Yes. Mayday and Air Crash Investigation are regional or broadcaster titles for the same Cineflix-produced aviation-disaster documentary series. The name shown—and sometimes the season or episode number—depends on the market and catalog.
Why does the show have two names?
Cineflix, the production company, lists the series under Air Crash Investigation and identifies National Geographic Channel as its international broadcaster, Smithsonian Channel in the United States, and Bell Media in Canada. The names therefore reflect different markets and broadcaster listings, rather than two separate productions. Cineflix’s series page provides the producer’s title and broadcaster information.
The Canadian title is Mayday; international listings include Air Crash Investigation. National Geographic UK, for example, uses Air Crash Investigation on its regional program listing. A title on a broadcaster’s page is best understood as that market’s label for the series.

It is an investigative documentary series about aviation accidents. Cineflix describes episodes built around investigation materials such as cockpit voice recorders and accident reports, alongside eyewitness accounts, interviews, reenactments, and computer-generated imagery. Executive producer Alex Bystram also referred to the program as “Mayday/Air Crash Investigation” and described its format as combining eyewitness accounts, reenactments, CGI, and interviews with investigators. The program’s reconstructions and explanations are part of a documentary, not a substitute for an official accident-investigation report. For the authoritative findings about a specific crash, consult the relevant investigating authority’s published report.
Do the season and episode numbers match?
Not necessarily. A secondary episode catalog reports that Smithsonian’s U.S. season and episode numbering differs from Cineflix’s official designations. If you are trying to find a particular installment across services or regions, compare the incident or episode title as well as the season and episode number. The same number can point to different catalog entries.

Cineflix’s series page, accessed in 2026, lists 230 one-hour episodes across 25 seasons, plus 56 one-hour compilation episodes under Mayday: Air Disasters. These are the producer’s published counts, not an independently audited tally; listings can also differ by broadcaster and region.

Availability depends on your country and the current rights held by broadcasters and streaming services. The producer’s broadcaster list and National Geographic UK’s regional listing do not establish a complete, up-to-date streaming catalog for every location. Check the services available in your country and search both titles, along with the incident name, if the first title search returns no result.
