The least confusing way to watch Street Fighter on screen is release order, not an invented shared timeline. Start with Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie (1994), continue through the separate anime, live-action, promotional and motion-comic projects, and finish with the live-action film listed by Capcom for October 16, 2026. Most entries are stand-alone interpretations; only Street Fighter: Legacy, Assassin’s Fist and Resurrection form a recognizable licensed live-action thread.

This guide lists all 14 productions identified in the release record, explains what continuity each uses, separates essential viewing from collector material, and shows how to check current streaming or physical-media availability without assuming that a listing in one country applies elsewhere.

Street Fighter movies and series in release order

Use this order for a first watch. It preserves how the adaptations appeared to audiences and prevents you from treating unrelated versions of Ryu, Ken, Guile, Chun-Li and M. Bison as if they occupied one chronology.

What to expect from every entry

1. Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie (1994)

This Japanese animated feature is the strongest starting point for viewers who want the franchise’s iconic game characters in a feature-length story. It follows the World Warriors as they confront M. Bison and Shadowlaw. The United States dub arrived in 1995, so American viewers may encounter either the original Japanese version or that later dub depending on the edition.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Its position at the top of the list is practical rather than a claim that every later production follows its events. The film establishes the visual language, tournament energy and villain-centered conflict that many viewers associate with Street Fighter animation.

2. Street Fighter (1994)

Jean-Claude Van Damme plays Colonel Guile and Raul Julia plays M. Bison in a separate live-action interpretation. The film does not continue the animated movie’s storyline, and its military-action approach gives the characters different relationships and priorities. Watch it immediately after the animated feature if you want to compare two 1994 visions of the same game roster.

3. Street Fighter II: V (1995)

This 29-episode anime series follows Ryu and Ken before their conflict with M. Bison and Shadowlaw. Its length allows more room for travel, training and the gradual development of the two fighters than a feature can provide. It is its own anime continuity, not a sequel to the 1994 animated movie.

4. Street Fighter: The Animated Series (1995)

The 26-episode American series centers on Guile’s military organization. It is separate from Street Fighter II: V, despite the shared year, characters and broad conflict with Shadowlaw. Place it after Street Fighter II: V in release order, but do not try to merge their episode events or character histories.

5. Street Fighter Alpha: The Movie (1999)

This anime feature uses an Alpha-era premise and a younger Ryu. The guide identifies it as non-canon to the game storyline, so it works best as an alternate interpretation rather than a missing chapter in the games’ chronology. Its appeal is the early-career version of Ryu and the different emphasis that the Alpha setting brings.

6. Street Fighter Alpha: Generations (2005)

This stand-alone animated feature was made for the United States market. Its central conflict involves Ryu, Akuma (Gouki) and the destructive force known as the Satsui no Hado. It does not require Street Fighter: The Animated Series or the earlier Alpha film, and it should not be used to reconcile the two.

7. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009)

Kristin Kreuk leads this separate live-action origin story for Chun-Li. It concentrates on her personal history and path toward confronting criminal power rather than attempting to adapt the full ensemble of the games. Treat it as a self-contained live-action reboot, not as a bridge between the 1994 film and later licensed projects.

8. Street Fighter IV: The Ties That Bind (2009)

This animated feature was produced as a promotional companion to Street Fighter IV. Its story follows Cammy’s Delta Red unit, Guile, Chun-Li, Crimson Viper and Ryu. Because it was designed to support a game release, it is most useful to viewers interested in the Street Fighter IV era and its character lineup, rather than to anyone seeking a universal film continuity.

9. Street Fighter: Round One: FIGHT! (2009)

This is an animated comic or motion-comic adaptation of UDON material, not a conventional animated film. Its panel-based presentation makes it a format outlier in the list. Watch it for the comic interpretation and adaptation history; do not expect the pacing, animation pipeline or continuity logic of a theatrical feature or television anime.

10. Super Street Fighter IV OVA (2010)

The Juri-focused OVA was released as downloadable promotional material for Super Street Fighter IV. It is short-form game marketing fiction rather than a required sequel to The Ties That Bind. Its natural audience is anyone exploring Juri’s introduction and the promotional animation attached to the Super Street Fighter IV launch.

11. Street Fighter: Legacy (2010)

Legacy is a licensed short-film proof of concept created by Joey Ansah and Capcom. The Street Fighter: The Live-Action Trilogy site recorded more than 18 million YouTube views for the listing in its 2010-era material. The short is important because it demonstrates the grounded martial-arts direction that would be expanded in the later licensed series, but its proof-of-concept scale means it is not a feature-length replacement for those productions.

12. Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist (2014)

This licensed live-action production is the central event of the modern live-action thread. It consists of 12 episodes plus a secret 13th episode and traces Ryu and Ken’s Ansatsuken training alongside Gōki’s history. The focus on martial-arts instruction, relationships and the consequences of the fighting style gives it a different tone from the 1994 film’s military adventure.

Watch all 12 regular episodes before seeking the secret 13th episode. The additional episode is part of the production’s release history, but its availability and presentation can vary by platform or edition.

13. Street Fighter: Resurrection (2016)

This licensed live-action follow-up was produced to support Street Fighter V and the go90 platform. Ryu, Ken and Charlie Nash investigate an arms operation linked to Shadaloo. It follows the licensed live-action approach established by Assassin’s Fist, so it is the one entry that benefits most from being watched immediately after that series.

14. Street Fighter (2026 live-action film)

Capcom’s September 5, 2025 announcement said filming had commenced with Legendary Entertainment and listed October 16, 2026 as the release date. The announced principal cast was Noah Centineo as Ken, Andrew Koji as Ryu and Callina Liang as Chun-Li. That announcement establishes the production and listed date; it does not establish that every territory received the film on the same day or that it shares continuity with Assassin’s Fist. Do these movies and series share one timeline?

No. The adaptations fall into separate continuities and formats. Release order is therefore a viewing convenience, not an in-universe chronology.

Continuity or purpose Entries How to use it
Stand-alone interpretation Street Fighter (1994), The Legend of Chun-Li, Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, Street Fighter II: V, Street Fighter: The Animated Series, Street Fighter Alpha: The Movie, Street Fighter Alpha: Generations Enjoy each on its own terms; do not force character histories or event order to line up.
Game-promotion animation The Ties That Bind, Super Street Fighter IV OVA Best for viewers following the character and story context of the corresponding game releases.
Motion-comic adaptation Round One: FIGHT! Approach it as an animated presentation of UDON comic material, not as a standard film.
Licensed live-action thread Legacy, Assassin’s Fist, Resurrection Watch in that order when you want the closest thing to a connected modern live-action storyline.
New live-action film Street Fighter (2026) Wait for its own confirmed release information and treat continuity as unconfirmed unless the producers state otherwise.

Another useful comparison is format. The list includes Japanese anime, an American animated television series, a downloadable OVA, a motion comic, licensed live action and a feature film. A shared character name does not mean a shared production universe.

What should you watch if you only have a few hours?

For a short sampler, watch Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie first, then Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist. The animated feature is the clearest showcase for the franchise’s iconic World Warriors and M. Bison conflict; Assassin’s Fist is the main event of the licensed live-action story and gives Ryu and Ken’s training substantial room to develop.

Add the 1994 live-action Street Fighter if you enjoy 1990s action-film camp, star performances and a deliberately different interpretation of Guile and Bison. You can skip the Chun-Li origin film, both Alpha features, the motion comic and the game-promotion OVAs on a first pass. Those entries are most valuable to franchise collectors, game-lore completists or viewers specifically interested in their format and featured characters.

JustWatch’s United States check on October 18, 2026 covered 374 services. That check listed Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie for purchase on Blu-ray and DVD, while other entries showed different combinations of rental, purchase or no streaming availability. Use a country-specific search and confirm the result immediately before paying; availability can change between the search date and your viewing date.

Choosing a physical edition

  • For the 1994 animated film, a Blu-ray or DVD is the most reliable fallback when subscription streaming is unavailable.
  • Check whether an edition contains the Japanese audio, the U.S. dub, subtitles and the cut you want; the U.S. dub arrived in 1995, so language options differ by release.
  • For short promotional works such as the OVA and Legacy, verify that the listing is an authorized release or official upload rather than an unlabeled re-edit.
  • For Assassin’s Fist, confirm whether the package includes all 12 regular episodes and information about the secret 13th episode.

Checking digital listings

  1. Set the country in your streaming or digital-store account before searching.
  2. Search the exact title, including the year, because similarly named films and game trailers can appear together.
  3. Open the title details and verify whether the option is streaming, rental or purchase; a search result alone does not show the terms.
  4. Check the episode count for series and the audio/subtitle languages for anime.
  5. Recheck the expiry or rental window before starting, especially for a one-night marathon.

Why this screen catalog matters

Street Fighter’s game series had shipped more than 49 million units worldwide cumulatively as of December 31, 2022, according to Capcom’s 2023 figures. The screen adaptations reflect that long-running popularity but were made for different commercial and creative purposes: theatrical entertainment, syndicated television, game promotion, comic adaptation and fan-oriented licensed production.

Capcom announced on April 5, 2023 that it would jointly produce a live-action film and a television series based on Street Fighter with Legendary Entertainment. The September 5, 2025 update confirmed that filming on the live-action film had commenced and repeated the October 16, 2026 listed release date. Legendary’s release material also described more than $21 billion in associated global box-office revenue, a figure referring to the broader properties cited in that announcement rather than a guaranteed total for this Street Fighter film.

Those figures explain why new projects keep appearing, but they do not turn the older adaptations into chapters of one canon. The most useful way to navigate them remains the combination of release order, format and continuity.

A practical viewing plan

Plan A: the essential two-title sampler

  1. Watch Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie.
  2. Watch Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, including its regular episodes and then the secret 13th episode if you can locate an authorized version.

Plan B: the connected live-action route

  1. Watch Street Fighter: Legacy as the short proof of concept.
  2. Continue with all 12 regular episodes of Assassin’s Fist.
  3. Watch the secret 13th episode.
  4. Finish with Resurrection.

Plan C: the complete release-history marathon

Follow the 14-item table from 1994 through the 2026 film. Keep a note beside each title indicating whether it is anime, American animation, live action, OVA or motion comic. That simple label prevents the common mistake of assuming that a change in visual style represents a sequel.

Common ordering mistakes

  • Putting Assassin’s Fist directly after the 1994 film as a sequel: they are separate interpretations, although Assassin’s Fist and Resurrection do form a licensed thread.
  • Combining the two 1995 animated series: Street Fighter II: V and Street Fighter: The Animated Series have different continuities and focal characters.
  • Treating every animated title as anime: Round One: FIGHT! is a motion comic, and the 26-episode animated series is an American production.
  • Assuming promotional animation is optional because it is short: the OVAs and The Ties That Bind are not required for a general watch, but they matter if your goal is the story material attached to the corresponding games.
  • Assuming the 2026 film’s continuity: the announced release information confirms production, cast and a listed date, not a connection to any earlier adaptation.
