LG UN7300: At First Glance

LG is one of the most dominant electronics and television manufacturing brands in history. The South Korean multinational brand formally known as Lucky-Goldstar has a wide range of television lineup and numerous models.

So, in 2020, LG released the UN7300 as the successor to the LG UM7300. As expected from a 2020 television, the LG UN7300 comes with a 4K display.

Moreover, like its predecessor, this LG television offers decent picture quality and a good number of ports. However, with its predecessor being one of the best 4K television during its time of release, the LG UN7300 has a lot to live up to.

The question now is whether the television will live up to expectations. To find an answer to this question, you have to read on!

LG UN7300: Design, Dimensions, and Weight

The LG UN7300 comes with a decent design that is almost identical to its predecessor, the LG UM7300. To give more details, just like its predecessor, this television features glossy-black bezels that are made of plastic.

However, these bezels are somewhat thick and protrude significantly from the screen. As a result, when watching movies on the television, these bezels might cause a bit of distraction.

On a positive note, there is a beautiful “LG” logo at the center of the bottom bezel. This logo features a white finish and gives the television an appealing look when viewed directly from the center.

That said, the LG UN7300 comes with a pair of V-shaped legs. Just like the bezels, these legs are made up of plastic and features a glossy-black finish.

Moreover, the legs are quite thick, so they should support the television to stand firmly. Therefore, even when nudged with force, this television will wobble just a bit.

However, these V-shaped legs are positioned to the extreme edges of the LG UN7300. Thus, if the television is not wall-mounted, you will need a table fairly larger than its size to place it on.

Speaking of wall-mounting, you can wall-mount the LG UN7300 using the VESA 300 x 300 compatible holes on its back panel. Moreover, this television’s back panel is made of plastic and features a matte-black finish.

Also, the back panel is of medium thickness. Therefore, when wall-mounted, the LG UN7300 shouldn’t bulge out of the wall significantly.

Unfortunately, just like its predecessor, the back panel of this television lacks a cable management system. Hence, to make the television look a bit organized, you have to manually arrange the cable attached to it.

With that being said, let us now discuss the dimension and weight of the LG UN7300. To start with, the LG UN7300 measures 1463 x 88.9 x 850.9 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 21318.8 g.

Honestly, for a 65-inch television, this LG television isn’t particularly heavy. As a matter of fact, the television weighs less than most of its 65-inch competitors.

For instance, the Samsung UN65RU7100FXZA weighs 24992 g and the Sony XBR-65Z9F weighs 29500 g.

In conclusion, the LG UN7300 features a simple-looking design with an all-plastic build. However, this television comes with thick bezels and lacks a cable management system.

Therefore, to end this design review section, I will be rating the LG UN7300 an eight out of ten.

LG UN7300: Display Features and Picture Quality

As stated earlier in the “My Initial Thoughts” section, the LG UN7300 comes with a 4K display. To be more specific, this television features a 65-inch LCD display with a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) screen resolution.

Due to its 4K resolution, this television’s display should be capable of delivering crisp, colorful, and realistic images. In fact, compared to the typical HD resolution display, a 4K resolution display is about four times better, shaper, and more colorful.

Unfortunately, the LG UN7300’s display offers a low contrast ratio due to the fact that it is made with an IPS panel. To be more specific, this 65-inch LCD display comes with a contrast ratio of 1,053:1.

For clarity, the contrast ratio is the ratio between the brightest shade (white) and the darkest shade (black) that a display is capable of producing. Furthermore, when determining the black level of a display, the contrast ratio is a very crucial factor.

Basically, if a display features a high contrast ratio, it would be able to produce deep blacks. On the contrary, if the display has a low contrast ratio, it won’t be able to produce deep blacks.

Therefore, with a contrast ratio as low as 1,053:1, the LG UN7300’s display will not be able to produce deep blacks. In other words, blacks on the display tend to look more like gray.

As a result, content with lots of dark scenes like horror movies might not be appealing to watch on the LG UN7300. Also, the television might not be ideal for dark room viewing.

To make things worse, the LG UN7300’s display doesn’t support local dimming, which would have enhanced its contrast ratio. To clarify, local dimming is an enhancing technique that improves the contrast ratio of LCD/LED displays by dimming backlight zones.

Practically, with local dimming, blacks on a display will look darker and deeper than they would without local dimming.

Sadly, this television’s poor display performance doesn’t end here as its display offers a mediocre maximum brightness of 319 nits. Although this brightness is enough for the display to perform well in moderately-lit rooms, it isn’t enough for bright or sunny rooms.

On a positive note, because it is made of an IPS panel, the LG UN7300’s display offers outstanding viewing angles. Thus, when viewing the LG UN7300 off-center, the display’s picture quality and colors will remain intact without losing accuracy.

In addition to its impressive viewing angles, the LG UN7300’s display supports HDR (High Dynamic Range). Therefore, when viewing HDR-supported content on the LG UN7300, the display will be brighter and its picture quality will be more realistic.

In case you are wondering HDR-supported content can be found on streaming apps such as Hulu and Amazon Prime Video.

With all that being said, now let us discuss the response time and input lag of the LG UN7300’s display. To start with, this television’s display offers a fast response time of 17.4 milliseconds.

Therefore, with such a fast response time, there will be minimal blur trails when viewing fast-moving content on the display. As a result, the LG UN7300 is ideal for watching action movies, sports, and other fast-moving content.

If you are curious, response time is the time that it takes a display to transition from a particular change to another.

When it comes to the input lag, the LG UN7300’s display offers an impressively low input lag of 9.9 milliseconds. As a result, this LG television is ideal for gaming.

For clarity, input lag is the amount of time that it takes a display to respond to signal input for external sources. To give more details, external sources that deliver signal input include a wireless gamepad.

Thus, the lower the display’s input lag, the better the gaming experience.

In conclusion, the LG UN7300 offers a decent display performance for casual viewing and gaming. Specifically, the television’s display supports HDR and features wide viewing angles, low input lag, and fast response time.

However, the display has a poor contrast ratio and it isn’t bright enough. Therefore, I will be rating the LG UN7300 an eight out of ten in this display review section.

LG UN7300: Sound Features

The LG UN7300 employs a pair of 20-watt speakers that offers decent sound quality. Moreover, these speakers are fairly loud and should be able to fill a large room with sound.

Aside from being loud, these speakers are also capable of producing crisp and clear dialogue. Dialogue in this context simply means a conversation between two or more characters in a TV show or movie.

On the downside, the LG UN7300 lacks a subwoofer. Therefore, the television will not be able to produce enough bass to enjoy rumbling sound effects.

Also, due to its lack of a subwoofer, the LG UN7300 isn’t ideal for viewing bass-heavy movies. In order to compensate for its lack of a subwoofer, this LG television comes with a sound technology called Dolby Audio.

Dolby Audio allows the television’s speakers to deliver a cinema-like sound quality. Basically, the sound technology enhances the loudness and surround sound production of the speakers.

Unfortunately, despite featuring Dolby Audio sound technology, the LG UN7300 offers mediocre distortion performance. In other words, the television’s speakers produce a significant amount of distortion.

This was proven through the television’s THD test result. For clarity, THD also known as Total Harmonic Distortion is a test that measures the amount of distortion a sound device can produce.

Moreover, a score of 1% or less on this test means that the sound device produces minimal distortion. Meanwhile, a score of more than 1% indicates that the sound device produces a significant amount of distortion.

Sadly, the LG UN7300 delivered a score of 1.156% on the THD test. Thus, at the maximum volume level, the television’s speakers produce a significant amount of distortion.

However, the distortion might reduce but will still be noticeable when the television is at a moderate volume level. Just to be clear, distortion in this context is the alteration of sound frequencies, allowing a sound device to produce disturbing sound quality.

Thus, to conclude this sound review section, I will be rating the LG UN7300 a seven out of ten.

LG UN7300: Ports and Connectivity Features

Port-wise, the LG UN7300 offers a reasonable amount of ports. However, most of the ports are directly on television’s back while a few of them are right-facing.

Therefore, if you wall-mount the LG UN7300, you may not be able to easily access the majority of the ports. Having said that, let us now discuss the numerous kind of ports that this television features.

To start with, there are only two HDMI ports and a USB port on the right side of the television. Impressively, these HDMI ports support ARC (Audio Return Channel).

Therefore, using any of the right-facing HDMI ports, you should be able to connect a soundbar to the television. Directly on the back of the LG UN7300, you will find another HDMI port, a USB port, and an Ethernet port.

Also, there is digital optical audio out, and composite video input on the back of this television. For wireless connectivity, the LG UN7300 offers Bluetooth 5.0 and a built-in 802.11 ac WiFi.

Moving on, like its predecessor, the LG UN7300 comes with an LG magic remote control. This remote features a plastic body with curved edges and a glossy-black finish.

In addition to that, the remote has a full number pad as well as a round-shaped navigation button. Moreover, at the center of this navigation button, there is a scrolling wheel just in case you are tired of pressing buttons.

Furthermore, as expected from a magic remote, this remote control has two dedicated buttons for Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. Also, the remote features a built-in microphone for voice input via Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

In addition to its built-in microphone, the LG UN7300’s magic remote control features an “LG” logo at the bottom for brand recognition.

In conclusion, the LG UN7300 offers a decent port selection and a voice-supported magic remote control. However, the location of most of the television’s ports might be a problem.

Hence, I will be rating the LG UN7300 an eight out of ten in the ports and connectivity review section.

LG UN7300: Smart Features

Like its predecessor and other LG smart televisions, the LG UN7300 comes with the webOS. This operating system has a user-friendly interface that is very easy to navigate, lag-free, and ads-free

In addition to its user-friendly interface, the operating system offers quite a number of streaming services. These streaming services include Netflix, Hulu, Pluto TV, YouTube, Spotify, Disney+, and so on.

Moreover, if you ever need more streaming services on this webOS, you can easily download them from the LG Content Store. However, the LG Content Store doesn’t have a lot of streaming apps like the Google Play Store or the Samsung store.

Impressively, the webOS features a full web browser. Therefore, you will be able to browse the internet using the LG UN7300.

In conclusion, the LG UN7300 comes with an operating system that offers a user-friendly interface. Also, the television’s OS has major streaming services and a full web browser.

Therefore, I will be rating the LG UN7300 a nine out of ten in this smart features review.
