Windows 11 version 26H2 is reportedly rolling out gradually, while Xbox is reportedly introducing Mythic Achievements and expanding Disc to Digital. Microsoft’s support guidance explains how qualifying 24H2 and 25H2 PCs can enable 26H2; the Xbox details come from Neowin’s October 3, 2026 roundup and have not been confirmed here by official Xbox rules.
What’s new in Windows 11 26H2?
Neowin reported on October 3, 2026, that Windows 11 version 26H2 had become generally available and was rolling out gradually through Windows Update. That means the release may not be offered to every eligible device at once. Microsoft’s September 2026 support documentation confirms the release’s servicing model, but does not establish Neowin’s reported general-availability date.
Microsoft describes Windows 11 versions 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2 as sharing a common core operating system and identical system files. Features for 26H2 are included in monthly quality updates for 24H2 and 25H2 in a dormant state; an enablement package activates them. For a qualifying upgrade, that package moves the PC to 26H2 with one restart.
Who can use the enablement-package upgrade?
Microsoft lists Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2 as the starting version. The device must also have the September 22, 2026 KB5124010 preview update (OS build 26100.9546), or a later cumulative update, installed. A restart is required.

Microsoft lists Windows Update, the Microsoft Update Catalog and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) as distribution channels. For a personal PC using Windows Update, check the offer shown on that device; availability can vary. Neowin also reported that Microsoft published KB5121794 and an official ISO, but the Microsoft support information cited here confirms the enablement-package details rather than those publication claims.
What are Xbox Mythic Achievements?
According to Neowin’s October 3 report, Xbox has begun rolling out Mythic status to Xbox Insiders. A game earns that status when a player completes every achievement in its base release; downloadable content and achievements added later do not count. Neowin says the award can also be applied retroactively, including for completed Xbox 360 games.

- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
Those eligibility details are Neowin’s account, not a set of official Xbox rules established here. The report does not provide an authoritative eligibility list or step-by-step instructions, so players should not assume that every title or achievement set qualifies.
How does Xbox Disc to Digital reportedly work?
Neowin says the program is expanding beyond its Insider launch. Its description: insert a supported Xbox One or Xbox Series X game disc and receive a digital license associated with the Microsoft account. The account does not establish which discs, console configurations, regions or accounts are eligible, and it does not identify a definitive compatibility list. A disc-capable console alone should not be taken as proof that a particular conversion will work.

What other Windows and developer news did Neowin report?
Windows setup, security and printing
- Some ARM PCs may complete Windows 11 setup faster because hardware partners can supply a version-specific System Manifest during the out-of-box experience. Neowin says devices meeting a baseline can defer non-critical driver and firmware updates until after setup.
- Neowin reported a Word issue involving PDFs opened from network locations and a Microsoft Threat Intelligence warning about actively exploited Zimbra vulnerability CVE-2026-73570. The roundup does not provide enough detail to prescribe a fix; consult the relevant Microsoft advisories and Zimbra guidance before taking remediation steps.
- For Windows 11 26H2, Neowin says Microsoft’s security-baseline recommendation is to prefer the native Windows Ready Print IPP class driver where possible. Check Microsoft’s baseline documentation for the applicable configuration guidance.
Insider builds and development tools
Neowin listed Windows Insider builds Future Platforms 29680.1000, Beta 26220.9587, and Experimental 26340.9596 and 28120.3151 (26H1). It attributed minor changes to the Experimental builds, including support for the tilde character in File Explorer’s address bar. These build and feature details are Neowin’s reporting; consult the matching Insider release notes for authoritative channel information.
For developer tools, Neowin reported that Visual Studio Code 1.140 added a Copilot SDK-powered harness and experimental multi-folder sessions. It also said the September 2026 Visual Studio Stable Channel update moved Bring Your Own Model support into the newer Agent experience, added Podman container debugging and introduced Copilot-assisted fixes for NuGet vulnerability warnings. The roundup further reported that WSL Containers became generally available. Check Microsoft’s version-specific release notes before relying on any of these capabilities in a workflow.
