Microsoft is developing a two-building data center campus on a 64.5-acre site in northern San Jose. The company bought the land in 2017 for about $73.2 million; site work began in fall 2025, and a June 2026 report said the project had broken ground.
What Microsoft is building in San Jose
The project is near Alviso-Milpitas Road in northern San Jose. City project records describe two data-center buildings totaling approximately 396,914 square feet, with a maximum electrical load of 99 megawatts (MW).
The 99 MW figure is the campus’s stated maximum electrical load in the city record, not a published estimate of the facility’s actual continuous consumption. The record does not establish how much power the buildings will use at a given time.

What the data center may be used for
The campus will expand Microsoft’s self-owned cloud infrastructure in Silicon Valley and may support AI workloads. Microsoft describes AI data centers generally as facilities for training and inference, but it has not published a final workload mix for this San Jose campus. It would be premature to say that the site is dedicated to AI or to a particular customer or service.
