Yes—the HPE–Juniper deal happened. HPE completed its acquisition of Juniper Networks on July 2, 2025, after settling the U.S. Department of Justice’s challenge over competition in enterprise wireless networking. The settlement required HPE to divest its worldwide Instant On campus and branch business and provided a process to license Mist AIOps source code; it did not require HPE to sell Juniper or Mist products.
Did HPE buy Juniper, and when did the deal close?
HPE completed its acquisition of Juniper Networks on July 2, 2025. The earlier headline that HPE’s boss was optimistic the deal “will happen” is now outdated: the transaction is closed.

When the companies announced the agreement on January 9, 2024, they described an all-cash offer of $40 per share, or approximately $14 billion in equity value. That announcement also forecast a late-2024 or early-2025 closing, subject to approvals and other conditions; it was not the actual closing date. HPE’s 2026 SEC filing later described the completed transaction as having approximately $13.4 billion in cash consideration. The announcement’s equity-value figure and the filing’s cash-consideration figure are different transaction measures, not a contradiction.

The dispute was about enterprise-grade wireless local area network (WLAN) equipment and its management—not consumer home routers. The DOJ’s case materials described HPE and Juniper as significant providers and argued that combining them threatened competition in enterprise WLAN. The market described in the government’s filing includes wireless access points, hardware or software used to manage them, and related logistical support.

The DOJ’s Competitive Impact Statement also reported estimates from third-party sources used internally by HPE executives that Cisco, HPE, and Juniper together accounted for over 70 percent of U.S. enterprise-grade wireless access point revenue or North American WLAN revenue. That figure is tied to those specified estimates and market measures; it is not a current share of all Wi-Fi products or an independently verified present-day market statistic.
These were the government’s allegations and reasoning for seeking to block the transaction, not a court finding that every predicted competitive harm occurred. In January 2025, HPE and Juniper publicly opposed the DOJ’s decision to sue, presenting a different view of WLAN competition. Their position should likewise be understood as the companies’ argument, not an independent assessment.

What did the DOJ settlement require—and what did it leave with HPE?
On June 28, 2025, HPE and Juniper announced a settlement with the DOJ, subject to court approval. The DOJ’s July 10, 2025 Federal Register publication set out the proposed judgment and its remedy terms. The settlement used two distinct remedy tracks:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Remedy | What it covered | What it did not mean |
|---|---|---|
| Instant On divestiture | HPE’s worldwide Instant On campus and branch business, including specified tangible and intangible assets. | It was not a divestiture of Juniper Mist. |
| Mist AIOps source-code license | A proposed process to provide a one-time, perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive license to Mist AIOps source code for use in a licensee’s networking products. The terms also addressed possible transition services and employee transfers. | It was not a sale of Juniper, Mist products, or all Mist technology. |
The DOJ remedy document describes the proposed judgment and its terms; it should not be treated by itself as confirmation of every later implementation step. HPE CEO Antonio Neri said the agreement preserved the deal’s “intended benefits” for customers and shareholders while creating greater competition. That was management’s characterization of the settlement and its expected effects, not a measurement of realized customer benefits.

What happened to Juniper Mist and Aruba networking?
HPE’s current HPE Juniper Networking portfolio messaging says customers can access both HPE Juniper Networking and HPE Aruba Networking products through one company. HPE also says it will continue to support and invest in Mist, and that Juniper and Mist products or technologies were not divested. Those statements describe HPE’s stated portfolio direction; they do not independently establish how products perform or how integration is progressing.
For customers, the distinction is practical: the settlement separated HPE’s Instant On campus and branch business and created a licensing process for Mist AIOps source code, while HPE’s portfolio messaging continues to include Juniper Mist and Aruba offerings. The acquisition alone is not evidence that an existing customer must replace equipment.

What should enterprise customers evaluate before choosing WLAN equipment?
The available information does not provide a current like-for-like performance or pricing comparison between Aruba and Juniper Mist. Evaluate the products against the needs of the specific site and deployment rather than treating the acquisition as a product recommendation.
- Coverage and capacity: Compare access-point coverage and capacity against the site layout, client density, and expected workload.
- Management and AIOps: Check the cloud-management and AIOps capabilities included in the specific products and licenses being considered.
- Support and deployment: Confirm support arrangements, deployment requirements, and any integration work relevant to the organization’s existing network.
- Total cost: Compare hardware, licenses, and services together; the sources available here do not establish current comparable prices.
Before changing a live network, ask the vendor or integrator to confirm product support, licensing, and migration requirements for the exact models and deployment. The reviewed materials do not establish a general migration requirement or a standard replacement timetable.

Do the deal’s costs or synergy targets prove it is succeeding?
No. HPE’s filing for the period ended July 31, 2026, recorded $69 million in acquisition costs for the three months and $300 million for the nine months ended that date. These are reported merger-related accounting costs; on their own, they do not show whether integration is succeeding or failing.
The companies’ 2024 announcement projected $450 million in annual run-rate cost synergies within 36 months after closing. That was a forecast, not a verified result. The reviewed sources do not establish that the target has been achieved, nor do they provide an independent, neutral assessment that promised customer benefits have already materialized.
