G-Shock button sequences and features vary by module. The steps below use Module 3561 as a worked example; use your own module’s guide if its controls or displays differ.
Find your G-Shock module number first
“G-Shock” is a watch family, not one control layout. The module number identifies the movement and the relevant operating instructions. Before pressing buttons, compare your watch’s caseback number and button labels with the matching Casio guide. Pay particular attention to how the watch enters a setting screen, how long a button must be held, how alarms work, and whether World Time is selected by city code or time-zone offset.
The following worked example is for Module 3561. Differences documented for other modules are called out where they affect the instructions.
Set the time and date
Module 3561
- Enter Timekeeping Mode.
- Hold A until the setting display appears.
- Press C to move through the flashing fields. Use B or D to change the selected value. Continue through the time and date fields.
- Press A to finish.
On Module 3561, holding B or D scrolls values quickly. The watch exits the setting operation after roughly two or three minutes without input. Its 12-hour display indicates AM or PM, so check the indicator when setting a morning or afternoon time.

Check the Home City on other modules
On modules that link Timekeeping and World Time, choose the correct Home City before setting the time and date. Casio says the two mode displays are linked on Module 3287. Module 5413 uses a different procedure: hold A for about two seconds, rotate the switch to select the Home City time-zone offset, optionally press C and rotate to set summer time on or off, then press A to exit. Casio warns that choosing the wrong time zone makes World Time incorrect. See the Module 3287 guide or Module 5413 guide for the model-specific steps.
Set an alarm
Module 3561
- Enter Alarm Mode.
- Press D until the alarm number you want appears. Module 3561 supports five different alarms.
- Hold A for at least one second. When the hour flashes, use B or D to adjust it.
- Continue through the flashing fields, then press A to finish.
On this module, an alarm beeps for 10 seconds and stops when you press any button. Check the matching manual for other modules, since alarm counts, snooze behavior, and setup sequences can differ. In 12-hour mode, confirm AM or PM; Casio’s Module 3287 guide specifically cautions users to set the alarm’s morning or afternoon correctly.

Why another module’s alarm steps may not match
Module 2218, for example, lets you choose whether its daily alarm applies to Home Time or the currently selected World Time zone. Its hourly signal follows that selection, and its setup edits the time zone as well as the alarm’s hour and minutes. Do not apply the Module 3561 sequence to a different watch without checking its guide.

Understand the DST difference
Daylight-saving or summer-time behavior is module-specific; do not assume the watch adjusts automatically or that one setting applies to every city. Module 3287 changes the DST setting for the displayed city code, and changing it for the Home City while in World Time also changes it in Timekeeping Mode. Module 3547 applies the setting to the selected city only; its UTC selection does not allow DST to be changed or checked. Older Module 2218 applies one World Time DST setting to all World Time cities, separately from its Timekeeping Mode setting. Use the guide for your module and check the selected city’s current DST status.

If the displayed time is wrong
- World Time looks wrong: Check that the Home City or time-zone offset is correct before changing city settings. A wrong Home City can make World Time incorrect on linked modules.
- The alarm sounds at the wrong part of the day: In 12-hour mode, check AM/PM as well as the entered hour.
- A button sequence does not match: Stop and check the module number and matching guide. Hold durations and controls differ between modules.
- One city is off by an hour: Check its own DST or summer-time setting. Modules differ on whether this setting affects one city or all World Time cities.
