Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Install Distill Web Monitor from Microsoft Edge Add-ons, open the page you want to track, then use Distill’s toolbar button to monitor the full page or select a specific area. Choose a checking device and schedule, add alert actions if needed, and save. The key choice is whether checks run locally in Edge or on Distill’s cloud: local checks need your browser and device available; cloud checks can continue when they are off.
Install Distill Web Monitor in Microsoft Edge
- Open Distill’s Web Monitor page and follow its “Add To Edge” link to Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
- Install the extension from the Edge store and open the webpage you want to monitor.
- Open Edge’s Extensions control and pin or open Distill so its droplet icon is easy to access.
Distill’s documented Chrome-extension setup says the same workflow applies to Edge. Its supported platforms page also lists Edge as a supported browser.
Create a monitor and choose what to watch
- With the target webpage open, select the Distill droplet icon.
- Choose Monitor full page to track the whole page, or Monitor parts of page to track one region or element.
- For a partial monitor, select the area in the visual selector, inspect the preview to make sure it contains the content you care about, and save the selection.
- In the monitor options, choose the device, give the monitor a useful name if desired, and set the checking schedule.
- Add alert actions if you want notifications, then save. The monitor appears in your Watchlist.
Partial monitoring is useful when unrelated content changes frequently. For example, you can select a product price rather than monitor every element on a long page. Distill’s extension setup guide covers these choices and notes that its instructions apply to Edge.
Choose local Edge checks or cloud checks
| Detail | Local Edge extension monitor | Cloud monitor |
|---|---|---|
| Where checks run | In the browser on your device | On Distill’s servers |
| Must your device or browser be running? | Yes | No; checks can continue while your computer is off or the browser is closed |
| Published minimum interval | 5 seconds for browser add-on monitoring | 2 minutes for the Web App on the Flexi plan |
| Resource accounting | Extension checks are described as unlimited | Cloud checks count against plan resources and are limited by plan |
These intervals and resource descriptions are Distill’s published figures on its platform comparison and local-versus-cloud documentation; they can change. The two-minute figure is specifically stated for the Web App on the Flexi plan, not as a universal cloud minimum.

Use a local monitor when you want browser-based checks and can leave the device available. Use a cloud monitor when checking should continue while you are away or your computer is off, and account for the plan’s cloud-check allowance.
Set notifications and understand plan limits
Distill supports alert actions, but available methods depend on the subscription plan. Its extension guide says email and SMS alerts require signing in and adding account details. Check the current Distill pricing page before relying on a particular alert type or quota.

As listed on that page when accessed on October 3, 2026, the free tier included 1,000 cloud checks per month, two devices, 30 email alerts per month (email only), and 100 browser push notifications per month. These are vendor-stated plan quantities, not independent benchmarks, and may change. Distill distinguishes its unlimited extension checks from metered cloud checks.
Troubleshoot missed or unreliable changes
The monitor does not run when Edge is closed
An extension-created monitor runs locally by default, so Edge and the device need to remain available for local checks. If checks must continue while the computer is off or Edge is closed, use a cloud monitor.

The page is dynamic or does not load in the background
Distill says background checking is best suited to static pages and does not work for pages with dynamic content. Its guide describes using a tab, window, or sticky window as alternatives; it also points to the Distill Desktop App for pages that do not show content in an inactive tab. Distill labels its desktop apps public beta, so treat that app as a beta option rather than a stable Edge feature. Page behavior depends on how the site is built, so verify the selected content and inspect the check log after setup.
The wrong part of the page triggers alerts
Edit the monitor’s selected region and use the preview to confirm it covers only the relevant text or element. If you intended to track the whole page, recreate it with Monitor full page rather than a partial selection.
An alert action is unavailable
Confirm that you are signed in and have added the account details required for that notification method. Alert types and limits vary by plan, so check Distill’s live pricing information rather than assuming every action is included.
