LG 43UK6500: At First Glance
Ranking as one of the leading manufacturers of quality television sets, LG never ceases to add to its TV series yearly. In 2018, LG added two more models to its LG 650 series – the LG 43UK6500AUA and the LG 43UK6500PLA.
We have previously reviewed the LG 43UK6500AUA and now, we will review the LG 43UK6500PLA which is simply called the LG 43UK6500.
Just like its sibling, the 43-inch LG 43UK6500 also features a 4K resolution display, integration with Think AI, and HDR support. For its price, when I wrote this review in April 2022, the LG 43UK6500 sold for $2,999.99.
Although this TV is quite expensive, you might find it worth the price. However, to find out if it is worth its price, you will need to read this review to the end.

LG 43UK6500: Design, Dimension, and Weight
The LG 43UK6500 features a simple yet elegant design. It has relatively thick bezels surrounding its 4K resolution display.
The bezels are made of plastic and have a glossy metallic texture. On the bottom bezel, you will see the “LG” logo for beautification and brand identity.
There is also a stack of control buttons beneath the bottom bezel. These buttons are useful for accessing the basic functions of the TV.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The LG 43UK6500 comes with a stylish stand that is useful for propping it up on a table. The stand spans almost the full length of the TV, thereby providing balanced support, which makes the TV wobble less.
That also implies that you will require a wide table space to place the TV on. For build material, the pair of stands are made of plastic, but they have a metallic brushed finish.
At this point, let us proceed to the back of the TV to see what we will find. The backplate is also made of black plastic with a rough texture.
At the center of the backplate, you will find an LG logo and some little dents. Meanwhile, the bottom of the TV’s back is slightly thicker than the rest of the back.
All the input ports on this TV are located on its back, but most of them are directed to the left side, where they can be reached easily. One important feature that is missing from the back of this TV is a cable management system.
Therefore, in order to keep the cables tidy, you will need to organize them manually. Before we move away from the back of this TV, let us talk about the 200 x 200 VESA-compatible hole you will find there.
The hole is useful for mounting the TV on the wall. Therefore, users who do not want to place their TV on a table will find the VESA hole particularly useful.
However, this TV has a chunky form, so it will bulge out when you mount it on the wall. Speaking of its chunky form, the LG 43UK6500 measures 975 x 86.4 x 571 mm (W x D x H).
In addition to that, it also weighs 9000 g which makes it heavy too. In comparison with the LG 43UK6300BUB, which has the same size, the LG 43UK6500 is chunky and heavier.
To be precise, the LG 43UK6300BUB measures 977 x 80.8 x 575 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 8300 g.
In summary, the LG 43UK6500 has an elegant design, although it has slightly thick bezels and it is quite bulky. It also lacks a cable management system.
Hence, I will rate it a seven out of ten in this section of the review.

The LG 43UK6500 offers impressive display features, which I will discuss in this section. Starting off, the 43-inch display has a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution.
Because 4K resolution is the best resolution yet, you can be confident that the display of this TV will deliver crisp, colorful, and quality pictures.
The display of the LG 43UK6500 also uses an IPS panel which is quite famous for its good viewing angles. Speaking of viewing angles, the LG 43UK6500 display retains color accuracy, contrast, and image quality when viewed from acute angles.
Therefore, if you place the TV in a wide living space, you will see it clearly from anywhere you sit.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDespite the good viewing angles that are attributed to IPS panels, poor contrast ratios are attributed to them too. In case you do not know what that means, contrast ratio is the proportional difference between the bright and dark regions of a display.
Therefore, a high contrast ratio will ensure proper highlights and contrast in display content. It will also help the display to produce true blacks, which will result in a better viewing experience.
Sadly, just like most IPS panel-type TVs, the LG 43UK6500 has a mediocre contrast ratio. Specifically, the LG 43UK6500 has a contrast ratio of 1,325:1.
By standards, the LG 43UK6500 contrast ratio is relatively poor compared to the minimum allowed native contrast of 3000:1. As a result of its poor contrast ratio, the LG 43UK6500 will not produce perfect deep blacks in movies with dark scenes.
Recommended Free Tools
Not only that, but the LG 43UK6500 also lacks local dimming which makes the matter worse. You might be wondering what local dimming is well; it is a display feature that deepens the black colors on a display.
Therefore, if the LG 43UK6500 had local dimming, it could have made up for its poor contrast ratio. Sadly, because it lacks local dimming, dark scenes in movies will have a grayish tint and might not look real.
Another disappointing feature of this TV’s display is its poor display brightness of 341 nits. This maximum display brightness is not enough to overcome glares in a bright room.
Therefore, it will be best to reduce the lights in rooms where you place the LG 43UK6500 for a better viewing experience. It is quite disappointing that this TV does not have adequate display brightness and does not produce deep blacks.
However, it is a bit relieving that it supports HDR. As a matter of fact, LG integrated this TV with the 4K Active HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology.
This technology allows the display to produce realistic pictures as well as accurate colors when watching HDR content like Netflix movies.
Another positive aspect of this TV display is that it has a semi-glossy coating. This reduces indirect glare by absorbing light reflection and dispersing it across the screen to improve display clarity.
However, with direct lighting, the TV might struggle with reflection. This right here is another reason to keep the lights in your TV space minimal.

Moving on to the motion handling ability of this TV, the LG 43UK6500 also did great here. That is because it has a fast response time of 16.9 milliseconds.
For better understanding, a fast response time poses great importance in delivering blur-free pictures. Therefore, as a result of its fast response time, the LG 43UK6500 will be ideal for watching fast-motion content such as sports and action movies.
In addition to that, the LG 43UK6500 also has a low input lag which is beneficial for gaming. For clarity, input lag measures the time it takes the display to produce input signals, such as signals sent from gamepads.
That said, this TV has an input lag of 20.5 milliseconds which means that gaming will be very responsive on it.
In conclusion, the LG 43UK6500 offers remarkable picture qualities thanks to its high-resolution display with wide viewing angles. It also has a good motion performance which makes it good for watching fast-moving content and playing games.
However, it has poor display brightness, contrast ratio, and lacks local dimming. Putting all these together, I will be rating the LG 43UK6500 a seven out of ten in this section of the review.
LG 43UK6500: Sound Features
The LG 43UK6500 comes outfitted with a pair of 10 watts speakers which, when combined, produces an output power of 20 watts. These speakers are quite loud such that they can fill up an averagely-sized room.
However, these speakers do not produce adequate thumps and rumble. This is because the TV does not come with a subwoofer to improve the sound quality by producing bass.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Therefore, you will need to purchase a subwoofer for a better sound experience. Fortunately, the LG 43UK6500 delivers good dialogue clarity.
This means that the conversation between more than one character in movies or other TV programs is quite clear. As a result of that, the LG 43UK6500 will be suitable for watching TV shows, sports, and movies.
Furthermore, the LG 43UK6500 features DTS-HD sound technology. This technology allows the TV to produce a virtual multichannel sound.
Aside from that, the LG 43UK6500 delivers immersive surround sound thanks to the ultra surround technology it is equipped with.

Moving on to more details about the LG 43UK6500’s sound performance, let us talk about its sound distortion. To give more insight, distortion has to do with the amount of frequency deviation in the sound signal.
Thankfully, the amount of sound distortion produced by this TV is not noticeable both at average and maximum volume.
In summary, the 20 watts speakers of the LG 43UK6500 produce adequately loud sound with clear dialogue and unnoticeable sound distortion. The speakers are also equipped with some technologies that enhance the overall sound performance of the TV.
However, the speakers do not produce adequate bass. Considering all I have said, I will be rating the LG 43UK6500 a seven out of ten in this sound review section.
LG 43UK6500: Ports and Connectivity Features
Regarding port options, the LG 43UK6500 comes with an adequate number of ports. As I mentioned earlier, all the ports are located at the back of the TV.
Most of the ports face the side of the TV, where you can easily access them, especially when you mount the TV on the wall. However, few ports face the back, and they will be difficult to access when you mount the TV on the wall.
At this point, let me proceed to tell you what ports you will find on this TV. Starting with the HDMI ports, they are four in number.
Three of the HDMI ports face the side, while one faces the TV’s back. Meanwhile, one of the HDMI ports is compatible with ARC (Audio Return Channel).

In addition to the HDMI ports, on the LG 43UK6500’s back, you will also find two USB ports. One of the USB ports faces the side, while the other faces the back of the TV.
That is not all the ports on this TV; you will also find optical digital audio out port and a composite in (shared component) AV port. There is also a cable/antenna port and an Ethernet jack.
For wireless connectivity, the LG 43UK6500 comes with an in-built WiFi 802.11 ac and Bluetooth version 4.2.

Before I round up this ports and connectivity section, let us talk about the remote control of this TV. As regards that, the LG 43UK6500 comes with LG’s L-Con standard remote control.
This remote control is relatively large and comes with a lot of buttons. Some of the buttons include the power button, search button, and input source buttons.
Additionally, it has number buttons (0-9), a smart TV menu, playback buttons, and a plus-shaped navigation button. Thankfully, these buttons register clicks quickly.
Regrettably, the remote control does not have an in-built microphone for voice commands. Also, there are no dedicated buttons for quick access to streaming platforms.

However, some of these ports face the back of the TV, where they are difficult to reach when the TV is mounted on the wall.
Also, this TV uses a standard remote which lacks a built-in mic and other advanced functionalities. Nonetheless, the remote is enough to get the job done.
Therefore, the LG 43UK6500 scores a seven out of ten in this section of the review.

The LG 43UK6500, like most LG televisions, runs on the webOS smart TV platform. Thankfully, the webOS boasts one of the best smart TV platforms with an interface that is easy to navigate.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The OS is very smooth and does not lag. The interface also has a lot of features, such as the application menu at the bottom of the display.
Although the menu contains a lot of applications, it does not obstruct the display.
Speaking of the application menu, it is stocked up with some pre-installed applications. These applications include Vudu, Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu.
You can as well download more apps from the LG content store if the pre-install apps are not enough.

Additionally, you can play videos from an external storage device in major video formats. Also, users can mirror an Android mobile phone’s screen to the TV in order to view content on a wider screen.
Another thumbs up to the LG 43UK6500’s webOS is its quad-core processor, which helps it to handle all processing tasks smoothly.
Furthermore, LG integrated this TV’s webOS with one unique feature known as ThinQ AI. ThinQ AI is an artificial intelligence system that allows you to interact with the TV like a virtual assistant.
With ThinQ AI, users can do voice searches as well. However, the LG 43UK6500 remote control does not have an in-built mic for making voice inputs.
Therefore, you will have to buy a magic remote which sells separately. Alternatively, you can buy Google home speakers or Amazon Echo dot speakers.
In conclusion, the LG 43UK6500 comes with a remarkable webOS that runs thanks to its quad-core processor smoothly. Furthermore, it features ThinQ AI, which serves as the TV’s virtual assistant.
The only flaw with the TV’s webOS is that it displays some ads you can not disable. Nonetheless, the LG 43UK6500 scores a nine out of ten in this smart review section.
