To take and save a screenshot of your entire screen in Windows 10 or Windows 11, press the Windows logo key + PrtScn at the same time. To find the image, open File Explorer > Pictures > Screenshots. If your keyboard has no PrtScn key, Microsoft lists Fn + Windows logo key + Space Bar as an alternative for that hardware.
Take and find a full-screen screenshot
- Arrange the screen as you want it to appear in the image.
- Press the Windows logo key and PrtScn together. The key may instead be labeled Print Screen or with a similar abbreviation. If Print Screen is on a secondary key layer, use the Fn behavior specified for your keyboard.
- Open File Explorer, open Pictures, then open Screenshots. Look for the new image there.
This is the full-screen shortcut documented for Windows 10 and Windows 11. It saves an image file; it is not the same workflow as a Print Screen shortcut that copies an image to the clipboard. Microsoft Support documents the shortcut and folder location.
If your keyboard has no PrtScn key
Microsoft lists Fn + Windows logo key + Space Bar for devices without a PrtScn button. Key labels and Fn behavior vary by hardware, so that combination is not guaranteed to work on every keyboard. Check the key legends and your device’s instructions if it does not respond.
Choose the shortcut that matches what you need

The clipboard methods do not mean a screenshot file has already been saved in the Screenshots folder. Paste the capture where you need it, or use the Snipping Tool workflow to edit and save it. Troubleshoot a missing screenshot
You pressed the keys but cannot find a file
Check File Explorer > Pictures > Screenshots first. The folder path or handling may be customized on an individual PC, so if that folder is absent or the image is not there, check how Pictures is configured on your device. Also confirm that you used Windows + PrtScn, rather than a clipboard-first shortcut such as Print Screen or Windows + Shift + S.
Your keyboard does not appear to have a Print Screen key
Look for a shortened label such as PrtScn or a secondary Print Screen marking on another key. If the key is on an Fn layer, use the device’s Fn combination. For hardware without a PrtScn button, Microsoft lists Fn + Windows logo key + Space Bar; its availability depends on the device.

You need a region, an active window, or an editable capture
Use Windows + Shift + S for a selected region, or open Snipping Tool when you want its capture modes and editing-and-saving workflow. Use Alt + Print Screen when the active window is what you need and a clipboard capture is suitable.
