To host Create on Minecraft 1.18.2, install a 1.18.2 Forge server with Java 17 or newer, accept the server EULA, place a Forge-compatible Create 0.5.1 jar in the server’s mods folder, and connect with a 1.18.2 Forge client using the identical Create build. The manual setup is usually estimated at 20–30 minutes. Version selection needs care because one CurseForge listing contains a Forge-version conflict and Flywheel requirements differ between sources.
What this setup creates
This procedure builds a self-hosted dedicated server for Minecraft Java Edition 1.18.2. Minecraft Forge loads the mod, while Create adds its machines and mechanics. The server and every connecting player must use Minecraft 1.18.2, a compatible Forge installation, and the same Create release. A client running another Minecraft version, another mod loader, or another Create build is not an equivalent installation.
The guide below follows the 0.5.1 release line. Modrinth lists a build numbered 1.18.2-0.5.1.i. CurseForge lists file 5797603 as Create 1.18.2 v0.5.1i. Select a file explicitly marked for Minecraft 1.18.2 and Forge; do not select a 1.20.1 or NeoForge download by mistake.
Requirements and decisions before installing
Java runtime
The setup guide used for this procedure specifies Java 17 or newer for modern Minecraft releases. Verify the runtime that your server will actually use from a terminal or command prompt:

java -versionRead the reported major version before running the installer or launch command. If the command is missing or reports an older runtime, install a supported Java 17-or-newer runtime and make sure the shell resolves that installation. Older Minecraft versions may use Java 8, but that is not the runtime guidance for this 1.18.2 server.
A server folder
Create or choose an empty directory dedicated to the server. The Forge installer writes libraries, launch files, configuration files and the world into this location. Keeping the server separate from other Minecraft installations makes it easier to identify the correct mods folder and the correct Forge jar.

The setup guide’s example allocates 4 GB initially and permits up to 8 GB:
java -Xms4G -Xmx8G -jar forge-*.jar noguiThe asterisk represents the Forge jar name produced by the installer. If your command shell does not expand a wildcard in that position, replace forge-*.jar with the exact filename in the server directory. These values are example allocations, not a measured requirement for every world; leave enough memory for the operating system and other applications.

One CurseForge 1.18.2 listing displays a minimum Forge version of 47.1.43. Forge 47.x belongs to Minecraft 1.20.1, so that number conflicts with the 1.18.2 target and with reports referring to Forge 40.x. Treat 47.1.43 as a listing error rather than automatically installing it for this server. Select Forge by the Minecraft version shown by the installer and verify the result in the server log.
Install the Forge server
1. Download the 1.18.2 Forge installer
Open the Forge downloads site at files.minecraftforge.net, select Minecraft 1.18.2, and download the installer for that version. Check the filename and download page before opening it; a Forge installer for another Minecraft release will create a different server environment.
2. Run the installer in server mode
- Open the downloaded Forge installer.
- Choose the option to install a server.
- Point the installer at the empty server folder you prepared.
- Allow it to download the required libraries and finish writing the launch files.
Do not place the installer in an existing modpack directory and assume that directory is the new server. The destination is the directory in which you will later see the Forge jar, eula.txt, mods and other server files.
3. Start once to generate files
From the server directory, run the Forge launch command. Use the exact jar name generated by your installer if the wildcard form is not accepted:

java -Xms4G -Xmx8G -jar forge-*.jar noguiThe first run normally creates initial files and stops because the Minecraft EULA has not been accepted. That stop is expected; it is not evidence that Forge or Create failed.
4. Accept the EULA
- Open
eula.txtin the server folder. - Change the line
eula=falsetoeula=true. - Save the file without changing its name.
- Run the same Forge launch command again.
Only accept the EULA after reading the terms that accompany your Minecraft server installation. If the server reports the EULA error again, check that the file was saved in the same directory from which you launch Forge and that the value is exactly true.

1. Obtain the matching Create jar
Use the Modrinth version labeled 1.18.2-0.5.1.i or the CurseForge file identified as 5797603, titled Create 1.18.2 v0.5.1i. Confirm that the download is a Forge build for Minecraft 1.18.2. A file for Minecraft 1.20.1, a NeoForge file, or a similarly named release for another game version will not satisfy this setup.
2. Place the jar in the server’s mods folder
- Stop the server if it is running.
- Open the server directory created by Forge.
- Open the
modsfolder. If Forge did not create it, create a folder named exactlymods. - Copy the selected Create jar into that folder.
- Leave the jar as a jar file; do not extract its contents.
Keep only the files you intentionally selected while diagnosing the first launch. This makes a missing dependency or an incompatible version easier to identify from the startup message.

3. Start and watch the load
Run the Forge command again and wait for the server to complete mod loading. The first successful launch may take longer while Forge builds its caches and generates the world. Do not attempt to connect until the server has finished loading and is accepting connections. If it stops, read the first clear error naming a mod, dependency or Minecraft version instead of repeatedly restarting it.
Prepare each player’s 1.18.2 client
- Install a Minecraft 1.18.2 Forge client profile.
- Use the same Create build placed on the server: 1.18.2-0.5.1.i or the corresponding 0.5.1i file.
- Place the Create jar in that client’s
modsfolder. - Launch the 1.18.2 Forge profile, not a vanilla, Fabric, NeoForge or different-version profile.
- Connect only after the server has completed its Forge and Create startup.
The client and server do not merely need “Create 0.5.1” in a general sense; use the same specific build wherever possible. If the server has file 5797603 and the client has a different 0.5.1 patch, replace one so both sides report the same version during loading.

Flywheel is Create’s rendering library, and its packaging status is the most ambiguous part of this 1.18.2 setup. The Create CurseForge page states that, from Create 0.5.1 onward, Flywheel no longer needs to be installed separately. However, Apex Hosting’s guidance says older Create builds on Forge 1.18.2 or lower need Flywheel as a separate mod. A GitHub issue numbered #5893 describes a 1.18.2 Create installation that requests a Flywheel version that does not exist.
Because those statements do not establish one universal rule for every 0.5.1 jar, inspect the exact file you downloaded and its release description before adding a second Flywheel jar. If the Create jar bundles the library or explicitly says no separate installation is required, do not add another copy. If the startup crash names a particular Flywheel version, use that message as the condition to investigate and install the named compatible version only when it is available for Minecraft 1.18.2 and Forge. Do not download a Flywheel build for another Minecraft version simply because its name looks close.

Troubleshooting by symptom

How to confirm a clean installation
Use this checklist after the server starts:
- The server directory contains the Forge files generated for Minecraft 1.18.2.
java -versionreports Java 17 or newer.eula.txtcontainseula=true.- The server’s
modsfolder contains the intended Create 1.18.2 0.5.1 jar. - No accidental 1.20.1, NeoForge or unrelated Create file remains in that folder.
- The startup output completes Forge and Create loading without a dependency crash.
- Every player uses a 1.18.2 Forge client with the same Create build.
If all seven checks pass, connect using the server address appropriate to your hosting arrangement. The exact address and networking method depend on where you run the self-hosted process; they are separate from the Forge and Create installation steps documented here.
Time expectations and alternatives
The manual process is estimated at approximately 20–30 minutes when Java and the required downloads are available. Most of that time is spent downloading Forge libraries, accepting the EULA, selecting the right Create file and waiting for the first modded startup.

Some Minecraft hosting services provide one-click Forge installers. That option can skip the manual installer and folder creation, but you still need to select Minecraft 1.18.2, add the matching Create 0.5.1 Forge file, and ensure that player clients use the same versions. A one-click installation does not remove the version conflict around the 47.1.43 listing or the need to investigate Flywheel errors from the actual Create jar.
