Huawei MateBook X Pro: At First Glance

Since Huawei made its gallant entry into the laptop scene, it has become a notable brand in the computer Tech space. It has remained relevant by sticking to its primary formula while still making needed changes and improvements.

However, the design of this new Huawei Matebook X Pro model is a replica of its previous version – that’s okay anyway. After all, replicating excellence and improving it is not such an easy feat.

Apart from that, the Huawei Matebook X Pro has upgraded from its previous version in terms of hardware. Its impressive configuration options help to improve the performance of the laptop considerably well.

Huawei MateBook X Pro: Design, Dimension, and Weight

The Huawei Matebook X Pro is still embodied in the same Mystic Silver aluminum covering (also available in Space Grey) as its previous model. The only glaring difference is the removal of the Huawei logo to accommodate only the name of the company.

With a weight of 1330 g, the Huawei Matebook X Pro isn’t the heaviest laptop you will come across. It measures 304 x 217 x 14.6 mm, making it quite similar to the Apple Macbook Pro in size.

Moreover, almost every aspect of the Huawei Matebook X Pro‘s design is a direct comparison with the Apple Macbook Pro. Aside from its screen dimension, its design reminds you of the Apple Macbook Pro.

The Huawei Matebook X Pro still offers a generous selection of ports considering its build. You get a Thunderbolt 3 port, a USB-C port, a USB-A port, and a headphone jack.

However, the lack of an SD-card reader is a bit disappointing. That aside, it also has a fingerprint sensor you can use to sign in to Windows.

Furthermore, the Huawei Matebook X Pro offers a very comfortable keyboard. Also, it features a sensitive touchpad that is just as large as that of the Apple Macbook Pro.

In conclusion, the Huawei Matebook X Pro scores a 9 in this review for its nearly perfect design.

Huawei MateBook X Pro: Processor (CPU) Performance

The Huawei Matebook X Pro packs incredible power in its delicate look. This is possible thanks to its 8th generation Intel Core processor.

Huawei offers two different configuration options for the Huawei Matebook X Pro. You can either purchase the laptop with an Intel Core i7-8565U processor or the Intel Core i5-8265U.

As expected, the Huawei Matebook X Pro operates quickly and provides plenty of productive performance with any of the above processors. It can handle almost any task you need to complete.

Moreover, Huawei Matebook X Pro is capable of handling both picture and video editing tasks. It has more than enough force to handle everyday computing tasks as well.

Additionally, the Huawei Matebook X Pro scored 5,258 and 16,917 respectively in a single-core and multi-core CPU performance test. Overall, it’s all-round performance is excellent.

It also scored a massive 12,913 on the Geekbench 4 general test, surpassing the 9,930 notebook average.

Based on all the above features and performance achievements, it earns a 9 in this CPU review. The computer achieved this rating for its massive power and high clocking rates.

Huawei MateBook X Pro: Memory (RAM) Performance

The Huawei Matebook X Pro comes with 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM. It supports a maximum size of 16 GB.

The laptop’s 16 GB of RAM fortifies it with sufficient power for multitasking. It ran smoothly with 14 Chrome tabs and a code compilation process in Visual Studio.

Moreover, there were no hiccups nor stutters when scrolling through web pages with this laptop. It also compiled the code in Visual Studio with the required speed.

Generally, the workflow with this computer is very good. However, it overheats and makes excess fan noise when under an excessive workload.

Aside from that, its RAM performance is pretty decent and the laptop should encounter no challenge with regular tasks.

The Huawei Matebook X Pro scores an 8 in this review for its ability to multitask.

Huawei MateBook X Pro: Storage Options and Performance

In terms of storage, the Huawei Matebook X Pro comes with a very fast 512 GB NVMe SSD. You can also get the 1 TB maximum storage.

However, these storage options are very fast regardless of the one you purchase. But obviously, the higher the better.

The data transfer speed in the Huawei Matebook X Pro has received a significant boost. It copied 4.98 GB of mixed media files in 13 seconds at a rate of 401.7 MBps.

The above transfer rates are very good considering that it’s faster than the 279.3 MBps average storage file transfer rate achieved by most laptops Also, the laptop’s storage provides enough space for your pictures, music, videos, and other files.

Finally, the Huawei Matebook X Pro scores a 9 in this review for its excellent storage options and performance.

Huawei MateBook X ProK Graphics Card Performance

The Huawei MateBook X Pro comes with an NVIDIA GeForce MX250 with 2 GB GDDR5. You can also get this laptop with Intel Graphics G20. This NVIDIA graphics card is a major upgrade from the previous NVIDIA GeForce MX150.

Moreover, its NVIDIA graphics card is very unusual in thin laptops. Although this didn’t guarantee a massive graphics performance in the Huawei Matebook X Pro, it is a notable improvement.

Furthermore, the Huawei Matebook X Pro scored a fair point of 44,100 in the GPU Geekbench 4 test. However, this is not so good when compared with the scores of its competitors.

Despite being able to run light games, it simply doesn’t have enough juice to run modern AAA games without tweaking some settings. However, you get a reasonable boost in graphics performance when you play games that are not very graphics-intensive.

Generally, to get the best high-level gaming experience, the closer the game settings is to medium, the better the gaming experience.

In conclusion, the Huawei Matebook X Pro is very suitable for casual gaming. Hence, it does well for a laptop whose primary purpose isn’t gaming and therefore scores an 8 in this graphics card review.

Huawei MateBook X Pro: Battery Life and Performance

The Huawei Matebook X Pro is equipped with a 57.4Wh Lithium Polymer battery. It delivers a satisfactory battery life.

The laptop’s battery life is on par with that of its competitors. It has the capability to last close to a day with seldom charging – meaning you have enough time to work on the go with this laptop after a full charge.

Moreover, on a battery life test, it lasted up to 10 hours with normal mixed usage, Soundcloud music streaming, and web browsing.

Also, its battery life is over an hour longer than the category average runtime which is 8 hours 50 minutes.

The Huawei Matebook X Pro battery life is impressive when you consider its display. Therefore, it scores an 8 in this battery performance review.
