Outlook Lite for Android is no longer a usable mailbox app. Microsoft blocked new installations on October 6, 2025, and Outlook Lite stopped providing mailbox functionality on May 25, 2026. The documented replacement is Microsoft Outlook Mobile; your Microsoft or Google account and its mail, calendar items, and attachments were not deleted.
What happened to Outlook Lite?
Microsoft retired Outlook Lite, the lightweight Android app. This affects Outlook Lite specifically, not the standard Outlook mobile app and not the underlying email accounts.

Both milestones are now in the past as of September 30, 2026.
When did Microsoft block new Outlook Lite installations?
New installations were blocked on October 6, 2025. That date comes from archived notice MC1276508, which Microsoft 365 Message Center published on April 10, 2026 and which is preserved by a third-party archive.

If Outlook Lite is missing from your Android phone now, reinstalling it is not the supported path. Microsoft’s documented direction is to move to Outlook Mobile.
When did Outlook Lite stop working?
Microsoft Support says Outlook Lite stopped providing mailbox functionality on May 25, 2026. The retirement notice adds that an existing installation could still launch, but mailbox access and navigation inside the app no longer worked. Opening the old icon, therefore, does not mean the service is still operating.

Will Outlook Lite delete my emails or account?
No. Retirement of the app is not deletion of an account. MC1276508 says accounts were not deleted and that email, calendar items, and attachments remained available after signing in to Outlook Mobile.
This continuity applies to the account data identified in the notice; it does not make the retired Outlook Lite interface functional again.

How to move from Outlook Lite to Outlook Mobile
- Open Google Play on your Android device and search for Microsoft Outlook, the Outlook Mobile app.
- Install or open Outlook Mobile.
- Sign in with the same email account you used in Outlook Lite.
- Allow the app to synchronize, then check your mail, calendar, and attachments.
- If you manage an organization, notify affected users and direct them to the replacement app. MC1276508 says no administrator action was required for the retirement itself.
Outlook Lite supported Exchange Online, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Hotmail, Live, MSN, and Google accounts. Microsoft Support recommends Outlook Mobile for the transition.

Do you need a new phone or other hardware?
No hardware purchase is part of Microsoft’s documented remedy. The supported change is to install Outlook Mobile and sign in with the existing account. If Outlook Mobile cannot be installed on a particular device, check that device’s Android compatibility and available storage through Google Play; the retirement notices do not specify a replacement phone or accessory.
