You don’t necessarily need both Teams Premium and Microsoft 365 Copilot to use intelligent recap. Microsoft currently documents either license as an access route. Intelligent recap is the AI-generated layer for meeting and event summaries; standard recap materials are a separate, more basic experience. Teams Premium focuses on Teams meeting and event enhancements, while Copilot also provides AI assistance across Microsoft 365 apps.
What’s the difference between Teams Copilot and intelligent recap?
They are not two competing products. Microsoft 365 Copilot is a license and broader AI offering; intelligent recap is a Teams recap experience. A Copilot license is one way to access intelligent recap, and Teams Premium is another. Microsoft’s Meeting Recaps app documentation describes the license options, while its Teams Premium overview describes Premium’s meeting features.
| Comparison | Teams Premium | Microsoft 365 Copilot |
|---|---|---|
| Main scope | Teams meeting, event, personalization, and protection enhancements | Broader Copilot capabilities across Microsoft 365 apps, including Teams |
| Intelligent recap | Microsoft lists it as an access option | Microsoft lists it as an access option |
| Other relevant meeting features | AI-assisted notes and task assignment, personalized timeline markers, and AI-powered speaker suggestions | Copilot assistance in Teams and other Microsoft 365 apps |
| Price snapshot | U.S. $10 per user per month, paid yearly, as displayed October 4, 2026; eligible Teams license required | U.S. Copilot Business promotional starting price of $18 per user per month, paid yearly, as displayed October 4, 2026; qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription and offer eligibility required |
These prices are not a like-for-like comparison: Copilot covers more than meeting recap, and the products have different prerequisites. Prices are U.S. figures from Microsoft pages viewed October 4, 2026. Taxes, local pricing, eligibility, offer terms, and required underlying subscriptions can affect the actual cost; check your tenant’s eligibility and current regional price before buying. See Microsoft’s Teams business pricing page and Copilot pricing page.
What does standard recap include, and what does intelligent recap add?
Standard recap
For supported events, a recap is available after recording or transcription. Depending on the event, it can bring together the recording, transcript, shared files, notes, agenda, and follow-up tasks. These materials do not by themselves mean that the AI-generated intelligent recap features are available. See Microsoft’s Recap in Microsoft Teams documentation.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Intelligent recap
The intelligent layer can generate summaries, tasks, mentions, and personalized highlights to help people navigate what happened. Microsoft says it uses event transcript, attendance, and PowerPoint Live data. The Meeting Recaps app offers text-based, video, and audio recaps: intelligent recap requires either a Copilot or Teams Premium license, but audio and video recaps require Copilot according to Microsoft’s Meeting Recaps app documentation. The app itself is not supported on Teams mobile; that limitation should not be generalized to every Teams recap surface.
Do I need Teams Premium for intelligent recap?
No, not if you have an eligible Microsoft Copilot license: Microsoft documents Copilot and Teams Premium as alternative routes to intelligent recap. You do not need to buy both solely to obtain that access. The choice depends on whether you want the additional Teams-specific capabilities in Premium or Copilot’s broader Microsoft 365 assistance.

Access still depends on more than the license. The event type, spoken and transcribed language support, organization configuration, and permissions can affect whether a recap or feature is available. Microsoft says intelligent recap for webinars and town halls is limited to organizers, co-organizers, and presenters. Recap access is permission-based, and notes and tasks expire according to organizational policies. Check Microsoft’s current recap guidance for supported languages and event-specific details.
Is intelligent recap included with Microsoft 365 Copilot?
Microsoft lists a Microsoft Copilot license as an access option for intelligent recap. That does not mean every Microsoft 365 subscription includes Copilot: Microsoft 365 Copilot Business is an add-on for eligible Microsoft 365 subscriptions, and the U.S. promotional starting price shown on October 4, 2026 was $18 per user per month with annual billing. Confirm the current offer, eligibility, and required subscription on Microsoft’s Copilot pricing page.

How much does Teams Premium cost?
Microsoft’s U.S. Teams business pricing page displayed Teams Premium at $10 per user per month, paid yearly, on October 4, 2026. It is an add-on requiring an eligible Teams license. Regional price, tax, and eligibility may differ; verify the current price and your organization’s license requirements on Microsoft’s Teams business pricing page.
How to choose between Teams Premium and Copilot
- Choose Teams Premium if your priority is meeting and event enhancements in Teams, such as AI-assisted notes and tasks, timeline markers, and speaker suggestions, and you do not need Copilot’s broader app coverage.
- Choose Microsoft 365 Copilot if you want AI assistance across Microsoft 365 as well as Teams recap, and your organization meets its subscription and eligibility requirements.
- Do not buy both just for recap access. Compare the additional features and prerequisites you will actually use, not only the recap overlap.
Accuracy and access limits to keep in mind
AI recap is a navigation aid, not an authoritative record. Microsoft cautions in its recap documentation that AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate. Check important decisions, assignments, names, and figures against the transcript or recording. If a recap is missing, first verify that the event supports recap and has a recording or transcript, then check the user’s license, role, language support, permissions, and organization policies.
