LG 55UH6030: At First Glance

We cannot deny the consistency of LG in releasing quality products, including different television models to suit customers’ needs. In this article, I will be reviewing one of their numerous TV models, the LG 55UH6030.

The LG 55UH6030 is one of LG’s 4K UHD resolution televisions in the market. Despite being a 4K resolution TV, it is also quite affordable.

In addition to that, there are even more to this TV’s features. Hence, if you are curious to know more, then read on.

LG 55UH6030: Design, Dimensions, and Weight

The design of the LG 55UH6030 is quite commendable and a bit classy. Its bezels aren’t specifically thin, but it still has that premium look.

The LG 55UH6030 bezels have a metallic look, but they are solid plastic. On the bottom bezel, we get an LG logo and an infrared indicator beneath the logo.

Aside from the bezels, most of the TV’s parts are plastic built, but they don’t feel fragile.

Moving around to the rear, the LG 55UH6030’s back view is basically plain. It has a horizontal thin dent close to the top and an LG logo at the center.

Unfortunately, the LG 55UH6030 doesn’t have a cable management feature. This feature allows you to neatly organize the TV’s connecting cables at the back of the TV.

The absence of a cable management feature means that your cables might be in disarray.

Meanwhile, the LG 55UH6030 features two V-shaped legs. These legs span from one edge of the television to another and are built with plastic material.

The LG 55UH6030 legs have a glossy black finish and provide proper support for the TV. However, I can’t say this will prevent the TV from wobbling when bumped.

Moreover, if you prefer mounting the television on the wall, you can take advantage of the VESA 300 x 300 holes at the back of the TV.

Moving to the weight and dimension of the LG 55UH6030, the TV is light for a TV of its size.

To be exact, it only weighs 17780.82 g, so it’s pretty easy to move around by one person. However, the LG 55UH6030 is slightly heavier than the LG 55UM7300PUA.

This is because the LG 55UM7300PUA weighs 14016 g. In addition to that, the LG 55UH6030 is only 55.8 mm thick with a total dimension of 1239.5 x 55.8 x 721.3 mm (W x D x H).

In conclusion, although cable management is a challenge, we can agree that the LG 55UH6030 is an attractive TV. Thus, this TV deserves a rating of seven in this section of the review.

LG 55UH6030: Display Features and Picture Quality

For the display, the LG 55UH6030 features a 55-inch display and an impressive resolution of 4K UHD (3840 x 2160). Also, this TV has 4K up-scaling capability that enhances low-resolution content to improve picture quality to a near 4K resolution quality.

Furthermore, the LG 55UH6030 also has a 60Hz refresh rate. To be clear, refresh rate is how frequently a display pixel updates in a second.

Thus, a decent refresh rate of 60Hz means that a TV display can refresh images 60 times in a second. Hence, delivering excellent picture quality for your viewing experience.

Additionally, the LG 55UH6030 has TruMotion which aims at improving the refresh rate of a display to get better content quality. Therefore, for a 60 Hz refresh rate, the TruMotion 120 multiply the refresh rate two times.

Moving on, I’ll be discussing the contrast ratio of the LG 55UH6030. The contrast ratio is the difference between the portion of the brightest whites and the deepest blacks on a display.

Unfortunately, the LG 55UH6030 has a mediocre contrast of around 1000: 1. Hence, dark scenes in movies will look grayish and not true blacks.

The reason for the poor contrast ratio of the LG 55UH6030 is attributed to its IPS panels. IPS (In-plane Switching) panel is a type of LED display.

Despite the poor contrast ratios of IPS panels, there are good sides. Speaking of which, IPS panels are characterized by crisp picture quality, excellent color reproduction, and color accuracy.

As a result, the LG 55UH6030’s viewing angles should be wide enough. So, while watching the LG 55UH6030, every seat in the room can be the best seat for viewing this TV.

The implication is that you can still have a clear view at an angle without the display looking washed-out.

However, the LG 55UH6030 doesn’t have local dimming, which is a turn-off for movie lovers. To give more details, local dimming improves the dark portions of a TV.

Hence, because the LG 55UH6030 lacks local dimming, it misses out on this.

Another downside to this TV’s display is that it doesn’t get bright enough. It only measured a peak brightness of 300 nits.

This result is poor compared to the 1000 nits recommended TV brightness. Hence, this TV’s display might be too dim to use in a bright room.

On the bright side, the LG 55UH6030 features the HDR (High Dynamic Range) pro format. This feature helps to improve image colors and screen brightness which makes images look more realistic.

In addition to that, the HDR pro makes HDR content like Netflix movies more appealing.

Furthermore, the LG 55UH6030 offers the 4K upscaling feature. This feature renders HD and Full HD content near 4K resolution quality.

Moving on, the LG 55UH6030 has a minimum response time of 9ms, which is a decent value. As a result of its decent response time, this display is ideal for fast-motion content.

For better understanding, response time refers to how swift the pixels of a display can switch between colors.

In addition to its response time, the LG 55UH6030 also registered an input lag of 33ms. In detail, input lag is the partial delay between the input signal and projection on the screen.

Thus, low input lag translates to a better gaming experience. However, with an input lag of 33ms, the LG 55UH6030 is reasonably decent for gaming.

In conclusion, the LG 55UH6030 has a colorful display with HDR and a good viewing angle. Furthermore, its input lag and response time are decent which makes it suitable for fast motion content and gaming.

Unfortunately, the LG 55UH6030 doesn’t have local dimming, and its brightness level is a disaster. Putting all these together, I’ll be rating this TV an eight in this section of the review.

LG 55UH6030: Sound Features

The LG 55UH6030 has 2 channels 10-watt speakers making 20 watts of output power for its sound unit. With the 20 watts speakers, the audio output is quite enough, unless you are standing at a distance.

If that is the case, you will need to purchase external speakers to complement the sound. Meanwhile, the LG 55UH6030 doesn’t have a subwoofer.

As a result, users should not expect any thumping bass sound when playing movies or music. However, as I already hinted above, you can purchase a soundbar to complement the lack of bass.

Furthermore, the LG 55UH6030 has a clear sound thanks to its Clear Voice Surround mode technology. This technology amplifies the TV’s loudness, thereby making it suitable for dialogue clarity.

Meanwhile, good dialogue clarity is helpful when watching content that involves a conversation between two or more characters in a movie or TV show.

The LG 55UH6030 also has another supporting feature for its sound called DTS-HD. The DTS (Digital Theater System) is proprietary of Dolby Labs.

This feature aims to filter the sound produced by the speakers and to improve the surround sound to near 5.0 channel capability. Also, the DTS tends to produce bass in a natural way that won’t hurt the TV speakers.

Unfortunately, the sound distortion of this TV isn’t that good. At average volume, the LG 55UH6030 records little or no distortion.

However, when the volume hits the maximum, the distortion becomes noticeable. To give more insight, sound distortion is caused by unusual deformation in sound production.

To conclude this section, the LG 55UH6030 has an acceptable sound performance. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have bass. Hence, I will be rating this TV a seven in this section of the review.

LG 55UH6030: Ports and Connectivity Features

The LG 55UH6030 has a decent number of input ports, these ports are segmented into two groups. The first group of ports is side-facing while the other sticks out the back of the TV.

To begin with the side-facing group of ports, it features one 2.0 USB and an HDMI port. The USB port allows you to plug and play content from external devices.

Furthermore, the ports that stick out the back of the TV include two HDMI ports, one of which is ARC (Audio Return Channel) compatible. The ARC compatible port allows users to pair the TV with a soundbar or home theater.

In addition to that, the LG 55UH6030 also has a composite in port, a digital optical out port, and an RF antenna/cable port. Furthermore, the TV has an RJ-45 Ethernet port for wired internet connectivity.

Speaking of internet connectivity, the LG 55UH6030 has an in-built WiFi 802.11 ax for wireless internet connection. Sadly, this TV lacks Bluetooth.

Moving on, the LG 55UH6030 doesn’t come with a magic remote rather, it features a basic LG remote control.

For more details, we will discuss the features and functions of the LG 55UH6030 remote control. For a start, the remote is a bit large and it has a matte black finish.

From the top, the LG 55UH6030 remote has a couple of buttons, including the power and input buttons. Next, we have the numerical buttons, the volume, and the channel control buttons.

Furthermore, we have the home button, mute, and settings control at the center of the remote. Next are the plus-shaped navigation buttons with back and exit buttons on each side.

Lastly, you’ll find the playback buttons below the remote control and some function buttons. One sad thing about this remote is that it isn’t a magic remote, and it doesn’t have an in-built mic.

However, it can perform all the essential functions adequately.

Considering all I have said in this section, I’ll be rating the LG 55UH6030 a seven out of ten.

LG 55UH6030: Smart Features

As we are all aware, LG has one of the best smart TV platforms and is quite consistent in giving the best. That said, let’s discuss what the LG 55UH6030 smart features have to offer.

The LG 55UH6030 features a WebOS 3.0 operating system which was released in 2011. The integration of this operating system is pretty much smooth and simple, yet efficient.

Furthermore, it has some pre-installed apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Hulu, Vudu, and the likes. You can also download more apps if the ones available are not enough.

Furthermore, the WebOS interface is relatively easy to scroll through. It also has an app bar at the bottom of the display.

Aside from that, the WebOS has some other cool features. One of these features allows you to view multiple channels or apps at the same time.

In my opinion, this is a great advantage when you want to preview other channels.

Another feature of the WebOS is Magic mobile. It allows users to link their smartphone with the TV via Miracast.

Miracast is a feature that allows you to project multimedia content from a smartphone or tablet to a television.

In summary, the LG 55UH6030 features a smooth and effective WebOS that doesn’t lag. Hence, I’ll be rating this TV an eight in this review section.
