no Data Center compute revenue from China. Strong reported AI-computing sales and an optimistic near-term company outlook, not a guarantee of future performance.
Broadcom: custom AI semiconductors and networking Fiscal Q3 2026 revenue of $29.6 billion; AI semiconductor revenue of $16.7 billion, up 221% year over year. Quarter ended August 2, 2026. Fiscal Q4 2026 forecast of $21.7 billion in AI semiconductor revenue and approximately $34.8 billion in total revenue. Rapid growth in Broadcom’s AI-related business, including custom accelerators and networking.
Microsoft: cloud services and infrastructure investment Fiscal Q4 2026 revenue of $90.0 billion; Microsoft Cloud revenue of $59.3 billion; Azure and other cloud services revenue grew 43% year over year. Quarter ended June 30, 2026. No specific chip-purchase figure is established in the cited results. Cloud demand and infrastructure spending make Microsoft relevant to chip-sector expectations, but Azure growth does not identify a particular chip supplier or purchase.

The NVIDIA and Broadcom outlooks are forecasts for different fiscal quarters, while Microsoft’s figures are results for its fiscal fourth quarter. They should not be treated as same-period sales comparisons.

Why Broadcom’s growth matters to Nvidia investors

Broadcom’s results show that AI infrastructure demand is creating growth beyond the market for general-purpose accelerators. Its fiscal Q3 AI semiconductor revenue reached $16.7 billion, and the company forecast $21.7 billion for fiscal Q4. Broadcom’s CEO, Hock Tan, said in the September 2, 2026 earnings release: “Demand for our custom AI accelerators and networking continues to be very strong.” That is management’s description of demand, not independent confirmation of future sales.

Custom accelerators can serve workloads designed around a particular cloud or customer environment, while networking connects computing systems. This broadens the set of businesses investors may consider when evaluating AI infrastructure. Broadcom’s growth can therefore sharpen questions about how value and spending are distributed across the AI supply chain. The cited figures do not show that Broadcom displaced NVIDIA or caused NVIDIA shares to fall on October 13.

Why Microsoft matters to chip stocks

Microsoft’s relevance is as a major cloud operator and infrastructure investor, not as evidence of a named chip purchase. For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, Microsoft reported $90.0 billion in total revenue and $59.3 billion in Microsoft Cloud revenue; Azure and other cloud services revenue grew 43% year over year. The company also describes continued investment in cloud and AI, while noting that expected returns depend on customer demand, technology, and competition.

Cloud growth can inform investor expectations for the computing capacity providers may need to build. But Microsoft’s reported Azure growth neither specifies which chips it bought nor links its spending to the October 13 trading move. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in the July 29 earnings release: “We are advancing the frontier on the cost-to-outcome curve, ensuring every customer can turn tokens into business results,” a company executive’s characterization rather than an independent measure of future returns.

What Nvidia’s latest results say—and do not say

NVIDIA reported fiscal Q2 2027 revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year, with $89.0 billion from Data Center, up 117%. The company’s August 26, 2026 release forecast fiscal Q3 revenue of $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%. That guidance assumed no Data Center compute revenue from China, an important qualification when considering both the outlook and exposure to that market.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said in the release: “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue,” These comments express management’s view. The reported results and guidance provide evidence of company performance and expectations, but they do not establish what investors were pricing into the stock on October 13.

How to interpret the decline without overstating its cause

  • Separate the time windows. The roughly 1% Nvidia and Broadcom moves were reported premarket figures, not closing prices.
  • Distinguish the catalyst from the backdrop. AP described broad chip weakness and investor concern about CXMT; company earnings add competitive context but do not prove a cause for that day’s trading.
  • Keep roles distinct. NVIDIA’s Data Center revenue, Broadcom’s AI semiconductor revenue, and Microsoft’s cloud revenue describe different activities.
  • Mark guidance as guidance. NVIDIA’s fiscal Q3 and Broadcom’s fiscal Q4 numbers are forecasts issued by the companies, not realized sales.
  • Avoid inferring supplier relationships. Microsoft’s cloud growth does not by itself identify a chip purchase, and Broadcom’s growth does not by itself show displacement of NVIDIA.

Microsoft Investor Relations listed October 28, 2026 as the planned date for its FY27 Q1 earnings release when accessed on October 13. That is a calendar listing, not a reported result.
