On December 13, 2017, Microsoft announced that Bing would bring Reddit discussions and AMA discovery into search results as part of a wider rollout of AI-powered Intelligent Search features. Reddit content appeared as previews and conversation snippets—not as a standalone Reddit app—and Microsoft said the initial rollout began in the United States.
What did Microsoft and Reddit launch together?
Microsoft’s Bing team announced a partnership that made Reddit discussions easier to discover through Bing. The announcement was part of a broader Intelligent Search update intended to provide faster, more complete answers and more natural ways to interact with search. Microsoft said Reddit had 330 million monthly active users and 2.8 million comments a day at the time; those are figures cited in the 2017 announcement, not current usage statistics. In contemporaneous coverage, TechCrunch reported that a Microsoft executive attributed one-third of U.S. desktop search results to Bing. That was a 2017 company claim, not an independently verified or current market-share measure. TechCrunch’s coverage
How Reddit content was meant to appear in Bing
The announced integration centered on surfacing relevant conversations and helping people find AMAs. Microsoft described three initial experiences:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →#1 Best Overall
Previews for a topic or subreddit
A search for a specific Reddit topic or community—Microsoft’s example was “Reddit Aww”—could display a preview of that day’s top conversations.
Conversation snippets in general search
When Bing judged that a question would be better answered by Reddit discussions, results could include a snippet of relevant conversations near the top. The idea was to provide discussion context in search rather than require users to begin with Reddit itself.

Reddit AMA discovery
Bing was also intended to help users find Reddit’s Ask Me Anything events. Searching for a person could show a snapshot of that person’s completed AMA, while searching “Reddit AMAs” could bring up a carousel of AMA information, including schedules and snapshots of completed sessions.
How the Reddit integration fit Bing’s AI search rollout
The partnership was one part of a broader set of features Microsoft grouped under Intelligent Search. The announcement described answers built with machine-reading comprehension and deep neural networks to combine information from multiple reputable sources. It also covered comparison answers, conversational search that could ask clarifying questions, and image search using computer vision and object recognition. Microsoft’s feature announcement

TechCrunch described the wider launch as three feature groups: Intelligent Search, Intelligent Image Search, and Conversational Search. It also characterized the Reddit integration as surfacing highly up-voted responses and AMA material. TechCrunch’s coverage
The sources Bing used differed by feature: Reddit results offered crowd-sourced discussion, while the broader intelligent answers were described as drawing from multiple reputable sources. These were complementary approaches, not the same kind of answer.

Where and when the features were available
Microsoft said the Intelligent Search rollout began in the United States, with expansion to other markets over time. The announcement does not establish the present-day availability of these particular Reddit experiences or show whether every feature reached all users or regions. This was a 2017 product announcement, so its descriptions should be read as launch-era plans rather than a guide to current Bing functionality.
