LG 55UM7300PUA: At First Glance

When it comes to delivering smart TVs with the right features, you can always count on LG. One of the brand’s most prominent smart TV in the television market today is the LG 55UM7300PUA.

This television comes with amazing smart features that make it worth more than its price. Speaking of the price, the LG 55UM7300PUA had a price tag of $999.99 when I wrote this article in January 2022.

Despite not being too expensive, this TV comes with a 4K display that offers decent viewing angles and HDR compatibility. In addition to that, the LG 55UM7300PUA is ideal for gaming because of its display’s low input lag and response time.

Does the LG 55UM7300PUA actually worth its $900+ price tag? Let’s find out as I go over more details of this television in other sections below.

LG 55UM7300PUA: Design, Dimension, and Weight

When it comes to the design, one would not expect an astonishing design for a mid-range TV. However, the LG 55UM7300PUA shocked us all by featuring a pretty sleek design.

In fact, this television’s design is way more stylish than the more expensive LG UM6970PUB.

To give more details, the LG 55UM7300PUA features super-thin bezels that surround its display screen. These bezels are made of plastics, and they have this super-smooth glossy finish.

Asides from the TV bezels, most parts of this television are also made of plastic. Moreover, the bottom bezel features an “LG” logo at the center.

Proceeding to the back, the LG 55UM7300PUA comes with a plain back panel. This back panel has 300 x 300 millimeter VESA mount holes for wall-mounting the television.

However, this television’s back panel is somewhat thick. As a result, the TV will stick out of the wall and look awkward if wall-mounted.

Asides from being thick, this LG 55UM7300PUA’s back panel doesn’t have any form of cable management. Therefore, one would need to carefully arrange the cables at the back of the TV to make them look organized.

In case you don’t like viewing TVs when wall-mounted, the LG 55UM7300PUA comes with a pair of legs. These legs are made of thick plastic with a black finish.

However, each of these TV’s legs is situated at the edges of the television. Hence, you will need to place the TV on a large table if not wall-mounted.

On a positive note, these legs are very sturdy. Thus, even when pushed with force, the television will wobble only a bit.

Moving on, the LG 55UM7300PUA measures 1244.6 x 86.3 x 726.4 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 14016 g. In my opinion, I believe this TV isn’t too heavy for a 55-inch television.

However, it might require a minimum of two people to carry it. Notwithstanding, this TV weighs far lesser when compared to other 55-inch TVs, such as the LG 55UF7600.

Specifically, the LG 55UF7600 weighs 17780 g.

Lastly, I would say that the LG 55UM7300PUA has a pretty good design for its price tag. Also, this TV isn’t particularly heavy when compared to one of its competitors.

Based on the facts above, I will rate the LG 55UM7300PUA an eight out of ten in this design section.

LG 55UM7300PUA: Display Features

To begin with, the LG 55UM7300PUA boasts a 55-inch IPS display with a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution. Due to its 4K resolution, this television’s 55-inch display should be able to deliver colorful and realistic content.

However, I must say that the LG 55UM7300PUA’s display comes with a mixture of both bad and good attributes. Speaking of the bad attributes, this display features a poor contrast ratio.

To give more details, the display has a contrast ratio of 1105:1. Wondering what contrast ratio means?

A contrast ratio simply means the difference between the brightest shade and darkest shade that a TV’s display can produce. Moreover, the implication of having a poor contrast ratio is that the display won’t be able to produce deep black.

Therefore, the LG 55UM7300PUA’s won’t be able to produce deep black. As a result, the TV may not ideal for viewing movies or TV shows with plenty of dark or shadowy scenes.

To make situations even worse, the LG 55UM7300PUA’s display doesn’t support local dimming. Local dimming is a technique that displays use to enhance their contrast ratio or the black they produce.

Aside from not supporting local dimming, this television’s display has poor maximum brightness. To give more details, this TV display has a maximum brightness of just 353 nits.

Therefore, viewing the LG 55UM7300PUA in well-lit or bright areas may not be a good idea.

I know you must be disappointed with the LG 55UM7300PUA’s display performance so far. However, I already mentioned earlier that this display comes with a mix of good and bad attributes.

Thus, let us now discuss some of its good attributes. First things first, this display comes with color techniques such as the advanced color enhancer and true color accuracy.

This advanced color enhancer allows this display to be able to render a wide range of colors. True color accuracy, on the other hand, makes the colors that the display produces look exactly like they should.

Basically, if the display renders red color, it would come out exactly red rather than appearing as orange-red or even orange sometimes.

Asides from the few impressive color techniques, the LG 55UM7300PUA’s display has outstanding viewing angles. Therefore, when viewing the television from the sides or off-center, the picture quality will remain intact without dropping.

As a result, the LG 55UM7300PUA is an ideal television for a large room setting.

Another impressive thing about the LG 55UM7300PUA’s display is its ability to handle reflection effectively. This is all thanks to the semi-gloss coating that retracts and prevents reflections on the display.

Moving on, the LG 55UM7300PUA’s display comes with a low input lag. To be more specific, this display comes with an impressively low input lag of 10.8 milliseconds.

For the record, input lag simply means the time it will take for a display to register a signal input. Due to the fact that its display has such a low input lag, the LG 55UM7300PUA is an excellent choice for gamers.

In addition to its low input lag, the LG 55UM7300PUA’s display comes with an impressive response time. To be precise, this display has a response time of 12.4 milliseconds.

For clarity, response time is the duration it takes a display to transition from one color to another. Therefore, thanks to its impressive display response time, the LG 55UM7300PUA is ideal for watching fast-motion content like sports.

In conclusion, the LG 55UM7300PUA’s display comes with some major flaws, including a poor contrast ratio. However, I can assure you that the display’s pros are way more than its flaws.

In that regard, I will rate the LG 55UM7300PUA an eight out of ten in this display review section.

LG 55UM7300PUA: Sound Features

For the sound department, LG equipped the 55UM7300PUA with a pair of 20-watt speakers. These speakers aren’t particularly good, but they are not bad as well.

Basically, the speakers produce average sound quality. However, because of the lack of a subwoofer, this television doesn’t produce enough bass.

Hence, watching movies or playing audio with thunderous bass may not be ideal for this TV. On a positive note, the television’s speakers are capable of producing loud sounds that can easily fill a large room.

Moving to the TV’s distortion performance, the LG 55UM7300PUA is quite impressive in this aspect. To give more details, the television’s speakers produce little to no distortion, even at the maximum volume level.

To prove this fact, I will now share the television’s results of a THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) test. On this test, when a TV scores less than one percent, this means its speakers produce minimal distortion.

Fortunately, the LG 55UM7300PUA scored way below one percent on the THD test. To be more specific, this television scored 0.6% on the THD test.

Asides from its impressive distortion performance, the LG 55UM7300PUA’s speakers produce clear and audible dialogue. Dialogue is the sound produced during a conversation between different characters in a movie or a TV show.

Overall, I will rate the LG 55UM7300PUA an eight out of ten in this sound features review section.

LG 55UM7300PUA: Ports and Connectivity Features

When it comes to ports, the LG 55UM7300PUA comes with a decent amount of ports. However, all of the ports are located on the television’s back.

Therefore, if wall-mounted, accessing the ports might be a little difficult.

That said, the LG 55UM7300PUA features three HDMI ports. One of these three HDMI supports ARC (Audio Return Channel).

Thus, by using the ARC-supported HDMI port, you will be able to connect a soundbar to the LG 55UM7300PUA. Apart from the HDMI ports, this television also comes with two USB ports for charging your phone or playing movies/songs from a flash drive.

Also, the LG 55UM7300PUA comes with an RF (Radio Frequency) connector for connecting an antenna to the TV. For wired internet connection, this TV features an Ethernet port.

That said, for wireless connectivity, the LG 55UM7300PUA comes with an 802.11ac built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0.

Having discussed the ports that come with the LG 55UM7300PUA, let us now talk about the TV’s remote control. To give more details, the LG 55UM7300PUA comes with a magic remote control.

This magic remote offers motion control that will enable you to move an on-screen cursor by just waving the remote. Also, this remote is made of plastic and comes with a matte-black finish.

Moreover, the remote is very portable and should fit into your palm perfectly. Unfortunately, this remote doesn’t come with a number pad due to its compact size.

Notwithstanding, the remote comes with a round-shaped navigation button at the center. Interestingly, there is a scroller in the center of this navigation button.

This scroller can also be used for controlling the cursor on the screen. Additionally, despite being portable, this magic remote manages to feature two dedicated buttons for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

As expected, you will find a large “LG” logo at the bottom of the remote control. Moreover, as a magic remote, the LG 55UM7300PUA’s remote control comes with an in-built mic for voice input.

To end this port and connectivity review section, I will rate the LG 55UM7300PUA a nine out of ten.

LG 55UM7300PUA: Smart Features

One of the areas where the LG 55UM7300PUA doesn’t disappoint is its smart features. To give more details, this television comes with webOS, just like any other LG smart TV.

LG’s exclusive webOS has a lag-free, straightforward, and user-friendly interface. Impressively, the animation of this OS’s interface is very smooth.

Additionally, the LG 55UM7300PUA’s WebOS comes with a variety of popular streaming apps. Some of these streaming apps include Amazon Prime videos, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and Disney+.

Moreover, if you feel you need more streaming apps, you can simply download them from the LG content store. However, it is important to note that LG’s content store offers fewer streaming apps, unlike the Google Play store and Samsung store.

Moving on, the LG 55UM7300PUA supports Amazon Alexa and Google Voice Assistant for voice input. Therefore, with the help of the remote, you will be able to control this television with your voice.

Impressively, you can stream content from your mobile device to the LG 55UM7300PUA. To do so, all you have to do is to download the LG Smart Share app on your mobile device.

You then connect your device (smartphone or tablet) to the television via Bluetooth. Then, you can stream whatever content you want from your device to the television.

In conclusion, the LG 55UM7300PUA offers some pretty amazing smart features. Therefore, I will rate this television an eight out of ten in this smart features review section.

Conclusion

To be honest, for a TV just a little bit over $900, the LG 55UM7300PUA has a lot to offer. Specifically, this TV comes with a 4K display, a good number of ports, and a magic remote control.

However, this television falls short in some major areas. For instance, the 4K display of this TV has a poor contrast ratio as well as a poor maximum brightness.

Nevertheless, I can assure you that the flaws of this TV are significantly less than its advantages. Besides, I strongly believe gamers will love the television because its display has a low input lag.

Thus, if you need a TV with good qualities and overall decent performance, the LG 55UM7300PUA is worth considering.
