To change the mobile number on your Amazon customer account, sign in and go to Your Account > Login & security. If Two-Step Verification (2SV) is enabled, review its enrolled phone number separately in the 2SV settings. Keep a working sign-in route and another 2SV method available before the old number stops working.
Before changing your Amazon phone number
Make sure you can still sign in before you remove access to the old number. Amazon accounts may use a password, a one-time code, or a passkey, so the prompts you see can vary. Keep any usable passkey or trusted device available while you update your details. For help understanding sign-in options, see Amazon’s Why Can’t I Sign into My Account?
If you use 2SV, have another registered method ready before the old number becomes unavailable. Amazon recommends adding a backup method where available; an authenticator app can generate codes without a cell signal.
Change the mobile number on your Amazon customer account
- Sign in to Amazon.
- Open Your Account > Login & security.
- Find the mobile-number entry and select its edit control.
- Enter the new number and follow the on-screen verification prompts.
Amazon identifies Login & security as the place to edit the account mobile number. Exact labels and prompts may vary, so follow the current account page. Amazon describes Your Account as the place to access personal information and order details in its Support Options and Customer Service help page.

Check your Two-Step Verification number separately
The mobile number saved as account contact information is not necessarily the number that receives 2SV codes. In Your Account > Login & security, open the Two-Step Verification settings and review the enrolled methods. From there, Amazon says you can add or remove a phone number and add an authenticator app. Change or verify the 2SV method separately rather than assuming the account mobile-number edit changed it. Amazon’s Two-Step Verification guidance covers managing those methods.
Amazon KDP also notes that a KDP account phone number and the phone number used for 2SV on the Amazon customer account can differ. That distinction applies in the KDP context; updating a KDP profile number is not the same as changing the Amazon customer-account or 2SV number. See Manage Your KDP Account.

If you cannot receive an Amazon verification code
- At the 2SV prompt, try another registered backup method, or try signing in from a trusted device.
- If neither works, select Didn’t Receive the Code, then choose Two-Step Verification Account Recovery.
- Follow Amazon’s identity-verification steps. After you regain access, manage your 2SV methods at Your Account > Login & security.
Amazon documents this route in Recover Your Account after Two-Step Verification Fails. Recovery requires identity verification; Amazon’s guidance does not promise a specific completion time or a guaranteed outcome.

If you can sign in but cannot update the number, or the recovery steps do not resolve the issue, use Amazon’s Customer Service page and choose the issue that matches your situation. Amazon lists self-service, phone, chat, and email support options there; use the contact choices shown on the page rather than relying on an unverified number.
