LG 43UK6500AUA: At First Glance

LG is one of the best TV brands globally due to its consistency in delivering high-quality TVs. One of the LG televisions that have stood out in recent years in terms of performance and features is the LG 43UK6500AUA.

This LG television is a smart TV that offers excellent picture quality and a brilliant operating system (webOS). Furthermore, this smart television comes with a very attractive design that is attention-grabbing.

However, as it has lots of amazing features, the television also comes with a few shortcomings. Therefore, to know more about this smart LG TV and its drawbacks, I recommend you read this review all the way through.

LG 43UK6500AUA: Design, Dimension, and Weight

As mentioned earlier, the LG 43UK6500AUA comes with a sleek and attractive design. Moreover, due to its sleekness, this television would definitely look good in any location you place it in your home.

To be descriptive about the television’s design, there are thin bezels that surround the display of the TV. Moreover, these bezels are composed of plastic with an appealing sliver-glossy finish.

Moreover, the bottom bezel is slightly wider than other bezels due to the black “LG” logo at its center. This logo not only beautifies the television’s front side but also serves as a means of brand identification.

Moving on to the television’s rear, the LG 43UK6500AUA features a plain plastic panel on its back. Unlike the bezels, this back panel features a matte-black finish with a brushed texture that makes it very smooth to run your hands through.

Furthermore, there exist four holes in the plastic back panel of this TV. These holes are to accommodate a 400 x 400 VESA mount for mounting the television on the wall.

Moreover, like the bezels, the back panel of this television is very slim. Hence, the LG 43UK6500AUA should not bulge out or look unattractive when mounted on the wall.

Unfortunately, as with most TVs nowadays, you won’t find any form of a cable management system on the back panel of this LG television. Therefore, to ensure a clean setup, you would have to manually arrange cables attached to the television.

On a bright note, the LG 43UK6500AUA comes with pair of metallic legs. Similar to the bezels, these legs feature an attractive silver-glossy finish.

Besides, due to the metallic build of the legs, they should offer enough support for the TV to stand firmly without wobbling. However, these legs are situated at the extreme edges of the LG 43UK6500AUA.

Thus, if not mounted on the wall, one would require a fairly large table to place this LG television on.

That said, the LG 43UK6500AUA measures 975.3 x 86.3 x 571.5 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 8981.1 g. Sadly, when compared to most of its 43-inch competitors, this television is fairly thick and heavy.

For example, the TCL 43S425 measures 970.2 x 76.2 x 568.9 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 7393 g.

In conclusion, the LG 43UK6500AUA offers an attractive design with silver bezels and legs. However, this TV is heavier and thicker than most of its competitors.

Hence, to conclude this design review section, I will be rating the LG 43UK6500AUA an eight out of ten.

LG 43UK6500AUA: Display Features and Picture Quality

The LG 43UK6500AUA comes with a 43-inch LED display that is made with an IPS panel. Furthermore, this television’s display features a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution.

Due to its 4K UHD resolution, this display should be able to deliver vivid, colorful, and detailed images. Besides, thanks to its IPS panel, the display offers wide viewing angles.

As a result, when watching the LG 43UK6500AUA from the sides or off-center, the picture quality and colors won’t lose accuracy. Therefore, this LG television is ideal for a large room setting.

However, IPS panel displays have one major setback which is the contrast ratio. Specifically, most IPS panel displays offer a poor contrast ratio, and the LG 43UK6500AUA’s display is no exception.

To give more details, this display comes with a disappointing contrast ratio of 1300:1. Hence, the TV’s display will be unable to render deep blacks, and blacks will look grayish on the display.

Therefore, the LG 43UK6500AUA isn’t suitable for dark room viewing or watching movies with lots of shadowy or dark scenes. Just so you know, contrast ratio refers to the ratio between the whitest whites and the darkest black a display can render.

On a positive note, the LG 43UK6500AUA makes up for its display’s poor contrast ratio by supporting local dimming. Local dimming is a process that involves dimming the backlight zones of LCD/LED displays to improve their contrast ratio and black level.

Thus, with local dimming, blacks on the LG 43UK6500AUA’s display should look darker than they would without local dimming. Thereby improving the darkroom performance and overall picture quality of the TV.

To further improve its picture quality, this television’s display supports HDR (High Dynamic Range). Specifically, the display supports numerous HDR formats such as 4K Active HDR, HDR 10, and HLG.

In case you’re curious, HDR is a picture technique that increases the brightness and color accuracy of a display. Basically, pictures will be more realistic and lifelike when watching HDR-supported content on the LG 43UK6500AUA.

For the record, where you can find HDR-supported content is on streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. Besides, thanks to HDR, this television’s display offers an impressive peak brightness of 400 nits.

As a result, this LG television is suitable for usage outdoors or in bright areas. Impressively, when using the TV in bright areas, you shouldn’t have to bother about reflection.

This is due to the fact that the surface of the television’s display is covered with a semi-gloss coating. This semi-gloss coating retracts reflections from the display and reduces the density of direct sunlight.

The LG 43UK6500AUA continues to impress in this section as its display offers an impressively low input lag of 10 milliseconds. Briefly, input lag is the duration a display takes to respond to signal inputs from external sources like a wireless gamepad.

Furthermore, for a TV to the considered adequate for gaming, its display must have an input lag of 15 milliseconds or less. Basically, the lower the input lag the display has, the better the gaming experience on the television.

Hence, with its display’s input lag of 10 milliseconds, the LG 43UK6500AUA is very suitable for gaming. Apart from being good for gaming, this TV is also ideal for watching fast-moving content.

The reason for this is that its display offers an extremely fast response time of 9 milliseconds. Hence, when watching fast-moving content like sports on the television, there will be minimal to no blur trails.

If you’re curious, response time is the amount of time it takes a display to change from one color to another.

In summary, aside from its poor contrast ratio, the LG 43UK6500AUA’s display is absolutely flawless. As a matter of fact, the television compensates for its display’s poor contrast ratio by supporting local dimming.

Hence, there is nothing stopping me from rating the LG 43UK6500AUA a nine out of ten in this display review section.

LG 43UK6500AUA: Sound Features

For the sound department, the LG 43UK6500AUA comes with a pair of 10-watt down-firing speakers that delivers decent sound quality. Although these speakers aren’t loud enough to fill a large room with sound, they will adequately fill a medium-sized room.

Sadly, the LG 43UK6500AUA fails to come with a subwoofer, meaning its speakers won’t be able to produce adequate bass. Hence, movies with lots of thumping and rumbling sounds might not be suitable to watch on this television.

Nevertheless, you can consider purchasing a soundbar alongside the TV to get an adequate amount of bass. To compensate for its lack of a subwoofer, the LG 43UK6500AUA features a sound technology called DTS-HD.

This sound technology enables the television’s speaker to create high-quality audio and improve their loudness. Also, it helps in enhancing the surround sound production of the speakers, allowing them to generate a cinema-like audio quality.

Aside from its impressive sound technology, the LG 43UK6500AUA offers an adequate distortion performance. Basically, whether the television is at a moderate or maximum volume level, distortion will be totally absent on the TV.

For context, distortion is the alteration of original sound frequencies, allowing a speaker or sound system to deliver less-pleasant sound quality. In addition to its outstanding distortion performance, the LG 43UK6500AUA’s speakers produce clear and understandable dialogue.

For your information, dialogue is the conversation between numerous characters in a movie or TV show.

All things considered, I will rate the LG 43UK6500AUA an eight out of ten in this sound features review section.

LG 43UK6500AUA: Ports and Connectivity Features

To start with, the LG 43UK6500AUA features an excellent amount of ports. However, all the ports are situated on the back of the television.

As a result, whenever the television is wall-mounted, accessing the ports might be somewhat difficult. That said, the LG 43UK6500AUA comes with four HDMI ports, including one that supports ARC (Audio Return Channel).

Hence, using that particular ARC-HDMI port, you will be able to connect an HDMI-supported soundbar to the television. Asides from the four HDMI ports, this LG TV also comes with two USB ports, an Ethernet port, and digital audio output.

That’s not all; the television also features a composite video input and an RF connector. Meanwhile, when it comes to wireless connectivity, the LG 43UK6500AUA has Bluetooth 4.2 as well as a built-in 802.11 ac WIFI.

Moving further, the LG 43UK6500AUA comes with the standard AKB75375604 remote control. This remote has a plastic body with a matte-black finish and quite a number of rubber buttons.

Some of these buttons include a plus-shaped navigation button, a full number pad, a channel rocker, and a volume rocker. In addition to that, the remote also features two dedicated buttons for easy access to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Besides, you will find a bold “LG” logo colored in white at the bottom of the remote that serves as brand identification. However, as a standard remote control, the LG 43UK6500AUA’s remote control lacks a built-in mic for voice input.

In conclusion, although the LG 43UK6500AUA features lots of ports, they are all on its back. Thus, the ports cannot be easily accessed whenever the TV is mounted on the wall.

As a result, I believe an eight out of ten is ideal to rate the LG 43UK6500AUA in this ports and connectivity review section.

LG 43UK6500AUA: Smart Features

Like most LG smart televisions, the LG 43UK6500AUA makes use of the webOS as its operating system. One thing that would surely impress you about this OS is its interface.

Specifically, the interface of this operating system is very smooth, lag-free, user-friendly, and free of ads. Hence, navigating through this interface should be very easy and seamless.

Apart from its smooth interface, the webOS offers a wide range of pre-installed popular streaming services. A few of these streaming services include YouTube, Disney+, Netflix, HBO, and Amazon Prime Video.

Besides, the webOS features a built-in app store (LG Content Store), where users can download additional applications and streaming services. However, you need to know that the LG Content Store offers limited apps compared to the Google Play Store and Samsung store.

Nevertheless, with the help of the LG Smart Share app, you should be able to share/stream content from your smart devices to the television. Practically, you have to download this application on your smart device and make sure the device and TV are connected to the same WIFI network.

Interestingly, the LG Smart Share app supports various operating systems, including Android OS, macOS, Linux, and Windows OS.

In conclusion, the LG 43UK6500AUA comes with a brilliant operating system that offers a wide range of streaming services and a built-in app store. Therefore, I will be rating the LG 43UK6500AUA a nine out of ten in this smart features review section.
