No—not for websites in general. Microsoft says 13 selected Edge features load 40% faster on average after changes to the browser’s interface. The July 7, 2025 claim measures how quickly Edge feature interfaces appear, not how quickly ordinary web pages load. Microsoft has not presented the figure as a guaranteed improvement for every user or device.
What Microsoft’s 40% figure measures
In its July 7, 2025 Edge Blog post, Microsoft reported an average 40% reduction in load times across 13 Edge browser features. Its footnote defines the associated First Contentful Paint (FCP) measurement as the time it takes for Edge feature UIs to load visually. That describes browser interface surfaces—not the speed at which Edge loads websites.
The number is an average reported by Microsoft. It does not mean each of the 13 features, every user’s interaction, or every device will be 40% faster. The post also says global FCP for Edge feature UIs is below 300 milliseconds; that is a separate reported figure, not a promise that every interface or page will meet that threshold.
Which Edge features are included?
Microsoft’s July 2025 post names Settings, Read Aloud, Split screen, and Workspaces among the 13 features in the later improvement wave. It does not name all 13 in the cited summary, so the other nine should not be inferred from the examples.

This followed a separate announcement in February 2025. Microsoft said at least 14 areas of the Edge interface were 40% faster on average, naming Downloads, Drop, History, and the InPrivate new tab experience. The company said those improvements began with Edge 132. The February set of 14 and July set of 13 are separate reports; their counts should not be added together or treated as one measurement group.
How WebUI 2.0 is intended to make Edge’s interface faster
Microsoft attributes the interface improvements to WebUI 2.0, a markup-first architecture intended to reduce the size of UI code bundles and the amount of JavaScript that runs while an interface initializes. Reducing that startup work can help browser tools become visible sooner. The claim concerns the browser’s own interface, however, and does not establish that WebUI 2.0 makes websites or their servers faster.

Microsoft’s February explanation of the changes is in its February 18, 2025 Edge Blog post. The July post gives the later feature count and FCP framing.
How the 40% claim relates to earlier Edge results
Microsoft has also published earlier, feature-specific speed figures. They refer to different interfaces and dates, so they are not extra parts of the 2025 result or a single score for Edge overall.

The 2024 results are historical reports about particular Edge interfaces, not predictions for all computers with limited resources. They do not establish that buying RAM or an SSD will reproduce those improvements.

The figures come from Microsoft’s own posts. The cited material does not include an independent reproduction of the 40% UI measurement, so it is most accurate to describe it as Microsoft’s reported average rather than an independently verified benchmark. The company’s target was informed by its stated concern about how quickly users see initial content, but the measured content here is Edge’s feature UI—not web-page performance.

If the slower-feeling part of Edge is a browser tool such as Settings or Split screen, the reported work may be relevant. If websites themselves are slow, this 40% claim does not identify the cause or promise a fix. Microsoft invites users to try Edge and submit feedback from within the browser.
