Microsoft released two separate Windows 10 cumulative updates on February 8, 2022. KB5010342 applies to versions 20H2, 21H1 and 21H2, while KB5010345 applies to Enterprise-family editions of version 1909. They are not interchangeable: your Windows version and edition determine which package belongs to your device.

Microsoft’s Windows 10 release information lists KB5010342 for the February 8 release and identifies build 19044.1526 for version 21H2. The deployment table in Microsoft’s security-update deployment information maps KB5010342 to 20H2 and KB5010345 to version 1909.

What KB5010342 changes

LDAP modify operations

For Windows 10 20H2, Microsoft says the update fixes LDAP modify operations that fail when the request includes both the SamAccountName and UserAccountControl attributes. The 21H1 and 21H2 sections incorporate the 20H2 improvements and list no additional release-specific issues.

Outlook desktop search

The 20H2 notes address a problem in which recent messages may not appear in Microsoft Outlook desktop search when mail is stored locally in PST or OST files. Microsoft says the scenario can involve POP, IMAP, Exchange and Microsoft 365 accounts. The effect is narrower when Outlook is configured to use server search.

Cumulative servicing and installation

KB5010342 is cumulative. If earlier updates are already installed, Windows downloads and installs only the package contents that are new to that device. Microsoft also says, “This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates.”

What KB5010345 changes

LDAP reliability

As with KB5010342, Microsoft documents a fix for LDAP modify operations that fail when SamAccountName and UserAccountControl are included.

Jordan daylight-saving-time rule

The update changes Jordan’s 2022 daylight-saving-time start from March to February. This is a regional time-zone correction, not a general Windows clock change for every country.

Servicing-stack prerequisite

Before installing the latest cumulative update (LCU), version 1909 devices require the July 13, 2021 servicing stack update KB5004748. The package is cumulative, so Windows obtains only content not already present.

How to identify the applicable update

  1. Open Settings and select System > About (or press Windows key+R, enter winver, and press Enter).
  2. Record the Windows 10 version and OS build, then check the edition shown in the same About page or under Settings > System > About > Windows specifications.
  3. Use KB5010342 for versions 20H2, 21H1 or 21H2. Use KB5010345 only for the listed Enterprise-family editions of version 1909.
  4. After installation, verify the build: 19042.1526, 19043.1526, 19044.1526 or 18363.2094, depending on the applicable version.

Known issues recorded in Microsoft’s release notes

KB5010342: offline media and Edge Legacy

Custom offline installation media or ISO images could remove Edge Legacy without automatically installing the new Microsoft Edge if the March 29, 2021 or later servicing stack update was not slipstreamed first. Devices that connect directly to Windows Update were not affected.

KB5010342: Bluetooth restart behavior

Microsoft documented a Bluetooth-related restart problem on some managed devices. The later KB5011543 update addressed that issue.

KB5010342 and KB5010345: Windows 7 recovery discs

Older Windows 7 Backup and Restore recovery discs might fail to start after the January 11, 2022 or later Windows updates. Microsoft identified KB5014023 as the later fix for the KB5010342 release context and KB5013945 for the KB5010345 context. The notes did not identify third-party backup or recovery applications as affected at that time.

Availability and support context

Both release pages display a September 12, 2023 notice stating that the corresponding KB is available only through Windows Update and is no longer offered through the Microsoft Update Catalog or other release channels. The pages recommend installing the latest security quality update; that notice does not establish what a particular device can install today.

Microsoft’s KB5010345 page records that Windows 10 version 1909, all editions, reached end of service on May 10, 2022. The KB5010342 page records the same date for Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations editions of version 20H2, while certain other 20H2 editions continued servicing. These are historical, edition-specific milestones and should not be read as current Windows 10 or extended-security-support guidance.

What the release pages do not claim

The cited release notes publish no named vulnerability count or other security statistic, and they contain no quotation from a named individual. The updates are described as security and quality updates with servicing-stack improvements, but the pages do not provide a numerical measure of vulnerabilities fixed.

The Bottom Line

KB5010342 is the February 8, 2022 package for Windows 10 versions 20H2–21H2; KB5010345 is the package for specified Enterprise-family editions of version 1909. Match the KB to your version and edition, check the resulting build, and use later cumulative-update history when assessing any issue documented in the original release notes.
