Edge’s feature is called Screenshot; older Microsoft material calls it Web Capture. Microsoft describes it as a way to turn web content into a shareable image, including long or moving pages that continue below the visible viewport. The exact feature set can vary by device, market, and browser version.
How to capture an entire webpage in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page in Edge and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also right-click an empty part of the page and choose Screenshot, or open Edge’s Settings and more menu and choose it there.
- Choose the full-page capture option. Edge scrolls through the page and includes content below the fold rather than only the visible viewport.
- Inspect the resulting image in the capture overlay. Use the pen or touch tools if you need to draw attention to an area.
- Choose Copy to place the image on the clipboard, or Save to write it to a file. Paste the copied image into an email, document, chat, or editor to verify the result.
What full-page capture can and cannot guarantee
Full-page mode is intended for scrolling and moving webpages, but a page can still produce an imperfect image when its content requires a login, changes while Edge is scrolling, uses an embedded cross-origin frame, or loads images only after a particular interaction. Let the page finish loading first and check the capture before sharing it. Microsoft does not publish universal speed or accuracy figures for this feature.
How to capture only part of a webpage
- Open Screenshot with Ctrl+Shift+S, the page context menu, or Edge’s Settings and more menu.
- Select the area or selected-region option.
- Drag around the text, image, chart, or other content to retain. Adjust the boundary before releasing if the selection is not exact.
- Annotate with the pen or touch controls, then copy the image or save it.
This mode is appropriate when a full article would expose unrelated material or create an unnecessarily large file. It captures webpage content, not arbitrary windows behind Edge.

Capture the desktop or another application with Windows Snipping Tool
Use Snipping Tool when the target is outside the webpage: a desktop, another application, a dialog box, or a freeform region.
- Press Windows+Shift+S.
- Choose a mode from the overlay: rectangular, window, full-screen, or freeform.
- Make the selection. The image is copied to the clipboard and a notification opens the Snipping Tool editor.
- Open the notification if you need annotation, cropping, text extraction (OCR), or quick redaction of recognized email addresses or phone numbers. Save or copy the edited result.
Print Screen takes a static full-screen snapshot and copies it to the clipboard. It is faster than opening a selection overlay, but it does not choose a window or region first.
Record a screen region as video
- Press Windows+Shift+R to open Snipping Tool’s video overlay.
- Select the region to record and start recording.
- Stop when the demonstration is complete, then review and save the video from Snipping Tool.
Edge Screenshot creates still images. Choose the video shortcut when motion, a software demonstration, or a changing interface is the subject.

Why Ctrl+Shift+S does not work in Edge
The browser or operating system is unsupported
Microsoft’s policy documentation lists Screenshot support for Edge version 87 or later on Windows and macOS. Android and iOS are marked unsupported for that policy feature. Update Edge on a supported desktop and test again; mobile Edge should not be expected to expose this shortcut.
An administrator disabled Web Capture
In a managed installation, the WebCaptureEnabled policy controls access. When it is enabled or not configured, Screenshot is available from the context menu, the Settings and more menu, and Ctrl+Shift+S. When it is disabled, all three entry points are unavailable. Ask your administrator to review the policy rather than trying to work around it.
Another application intercepted the keys
Keyboard utilities, remote-desktop software, accessibility tools, and custom hotkey managers can claim the same combination. Try Screenshot from the right-click menu. If that works, identify and change the conflicting shortcut, then restart Edge.

Focus is in a special surface
Some protected dialogs, browser UI surfaces, or embedded viewers do not behave like a normal webpage. Click inside the page, close transient menus, and invoke Screenshot again. For a browser window that still cannot be captured, use Windows+Shift+S and select the window.
Mac and Windows shortcut details
The documented Edge keyboard reference includes many Windows and Mac shortcuts, but the reviewed reference does not specify a separate Mac key combination for Screenshot. On macOS, use the page context menu or Edge’s Settings and more menu instead of assuming that the Windows shortcut has a Command-key equivalent. macOS’s own screenshot shortcuts remain available for desktop-level captures.

- Wait for lazy content: scroll through a page once when important images or tables appear only on demand, then run full-page capture.
- Choose the narrowest useful scope: a selected region is easier to read and share than a very long page.
- Check dynamic areas: carousels, ads, chat panels, and live dashboards can change while Edge captures them.
- Verify privacy: inspect the saved image for account names, email addresses, notifications, or confidential data before sending it.
- Use OCR carefully: Snipping Tool’s text extraction is useful for copying recognized text, but visually verify names, punctuation, and numbers.
- Keep the destination in mind: clipboard output is convenient for a document; saving a file is safer when you need a durable attachment or archive.
