How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is not currently in the US Netflix catalog. Flixboss records its US removal on January 24, 2026, and the US title page reports that the film is unavailable in the viewer’s country. Netflix catalogs are regional, so a US viewer may find it in another country, including Brazil, by connecting through a VPN server there. That approach is unreliable: Netflix can identify VPN traffic, show only titles licensed worldwide, or require the VPN to be disconnected. Netflix also says VPN connections are unsupported on its ad-supported experience. If the Brazil test fails, US listings checked by JustWatch on September 10, 2026 included subscription channels, library-supported streaming, rentals from $3.99, and DVD or Blu-ray purchase options.
Is How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days on Netflix in the US?
No. As of October 25, 2026, the movie is absent from Netflix US. Flixboss dates the removal to January 24, 2026, while Netflix’s US title page says the film is unavailable in the viewer’s country. Searching repeatedly on a US connection will not restore a title that Netflix has removed from that regional catalog.
The film remains listed in several other Netflix regions. Flixboss identifies Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, India, Israel, Mexico, South Africa and South Korea among the countries carrying it at the time of its check. Those listings can change when licensing contracts expire, so an overseas result is not a permanent promise.

Why does Netflix show different catalogs by country?
Netflix licenses films by territory rather than buying a single worldwide right for every title. Its regional-rights guidance attributes catalog differences to local popularity, multiple rights owners and exclusivity agreements with another platform. A film can therefore be available to Brazilian subscribers while absent for US subscribers using the same app and account type.

A VPN changes the apparent network location of the device. Netflix’s help center explains that a VPN can make the device or network appear to connect from somewhere other than the user’s physical location. Netflix may then apply the catalog associated with that connection, but it also says VPN users may see only programs with worldwide licensing. That fallback is why a Brazilian IP address does not guarantee access to the Brazilian movie catalog.
Can a VPN let a US viewer watch the movie?
It can be worth trying with a Brazil endpoint, but playback is not guaranteed. Netflix detects and blocks many shared or datacenter IP addresses, and the service can react differently by device, app version, server and time of day. A successful connection to Brazil may still produce a limited catalog or a message telling you to turn off the VPN.
The plan matters. Netflix explicitly says VPN connections are unsupported on its ad-supported experience. If your account uses an ad-supported plan, changing servers is unlikely to solve the restriction; use a supported plan or choose a legal US source instead.
What should you prepare before connecting to Brazil?
Have the following ready before you start. Preparation prevents you from confusing a Netflix licensing problem with a VPN or app problem.
- A VPN service that currently offers a Brazil endpoint. Server inventories change, so confirm Brazil is listed in the provider’s app rather than relying on an old tutorial.
- A Netflix plan that is not the ad-supported experience if you intend to test a VPN connection.
- The Netflix app or website on your viewing device, plus the ability to restart it completely after changing networks.
- Both search terms: the English title, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and the Brazilian Portuguese title, Como Perder um Homem em 10 Dias.
- A fallback method in the United States, such as a rental, library service or physical disc, in case Netflix refuses the connection.
How do I try the Brazil Netflix catalog with a VPN?
Follow these steps in order. They test the network location first, then Netflix’s catalog response.

- Install and sign in to the VPN app. Use the provider’s official app for your device and complete any required system permission prompts. Do not assume that a browser extension protects a separate smart-TV or streaming-stick app.
- Select Brazil. Open the location list and choose a Brazil server. If the provider labels a server for streaming, you may try that option, but the label is a provider claim rather than a Netflix guarantee.
- Confirm the connection. Wait until the app reports that the tunnel is active. If the app displays several Brazil locations, note which one you used so you can switch deliberately if Netflix rejects it.
- Fully restart Netflix. Close the mobile or desktop app, force-quit it on a TV device, or sign out and reopen the browser. A page left open from the previous US connection can retain the old catalog.
- Search both titles. Look for How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days first, then search Como Perder um Homem em 10 Dias. Open the result and check that the cast and poster identify the 2003 comedy starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey.
- Test playback briefly. If the title appears, start it and confirm that video actually begins. A search result alone does not prove that the current server can stream it.
- Stop if Netflix reports a VPN restriction. Netflix may display only globally licensed titles or ask you to disable the VPN. Record the message, disconnect, and proceed to troubleshooting or a US-licensed alternative rather than repeatedly refreshing the same session.
What if the movie does not appear after connecting to Brazil?
Work through one change at a time so you can identify the cause.
Try another Brazil endpoint
Disconnect from the current server and choose a different Brazil location in the same app. Shared IP addresses can be flagged unevenly, so one endpoint may fail while another presents a different catalog. Restart Netflix after every server change.

Check the title and region behavior
Search the Portuguese title as well as the English title. If Netflix shows only globally licensed programs, the service has recognized the VPN or cannot apply the full Brazilian catalog; changing the search language will not override that limitation.
Clear stale sessions
Close every Netflix tab and app on the device, then reopen it after the VPN connection is active. On a television or streaming stick, a full app force-quit or device restart may be necessary. Avoid switching between US and Brazil connections while the same playback session remains open.
Check the plan restriction
Ad-supported Netflix plans do not support VPN connections according to Netflix. If that is your plan, stop troubleshooting the server and use a non-VPN source or a Netflix experience that Netflix supports.
Use Netflix’s own location guidance
Netflix’s help information says that you may need to turn off a VPN to see shows and movies available in your region. If disconnecting restores your normal US catalog but the film is still absent, that confirms the title is not licensed in Netflix US rather than indicating a device fault.
Which VPN options have Brazil servers?
A title-specific guide examined Private Internet Access, ExpressVPN and NordVPN. The details below are provider capabilities reported by that secondary guide, not independent guarantees of Netflix access. Recheck the current app, server list and partner terms before subscribing.
| Provider | Brazil endpoint information reported by the guide | Streaming-oriented features mentioned | Protocol or app notes | Current verified partner-program status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private Internet Access | Brazil endpoint listed. | “BR Streaming Optimized” option reported. | Exact protocol behavior was not established in the available evidence; use the current app defaults and documentation. | Not stated in the available evidence. |
| ExpressVPN | Brazil entries reported in the location list. | No Netflix-access guarantee; streaming suitability is a provider claim to recheck. | Exact protocol or device behavior was not established in the available evidence. | Not stated in the available evidence. |
| NordVPN | Brazil and São Paulo support reported. | SmartPlay mentioned by the guide. | SmartPlay behavior and protocol availability can vary by app and version; verify before use. | Not stated in the available evidence. |
Do not choose among these services on the assumption that a particular server will always unlock the film. Netflix can blacklist an address after a provider’s server list was published, and the catalog itself can change independently of the VPN.
What legal US options are available if Netflix fails?
JustWatch’s US listing checked September 10, 2026 showed several lawful ways to watch the film without changing your apparent location.
| Route | What the listing showed | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription streaming | Paramount+ channels and Amazon Prime Video listings. | Whether the title is included in your specific channel or subscription at the time you watch. |
| Library streaming | Kanopy and Hoopla listed as free options. | You need an eligible participating library account; availability is determined by that library’s collection and lending limits. |
| Digital rental | Rentals starting at $3.99 in the dated listing. | The displayed price is a snapshot and can change by store, device and date. |
| Digital purchase | Purchase listings were available. | Confirm whether the purchase includes HD, subtitles, downloads or only streaming rights. |
| Physical media | DVD and Blu-ray purchase options were listed. | Check disc region, playback equipment and shipping before ordering. |
These routes avoid the uncertainty of VPN detection. A library stream can be the lowest-cost option when you have a participating card, while a disc is useful if streaming rights change frequently.

Which movie is the Netflix listing supposed to be?
The target is Paramount’s 2003 PG-13 romantic comedy directed by Donald Petrie and starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. Confirming the cast helps avoid similarly titled results or unrelated clips when searching a foreign catalog.
Runtime references differ by source. JustWatch lists 116 minutes, while Paramount’s page lists 118 minutes. Treat those as source-specific listings rather than evidence of two different films; edits, credits and regional presentations can account for a small difference.
Is using a VPN the best way to watch it?
For a US viewer who already has a VPN and a supported Netflix plan, a short Brazil test is reasonable. It costs no additional rental fee, but it may fail because of VPN detection, the ad-supported restriction or a licensing change. It is not a dependable replacement for a US streaming listing.
Choose a legal US route first when you need guaranteed access for a scheduled viewing, when you use Netflix’s ad-supported plan, or when repeated server changes become more time-consuming than a $3.99 rental. Choose the VPN experiment only when you accept that the catalog may remain unavailable and you can switch to a fallback without losing money.
Common mistakes that prevent playback
- Searching only the English title: the Brazilian listing may use Como Perder um Homem em 10 Dias.
- Leaving Netflix open during the location change: the app can retain the previous regional session until it is fully restarted.
- Assuming an IP address equals a catalog: Netflix can identify VPN traffic and limit results to worldwide-licensed titles.
- Testing on an ad-supported plan: Netflix says VPN connections are unsupported there.
- Confusing a title page with playable access: always start the film and verify that playback begins.
- Relying on an old server recommendation: Brazil endpoints and Netflix’s detection rules change, so recheck current availability in the app.
- Ignoring the fallback: keep the JustWatch-listed subscription, library, rental or disc options available if the VPN test fails.
How should I interpret a Netflix error message?
A message that asks you to turn off the VPN generally means Netflix has detected the connection or is applying its regional policy. Disconnecting should return the device to its ordinary US catalog, but it will not add this film to Netflix US.
If the film appears but playback fails, test one other Brazil endpoint and restart the app once. Continued failure after that points to VPN detection, a plan limitation or a changed license rather than a missing search term. Use a US source when the error persists.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will changing my Netflix profile language unlock the Brazilian catalog?
No. Language settings can affect menus and search presentation, but Netflix applies catalog rights by region and connection. Searching the Portuguese title is useful only after Netflix is actually presenting the Brazilian catalog.
Do I need a separate Brazilian Netflix account?
The location test described here uses an existing Netflix account; the decisive variables are the connection, plan type and Netflix’s licensing response. Creating another profile does not bypass VPN detection or add a title to Netflix US.

JustWatch listed both services as free options in its September 10, 2026 US snapshot. Access still depends on having a card from a participating library, and each library controls its own catalog and borrowing limits.
Why do two listings show different runtimes for the same film?
JustWatch lists 116 minutes, while Paramount lists 118 minutes. Small differences can reflect regional edits, credit timing or listing conventions; the cast, director and 2003 release identify the movie.
