The Nocs Portal AFN7 is a screen-free compact camera with an unusual cutout grip and a distinctive trick: it can photograph the view through compatible Nocs binoculars or a monocular. Its electronic viewfinder lets you frame that view. It also records 16MP stills and 4K video, but the lens and battery figures published for it are inconsistent, so those details need qualification.
How the binocular feature works
The AFN7 is designed to pair with Nocs binoculars and monoculars. Nocs says it works with all of its own binoculars and monoculars, and includes a NocDoc alignment tool to help line up the camera with the attached optic. The company describes using the tool to photograph distant discoveries through those optics (Nocs Provisions’ product page).
This is not optical zoom built into the camera lens. The camera records an image viewed through compatible Nocs optics, making the binoculars or monocular the source of the extra reach. The available information does not establish compatibility with other brands, and this setup should not be confused with a dedicated telephoto lens.
Screen-free, but not viewfinder-free
“Screen-free” means the AFN7 has no rear screen for reviewing photos, not that it lacks a display altogether. It has a digital viewfinder for framing and a 0.96-inch OLED for navigating menus. The electronic finder is central to the binocular feature: it can show the image passing through the attached optics, unlike a conventional optical finder.
#1 Best Overall
- 16MP Sensor: Captures detailed photos with a CMOS sensor for everyday shooting
- Optical Zoom: 5x optical zoom with a 28mm wide angle lens for flexible framing indoors or outdoors
- Full HD Video: Records 1080p video for travel clips, family moments, or simple vlogging
- Memory Support: Works with Class 10 SD, SDHC, or SDXC cards up to 512GB
- Rechargeable Battery: Included LB-012 lithium-ion battery charges in the camera over USB with the supplied adapter in about 2 hours; charge it for at least 4 hours before first use to maximize battery life
Without a playback screen, you will need to rely on the viewfinder while composing and check files later on another device. Nocs says files can be transferred directly over USB-C.
Specifications and what they mean
| Feature | Published detail |
|---|---|
| Sensor | 1/3.06-inch CMOS, according to Nocs’ product specifications |
| Photos and video | 16MP stills; 4K UHD video at 30fps, according to Nocs |
| Lens | Fixed focus from 1m to infinity and f/2.2, according to Nocs. Its specification table gives 22.5mm equivalent, while descriptive copy on the same page says 28mm. |
| Zoom | 8x digital zoom, according to Nocs; through-optics capture is a separate function using compatible Nocs binoculars or monoculars. |
| Size and weight | 122 × 73 × 44mm; 140g / 4.9 oz, according to Nocs |
| Weather protection | IP56, according to Nocs |
| Storage | 4GB microSD card included; cards up to 128GB supported, according to Nocs |
| Battery | Sealed, non-removable 1,100mAh Li-ion, according to Nocs. The company estimates up to about 2,250 photos or 180 minutes of continuous 4K recording; Digital Camera World’s October 2, 2026 report instead gives about 500 photos or 30 minutes of video. |
The lens and battery discrepancies are material. Nocs’ own page gives two different equivalent focal lengths, and the battery estimates differ considerably between the manufacturer’s specifications and the news report. Neither source supplies a test method that resolves the runtime difference, so treat both battery figures as attributed estimates, not a settled expectation.

Built for outdoor handling, with limits
The body’s cutout grip is intended to make the camera easier to hold, including when wearing gloves, while keeping its weight to 140g. Nocs specifies IP56 protection against dust, rain, and spray. That rating is not a claim of waterproofing: Nocs cautions against taking the camera underwater.
Storage and file transfer
The included 4GB microSD card provides a starting point, while Nocs lists support for cards up to 128GB. For more capacity, a compatible card can be used; the camera also supports direct file transfer over USB-C. Nocs does not specify in the cited product information how many photos or minutes of video fit on the included card, so the usable amount will depend on file sizes and settings.

Launch and availability
Digital Camera World reported that Nocs announced the AFN7 on October 1, 2026, and that it was shipping from Nocs and REI when the report appeared on October 2. That report listed a retail price of $179. Availability and price can change; check the current Nocs or REI listing for present terms. Digital Camera World also quoted Nocs describing Portal as a camera series designed as a platform, but the company did not detail any future models.

The AFN7’s unusual features serve a fairly specific use: taking stills or video outdoors, especially when you want to capture a distant view through Nocs binoculars or a monocular. Its light body and weather resistance suit outdoor handling, while the lack of playback screen trades immediate review for a simpler camera body.

It is less compelling if you need a conventional rear-screen workflow, confirmed cross-brand optical compatibility, or dependable published battery expectations before a trip. The published specifications establish its intended feature set, but they do not constitute independent image-quality or endurance testing.
