Switching from Spotify to Apple Music can make sense if you want a music-first interface, Apple’s editorial playlists, Dolby Atmos options, a built-in way to transfer supported playlists, or a lower US individual price. Former-user accounts reported by BGR describe those benefits as personal preferences, not proof that Apple Music is universally better. Spotify now offers Premium lossless audio too, and its recommendation history, social tools, and Spotify Connect playback can be difficult to replace. The right choice depends on your listening equipment, discovery habits, library, devices, and local subscription price.
What are the reported perks of switching from Spotify to Apple Music?
BGR’s September 7, 2026 article identifies seven advantages that former Spotify users said they noticed after moving to Apple Music. They are useful decision points, but they are anecdotes and editorial judgments rather than results from a representative survey or controlled listening test.
- A less cluttered, more music-centered interface.
- Podcasts and audiobooks kept outside the music app.
- Lossless audio and Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio options.
- Prominent editorial playlists and more granular genre curation.
- A transfer tool for supported songs, albums, and user-created playlists.
- A potentially lower US individual subscription price.
- A way to add and sync a personal music library.
The sections below explain what each benefit means in practice and where the trade-off may outweigh it.
Is Apple Music’s interface simpler than Spotify’s?
Some former Spotify users told BGR that Apple Music feels easier to navigate because its home screen puts songs, albums, playlists, and recommendations ahead of other content. That can appeal to someone who opens a streaming app mainly to play music rather than browse podcasts, audiobooks, videos, social feeds, or heavily personalized modules.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
“Simpler” is dependent on how you use Spotify. A listener who relies on Spotify’s daily mixes, social sharing, queue controls, or broad content discovery may find Apple Music less flexible rather than cleaner. Interface preference is therefore a legitimate perk for some switchers, not an objective usability ranking.
Why do some listeners prefer podcasts and audiobooks outside their music app?
Apple Music is presented as a music service: its app focuses on songs, albums, music videos, radio, playlists, and recommendations. Spotify Premium, by contrast, includes audiobook listening and other audio content alongside music. Former users who want a dedicated music environment may regard Apple’s separation as a benefit.
The same separation is a disadvantage if you prefer one queue and one subscription for every spoken-word format. Before switching, decide whether you regularly move between albums, podcasts, and audiobooks. If you do, Apple Music’s narrower scope may create more app switching even though the music screen feels less crowded.
Does Apple Music sound better than Spotify?
Neither service can be declared universally better by specification alone. Apple Music offers Lossless and Hi-Res Lossless tiers, while Spotify currently documents Premium lossless audio up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC across most of its catalog. The old claim that Spotify has no lossless option is outdated.
What Apple Music’s lossless tiers provide
Apple lists standard Lossless audio up to 48 kHz and Hi-Res Lossless from 48 kHz to 192 kHz. Higher sample rates and bit depth describe the source format; they do not guarantee that every recording, device, room, or listener will reveal an audible difference.

Apple Support says listeners on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, and Windows can use a wired connection to headphones, a receiver, or powered speakers for lossless playback. On some devices, an external digital-to-analog converter (DAC) may be needed for sample rates above 48 kHz. Wired headphones are the straightforward optional upgrade for anyone trying to evaluate these formats, but buying new equipment is not required to use Apple Music.
Why Bluetooth changes the result
Apple’s support guidance states: “Bluetooth connections aren’t lossless.” Most listed AirPods and Beats products therefore do not deliver Apple Music’s lossless stream as a bit-for-bit lossless signal over ordinary Bluetooth. Apple identifies wired lossless support for the first-generation AirPods Max with USB-C and for AirPods Max 2 when used with a cable and current software and firmware. Check the exact model and connection method rather than assuming that any wireless headphones qualify.

Lossless streaming also uses significantly more mobile data, while lossless downloads consume significantly more storage. If you commute on a limited data plan or keep a large offline library, standard quality may be the more practical setting even when your equipment supports higher resolution.
What Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio adds
Apple Music includes Dolby Atmos content, which is separate from lossless stereo. Atmos tracks use an immersive mix intended for compatible headphones, speakers, receivers, or other playback setups. Availability varies by song, and your reaction will depend on the mix and listening gear; some people hear a convincing sense of space, while others prefer the original stereo master.
Are Apple Music’s editorial playlists better for discovery?
BGR describes Apple Music’s handpicked playlists as a major attraction for listeners who prefer human editorial selection. A Tom’s Guide report by Erin Bashford also praised Apple’s year-by-year genre playlists and described Spotify’s ready-made selections as similar but, in the writer’s view, less granular.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

These are evaluations, not measured rankings. Apple’s editors can be useful when you want a theme, era, scene, or mood chosen by people, while Spotify’s recommendation system may be stronger for users who enjoy algorithmic daily mixes and extensive personalization. Try both services’ playlists around the genres you actually hear; a service that looks better on paper may recommend less accurately for your taste.

Apple now documents a transfer flow inside Apple Music on iPhone, iPad, Android, and the web for supported services. It can match supported songs, albums, and playlists, but matching is not guaranteed. Apple says only playlists you created transfer; editorial playlists and other service-owned collections do not. Availability also varies by region, and Apple says the transfer is provided by a third party.
How to start a transfer
- Open Apple Music on a supported iPhone, iPad, Android device, or in the web player.
- Open your account or profile menu and choose the option labeled Transfer Music from Other Services (wording and availability can vary by region).
- Select Spotify or another supported source service, sign in when prompted, and authorize the transfer provider.
- Choose the songs, albums, and user-created playlists you want to copy, then start the transfer.
- Review the results in Apple Music. Items that cannot be matched may be missing or require manual replacement.
Keep your Spotify account active until you have checked the new library. A transfer copies matches; it does not move ownership, cancel Spotify, or guarantee that every version, live recording, or regional release will be found.
Is Apple Music cheaper than Spotify?
For the United States, BGR compared dated individual-plan prices of $11.99 per month for Apple Music and $12.99 per month for Spotify Premium in 2026. Apple’s own product page currently lists Apple Music Individual at $11.99 per month. That is a one-dollar monthly difference under those prices, not a worldwide rule.
Prices, taxes, currencies, introductory offers, student plans, family plans, and billing channels differ by country. Check the current local prices for equivalent plans before cancelling anything. A small subscription saving may be outweighed by a family member losing a preferred feature or by the cost of replacing downloads and accessories.

Can Apple Music hold my personal music library?
BGR reports that switchers value being able to add their own tracks to Apple Music and sync that personal library across devices. This is useful when a recording is unavailable in the streaming catalog, when you own rare live material, or when you want one library combining streaming albums with locally sourced music.
The available evidence does not establish a universal upload limit or a complete list of supported file formats, so do not assume that every file will sync identically on every device. Keep a separate backup of your original files and verify a few representative tracks on each device before relying on cloud synchronization.
What do former Spotify users miss after switching?
The same BGR accounts that praised Apple Music identified two significant switching costs: recommendations begin without the listening history accumulated in a long-running Spotify account, and some users miss Spotify Connect’s ability to hand playback between devices. Tom’s Guide likewise noted that Spotify’s discovery, social features, and playlist ecosystem can be difficult to replace.
Recommendation history
Apple Music can recommend music immediately, but it does not inherit years of Spotify listening data. Expect an adjustment period while you favorite artists, add albums, and build enough activity for recommendations to reflect your taste. If personalized discovery is your main reason for paying for Spotify, this reset may matter more than interface or price.

Cross-device playback
Spotify Connect is designed for selecting compatible devices and continuing playback from the Spotify app. If your household routinely moves music from a phone to a speaker, computer, or television, list those devices and test Apple Music’s available handoff and casting options before switching. The exact experience depends on the operating systems and hardware you own.

Social and playlist habits
Spotify’s sharing culture, collaborative workflows, and large ecosystem of user-made playlists remain important to some listeners. Apple Music may be a better fit for editorial discovery or a personal library, but that does not automatically replace every social or playlist habit built around Spotify.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which service fits your priorities?
| Priority | Apple Music considerations | Spotify considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Music-focused interface | Some former users report a cleaner screen centered on music. | Broader content and discovery tools may feel busier but more versatile. |
| Spoken-word content | Podcasts and audiobooks are kept outside the Music app. | Premium includes audiobook listening and additional content. |
| Lossless audio | Lossless up to 48 kHz; Hi-Res Lossless from 48 to 192 kHz, with wired or suitable external hardware. | Premium lossless up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC across most of the catalog, according to Spotify’s current documentation. |
| Spatial audio | Dolby Atmos tracks are available where content and playback equipment support them. | Compare the specific spatial formats and devices you use; no universal listening verdict follows from the service name. |
| Playlist migration | Built-in transfer for supported services; matching is incomplete and only user-created playlists transfer. | Retains your existing Spotify history and library without a migration step. |
| US individual price cited for 2026 | $11.99 per month on Apple’s current product page. | $12.99 per month in BGR’s 2026 comparison; verify the current local price. |
| Device continuity | Check handoff and casting support for your particular hardware. | Spotify Connect continuity is a feature some switchers specifically miss. |
How should you decide whether to switch?
Use your actual listening routine rather than a generic “best service” list. An Apple Music trial is most informative when you test the playlists you play every week, your usual headphones or speakers, and the devices between which you move playback.
- Choose Apple Music first if a music-only interface, Apple’s editorial curation, Dolby Atmos catalog, personal-library syncing, or the verified local price is your priority.
- Stay with Spotify first if years of recommendation history, Spotify Connect, social playlists, or a combined music-and-audiobook workflow are central to your routine.
- Test audio before buying equipment because lossless requires a suitable wired path, Bluetooth is not lossless for most listed products, and higher specifications do not guarantee an audible improvement.
- Transfer before cancelling so you can inspect missing matches and confirm that your most important playlists and albums are available.
The seven perks are credible reasons for particular listeners to move, but they do not establish a universal winner. Your devices, catalog preferences, discovery style, and tolerance for rebuilding history should decide the switch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will switching to Apple Music cancel my Spotify subscription automatically?
No. The transfer feature copies supported matches; it does not cancel the source account. Keep Spotify active until you have checked the new library, then cancel it through the billing provider you use.
Can I transfer playlists that I did not create?
Apple says the transfer process moves only playlists you created. Editorial or service-owned playlists generally need to be rebuilt manually in Apple Music.
Do I need a DAC to hear Apple Music lossless?
Not always. Apple says wired connections can provide lossless on supported devices, while a DAC may be needed for sample rates above 48 kHz on certain hardware.
Will Apple Music recommendations immediately match my Spotify recommendations?
No. Your accumulated Spotify listening history does not carry over as recommendation data, so Apple Music needs new favorites, plays, and library activity to personalize suggestions.
