IPVanish announced a broader security offering on October 7, 2026: antivirus for Windows and macOS integrated into its desktop app, alongside three subscription tiers. The update pairs device-level malware protection with the company’s VPN, but the two address different risks—and the antivirus performance figure cited at launch applies to the underlying VIPRE engine, not a direct test of IPVanish Antivirus.
What changed with IPVanish?
IPVanish’s October 7, 2026 announcement introduced its next-generation Antivirus for Windows and macOS, integrated into the desktop app, and a three-tier web subscription lineup. The company also refreshed its brand identity under the tagline “Control your digital world.” The announcement described Antivirus and the Complete plan as available at launch. What does IPVanish Antivirus include?
IPVanish describes a set of device protections intended to work alongside its VPN. The company says Antivirus can run scheduled or on-demand scans, monitor downloads and file changes, and provide real-time anti-ransomware, machine-learning threat detection, anti-exploit protection, behavioral process monitoring, and web and network protection. It also says Antivirus can remain active while the VPN is disconnected. These are vendor-described capabilities; the launch information does not establish independent performance testing of the IPVanish-branded product.
The announcement says existing Threat Protection Pro users receive Antivirus automatically. Because eligibility and rollout terms can change, existing subscribers should check the current IPVanish account and product terms rather than assume that this applies universally today.

How do the new IPVanish plans differ?
TechRadar’s launch-day report described the tiers and prices below. The listed monthly figures are reported launch pricing, not a guarantee of current price: the coverage identifies the Complete price as tied to a two-year plan, while the Essential figure is stated as a starting price. The available sources do not establish the applicable geography, taxes, renewal price, or current promotional terms.

TechRadar’s launch-day plan coverage reported the tier details and prices; IPVanish’s announcement confirms the three-tier lineup but does not include those price figures in the announcement copy. Before subscribing, compare the checkout price, subscription term, renewal amount, and included features for your region.

Does a VPN protect you from malware?
No. A VPN primarily protects the privacy of your internet connection by routing traffic through an encrypted tunnel. It does not, by itself, identify and remove malware on your device or guarantee that a downloaded file is safe. It also cannot make a fake login page legitimate or prevent you from entering your password there.
IPVanish’s consumer cybersecurity general manager, Subbu Sthanu, put the distinction this way: “A VPN was never meant to be the whole answer. It protects your internet connections and privacy, but does not shield you from malicious downloads, fake login pages, and other threats.” Antivirus and VPN features therefore serve complementary roles: one targets threats on or reaching a device, while the other focuses on network privacy.

What does the cited antivirus test result establish?
IPVanish’s launch announcement cites a 99.91% protection rate against 10,000 recent malware samples in an AV-Comparatives test from March 2026. The announcement says the test covered 20 consumer Windows security products and that VIPRE Advanced Security received the lab’s Advanced+ award. It explicitly attributes the result to the underlying VIPRE engine as tested. This is not evidence that AV-Comparatives separately tested the IPVanish Antivirus integration or its performance in the IPVanish app.

- Consider Complete if you want the VPN package plus IPVanish Antivirus for a Windows or macOS desktop. Verify the current subscription terms and device eligibility before purchase.
- Consider Advanced if you also want the reported 1 TB cloud storage and Secure Browser bundle; confirm that both are currently included and available where you live.
The three tiers describe different bundles, not a replacement for checking the exact terms at checkout. In particular, the available launch coverage does not establish an Advanced price, current renewal rates, or universal availability by region.
