LG UN8570: At First Glance

No doubt, LG is one of the most popular and reliable television brands globally. This is because the brand knows how to manufacture televisions that fit different requirements and pocket sizes.

Hence, in order to continue with this great legacy, LG released the UN8570 in 2020. The LG UN8570 is a smart television that offers a massive 86-inch 4K display with an IPS panel.

However, the price tag of this television is just as huge as its display. Specifically, when this review article was published in March 2022, the LG UN8570 was sold at Amazon at a $2,296.95 price tag.

With such an expensive price tag, this LG television has a lot of convincing to do before people can actually purchase it. Well, in the remainder of this review, you will find out if the television has enough features and performance to convince potential buyers.

Thus, kindly read on!

LG UN8570: Design, Dimension, And Weight

To start with, the LG UN8570 features a decent design that is very similar to the LG UN7300. To give more details, the television comes with averagely-thick bezels that border its huge display screen.

These bezels are made entirely out of plastic with a glossy-black finish. Moreover, at the center of the bottom bezel, you will find a white “LG” logo that beautifies the television and also serves as brand identification.

That aside, the LG UN8570 features two V-shaped plastic legs. Like the bezels, these legs are somewhat thick and offer a glossy-black finish that makes them look shiny and attractive.

Moreover, due to the thickness of the legs, they offer enough support for the television to stand firmly. However, that doesn’t mean the television won’t wobble when you nudge it with force.

Besides, the legs are positioned at the extreme edges of the LG UN8570. Therefore, if you are not planning to wall-mount the television, you will need a relatively large table to place it on.

What about when you are planning to wall-mount the television? Well, the LG UN8570 comes with four VESA 300 x 300 holes on its back panel for mounting it on the wall.

Focusing more on the back panel, it is made out of plastic and has a smooth textured black finish. Moreover, this back panel isn’t thick at all.

Therefore, if the LG UN8570 is mounted on the wall, it should look awesome and won’t bulge out. Sadly, there is no form of a cable management system on the back panel of this television.

Thus, if not arranged manually, cables attached to the television will look disorganized and messy.

With that being said, let us quickly discuss the dimension and weight of the television. The LG UN8570 measures 1943.1 x 93.9 x 1117.6 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 44179.9 g.

Comparatively, the LG UN8570 is heavier than most 86-inch televisions, such as the Samsung UN86TU9010. To be more specific, the Samsung UN86TU9010 weighs 42184.1 g.

All things considered, I will be rating the LG UN8570 an eight out of ten in this design review section.

LG UN8570: Display Features and Picture Quality

The LG UN8570 employs an 86-inch LCD display that is made with an IPS panel. Due to this IPS (in-plane switching) panel, this television’s display offers wide viewing angles.

Hence, when watching the television off-center or from extreme angles, the display’s picture quality will remain intact and not lose accuracy. As a result, the LG UN8570 is suitable for a large room setting.

Apart from its IPS panel, this television’s display also comes with a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution. As most of us know, 4K UHD resolution is the most used resolution in modern televisions.

This is because it allows a display delivers colorful, crisp, and detailed picture quality. Thus, thanks to its display’s 4K UHD resolution, expect the LG UN8570 to render realistic and sharp images.

Sadly, as with most IPS panel displays, the LG UN8570’s display has a poor contrast ratio, it features a contrast ratio of 1,131:1. As a result, this display won’t be able to produce deep blacks.

Basically, the blacks rendered by the display will look greyish. Thus, the LG UN8570 isn’t a good choice for watching movies with plenty of dark or shady scenes.

Also, the television isn’t ideal for dark room viewing due to its poor contrast ratio. If you are curious, the contrast ratio is the ratio between the brightest white and the darkest black a display is capable of producing.

To add to the woes, the LG UN8570’s display doesn’t support local dimming, which would have improved its poor contrast ratio. Practically, local dimming is a technique that enhances a display’s contrast ratio by dimming backlight zones.

Hence, with local dimming, blacks rendered by the display will be darker than they would be without local dimming. Disappointingly, this television’s display fails to support local dimming.

On a positive note, to compensate for not supporting local dimming, the LG UN8570’s display supports lots of HDR effects. These HDR effects are Cinema HDR (Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG), Dolby Vision IQ, and HDR Dynamic Tone Mapping.

Briefly, HDR (High Dynamic Range) is a picture technique that improves the brightness and color presentation of a display. Basically, when watching HDR-supported content on an HDR-supported display, pictures will be more realistic and natural.

For your information, HDR-supported content can be found on streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Google Play Movies. Unfortunately, despite supporting HDR, the LG UN8570’s display has a mediocre maximum brightness of 273 nits.

Therefore, this LG television isn’t good for outdoor usage or watching movies in a bright environment. Thus, to get an adequate viewing experience, it is best you use the LG UN8570 in a moderately-lit room.

On the plus side, this television’s display offers an excellent response time of 13.4 ms. Due to this, the LG UN8570 is very adequate for watching fast-motion content like racing sports and action movies.

This is because there will be minimal to no blur trails when the display is rendering such content. Just so you know, response time is the amount of time that it takes a display to change from one color to the other.

Besides being adequate for watching fast-motion content, the LG UN8570 is also good for playing video games. The reason behind this is that its display offers a low input lag of 15.1 milliseconds.

For context, input lag refers to the amount of time it takes a display to respond to or register a signal input from external sources like a wireless gamepad. Also, the lower the input lag, the better the gaming experience.

In conclusion, the LG UN8570 offers a brilliant display performance. Specifically, the television’s display has wide viewing angles, fast response time, HDR compatibility, and a low input lag.

However, the display comes with some major flaws, such as a poor contrast ratio and mediocre maximum brightness. Regardless, the LG UN8570 deserves an eight out of ten rating in this display review section.

LG UN8570: Sound Features

When it comes to the sound district, the LG UN8570 employs a pair of 2 CH 20-watt speakers. These speakers deliver nice audio quality and are extremely loud to fill a fairly large room with sound.

Besides, the LG UN8570 comes with a built-in subwoofer. Hence, it should be able to generate an adequate amount of bass to enjoy the rumbling sounds and vibrations in movies.

Also, thanks to its built-in subwoofer, the television is good for watching bass-heavy movies.

That said, the LG UN8570’s speakers are capable of delivering clear, loud, and audible dialogue. Dialogue simply means the conversation between two or more individuals in a TV show or film.

To further enhance its sound performance, the LG UN8570 comes with Dolby Atmos and Ultra Surround Sound. Dolby Atmos is an audio technology developed by Dolby laboratories that expands the surround sound production of the television’s speakers.

Thereby allowing the sound produced by the speakers to be interpreted as three-dimensional objects and cinema-style quality. Ultra Surround Sound, on the other hand, reproduces audio created by the speakers with amazing fidelity.

In doing so, enabling the speakers to deliver balanced sound with exceptional accuracy and excellent soundstage.

Moving on, the LG UN8570 offers a good distortion performance based on its result on a THD test. On a quick note, THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) test is a sound test that calculates the total amount of distortion a sound system can generate.

Furthermore, according to the test, a sound system can produce a significant amount of distortion if it scores above 1%. However, if the score is 1% or less, it implies that the sound system produces minimal distortion.

Fortunately, on the THD test, the LG UN8570 scored 0.058%. Hence, even when you set the TV to the maximum volume level, its speakers will generate little to no distortion.

If you are curious, distortion is the alteration of a sound device’s original signal. Thereby making the sound device generate unappealing sound and unwanted noise.

In conclusion, the LG UN8570 ticks all the right boxes when it comes to the sound department and production. Hence, I will rate the television a nine out of ten in this sound features review section.

LG UN8570: Ports and Connectivity Features

Port-wise, the LG UN8570 comes with an adequate amount of functional ports that are divided into two groups. Although all on the television’s back, some of these ports are right-facing while the others are directly on the back.

Starting with the ones directly on the back, they include two HDMI ports, two USB ports, an RF connector, and an Ethernet port. That’s not all; there is also digital optical audio out and composite video input.

Meanwhile, the right-facing ports include two more HDMI ports and another USB port. Besides, one of these right-facing HDMI ports supports Audio Return Channel (ARC).

Thus, with the help of that particular HDMI-ARC port, users should be able to connect a soundbar to the television. When it comes to wireless connectivity, the LG UN8570 offers built-in WiFi (802.11ac) and Bluetooth 5.0.

Moving on, as with most modern LG smart televisions, the LG UN8570 comes with the LG magic remote control. Design-wise, this remote is made of plastic with curved edges and a glossy-black finish.

Also, the remote features a round-shaped navigation button at the center. Besides, this navigation button also has a scroller in the center which makes navigation so much easier.

In addition to the navigation button, the LG UN8570’s magic remote comes with two dedicated buttons for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Also, the remote has a full number pad as well as a built-in microphone.

This microphone allows for voice commands via Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. That aside, you will find an “LG” logo at the bottom part of this television’s magic remote for brand identification.

In conclusion, the LG UN8570 comes with a good selection of functional ports and a voice-supported magic remote control. Thus, to conclude this ports and connectivity review section, I will rate the LG UN8570 a nine out of ten.

LG UN8570: Smart Features

Like most LG smart televisions, the LG UN8570 comes with an operating system called webOS. This operating system offers a user-friendly interface that has smooth animation for easy navigation.

Also, the interface is free of lags as well as annoying advertisements. Moreover, the webOS comes with plenty of applications and streaming services pre-installed.

Some of these streaming services are Hulu, Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, HBO, and so on. Besides, if you think the pre-installed streaming services aren’t enough, you can simply download more from the LG Content Store.

However, you should be aware that the LG Content Store has fewer streaming services compared to the Google Play Store or Samsung Store. Nonetheless, you should be able to share/stream media from your smart devices to the LG UN8570 using the LG Smart Share app.

Essentially, you’ll need to download this app to your smart device and make sure it’s connected to the same WIFI network as the TV. Moreover, the LG Smart Share app is absolutely free for download and available on the App Store and Google Play Store.

All things considered, I will be rating the LG UN8570 a nine out of ten in this smart features review section.
