Microsoft’s current rollout plan is mid-to-late October 2026, with October 19 listed as the action date in its September 28 notice. Extensions or tools that inject scripts may be disrupted; Microsoft says users should still be able to sign in.
What is changing, and when?
CSP is a browser security policy that restricts which scripts and other resources a page can load. Microsoft says its added protections are intended to block unauthorized external script injection and reduce exposure to attacks such as cross-site scripting (XSS). It describes CSP as defense in depth: a policy layer that can prevent injected code from executing.
Microsoft’s latest surfaced Message Center notice, MC1481309, was published September 28, 2026. It gives a planned worldwide general-availability rollout from mid-October through late October 2026 and lists October 19, 2026 as the “Act by” date. These are Microsoft’s stated plans, not confirmation that deployment is complete. The earlier notice MC1191924 gave the same rollout window. Microsoft Learn’s CSP guidance and the MC1481309 notice archive describe the change.
Which sign-ins and tools are in scope?
The policy is enabled by default, with no tenant configuration required. Microsoft’s stated scope is browser-based sign-in at login.microsoftonline.com. It does not include Microsoft Entra External ID customers using custom or CIAM domains, other sign-in domains, or MSAL/API authentication flows.

Microsoft says scripts from trusted Microsoft domains or CDN sources will be allowed, while inline execution is restricted to trusted Microsoft-authorized sources. Browser extensions, monitoring software, customization tools, and custom solutions that inject scripts into the sign-in page may stop working. The sources do not establish that every extension or password manager will be affected.
Microsoft says users should still be able to sign in even if an unsupported injection tool stops functioning. That distinction matters: authentication may continue while an extension, monitoring workflow, or page customization no longer behaves as expected. Organizations that do not use tools injecting code into the Entra sign-in experience do not need to take action, according to Microsoft.

Will browser password managers still work?
Not necessarily affected: the relevant question is whether a particular password manager injects scripts or changes the sign-in page’s DOM. In a December 1, 2025 reply on the Microsoft Entra Blog, Microsoft employee Megna Kokkalera wrote, “If your password manager doesn’t alter the DOM or inject script into the page, there should be no change.” She also said Microsoft’s early testing found no CSP violations for 1Password or LastPass and that they should still work. This is a dated Microsoft report about early testing, not a guarantee for every version, configuration, browser, or sign-in flow. Test the setup in use. See the Microsoft Entra Blog discussion and Microsoft’s technical guidance.
How should administrators prepare?
- Map browser sign-in paths. Identify whether users authenticate through a browser at
login.microsoftonline.com. Keep those flows separate from MSAL/API sign-ins and Entra External ID custom-domain sign-ins, which Microsoft says are outside the stated scope. - Inventory extensions and tools. Review browser extensions, monitoring and customization software, and custom solutions used during sign-in. Ask vendors whether their products inject scripts or alter the page DOM, and whether they have a CSP-compatible approach.
- Test representative sign-ins. During sign-in, open the browser developer console and check for CSP violations. Include different user groups and sign-in scenarios; a violation caused by one user’s extension may only appear in that person’s flow.
- Address findings and communicate. Coordinate with vendors to update affected tools or move to alternatives that do not inject scripts. Update internal documentation and prepare identity and help-desk teams for possible changes to sign-in tooling.
Microsoft’s CSP rollout guidance recommends checking the console and testing the flows actually used in the organization.

How to decide whether a tool needs attention
Assess each tool against the sign-in flow it touches rather than assuming an entire product category will fail.
